Back to the villa.
Henry was still as absent as ever.
I lay on the bed, ready to take a nap.
I was too tired. Since I got cancer, I had become very lazy. Except for some things that I had to go out to handle, I basically stayed at home.
The farce with Henry at the restaurant today had exhausted all my energy.
The pain in my bones came, gradually spreading to my whole body.
I trembled all over with pain, curling up tightly.
In a daze, I called out Henry's name.
"Henry... don't leave me... Henry..."
In a trance, it seemed like I was back in college.
At that time, I was still the daughter of the Martinez family.
College was just another place for me to have fun.
But I gradually noticed that in the first row of every class, there always sitted a serious boy. Every time the school awarded the first prize scholarship, it was always taken by the same name.
It was Henry.
I didn't know when I started following him.
"Henry, I heard you are working part-time as a tutor outside, only two hundred dollars per class. Why don't you be my tutor, you can name your price."
But he always coldly told me to go away.
He was very busy, coming out of a student's house, he had to go to the restaurant to wait tables.
Once, I followed him and waited at the restaurant until closing time, but he didn't look at me once.
Just as I was about to leave, a group of drunk punks came over to cause trouble.
That was the first time he spoke to me voluntarily.
"Amelia, run!"
Of course, I didn't leave. Henry got beaten up protecting me, his head covered in blood. I called the police and then punched each of those punks from behind.
In the hospital, I said to Henry, whose head was wrapped in bandages.
"I saved you, you have to repay me well."
Henry's voice was muffled, "I've given you my life, what more do you want."
I said defiantly, "I want you."
Henry grinned painfully, "Okay."
Because of this incident, Henry didn't get the scholarship that year.
I secretly used my money to subsidize Henry, but he refused.
Everyone said Henry had hooked up with a rich girl, I was so angry that I wanted to cause trouble for them, but he stopped me.
Later, my family's company went bankrupt, and my dad took the remaining assets and fled abroad, leaving me with a phone number that couldn't be reached.
I cried and asked Henry, "Are you going to abandon me too?"
He pulled out a diamond ring from his pocket with a stern face and told me he never would.
That was his first major earnings.
In the dream, he was still so gentle, holding me and coaxing me softly.
I felt warm all over, and the deep-seated pain seemed to gradually disappear.
When I woke up again, it was already evening.
There was a glass of cold water on the bedside table, I didn't know who had brought it.
I turned on my phone, and there was new content on the trending searches.
Photos of Henry holding Aria were clearly posted.
[Isn't it just a burn? Does he have to hold her like that?]
[He's so good and loves her so much.]
[I heard the burn was caused by Mrs. Phillips , someone saw it at the restaurant.]
[So vicious! No wonder Mr. Phillips fell for someone else.]
I laughed at myself and silently turned off my phone.
I hadn't packed the things I needed for the hospital tomorrow, I couldn't waste my time on this.
In the Phillips Villa, I didn't have many personal belongings.
After getting married, Henry only gave me money, and I spent it all on my treatment.
I opened the drawer, and there was an old ring box.
Inside was the ring Henry gave me.
We were really poor back then, couldn't even afford a one-carat diamond.
Unlike now, the diamond ring he gave Aria cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
I packed the ring and some daily necessities.
My phone dinged, it was a message from Brian.
[Your bed is ready, if you're prepared, you can come to the hospital tonight.]
I replied: [Okay.]
There was nothing in the Phillips Villa that I was attached to, Henry was probably at the hospital with Aria now.
I smiled faintly.
I left home with my pitifully few belongings.
In the inpatient department.
When I arrived, Brian had already finished his shift.
The nurse on duty took me to the ward, there were three beds in total, two of which were already occupied, and the patients were getting ready to rest.
The nurse took me to the empty bed by the window and whispered, "Tomorrow morning, go to the nurse's station for a blood draw on an empty stomach, then go to the first floor for a check-up. If your indicators are normal, your surgery can be scheduled for the day after tomorrow."
Seeing that I was alone, she frowned. "The surgery requires a family member's signature, and you will need one to accompany you after the surgery. When will they come?"
I was stunned for a moment and asked in a low voice, "Can I sign it myself?"
"No, who will be responsible if something goes wrong? Quickly call your family to come and sign tomorrow." The nurse left after speaking.
I packed the things I brought and took my phone to the corridor.
The beds in the oncology department were very tight, and there were even patients' family members with fold-out beds in the corridor.
Looking at them, I felt a bit hesitant.
Henry didn't know about my cancer, I didn't want to tell him, but he was the only one who could sign.
He was so worried about Aria's burn. If he knew I had cancer, what would he do?
Thinking of this, I felt a faint, ridiculous expectation.
Finding a quiet corner, I still dialed Henry's number.
The waiting tone rang for a long time before the call was answered.
Henry's deep, magnetic voice came from the other end, "Who is this?"
