Chapter 22 The Clingy Oliver

Elara said happily, "Ms. Martinez, you're so kind. At first, I was worried you wouldn't want to take him in."

I smiled without saying anything and gently petted Oliver's head. He wasn't afraid of strangers at all. After getting to know me for just over an hour, he was already rubbing against my hand affectionately.

I touched his belly, which felt a bit empty, and asked Elara, "Is he hungry?"

Elara patted her head. "Oh right, he hasn't eaten yet. He probably hasn't had anything to eat since he was abandoned. He must be hungry now. Ms. Martinez, wait a moment. I'll go buy some cat food."

Elara hurried off, and I shook my head with a helpless smile.

After playing with Oliver for a while, I started revising my design draft. Oliver seemed to know I was busy and obediently curled up on my lap without making a sound.

Elara soon returned with cat food, cat litter, canned cat food, and a cat teaser.

I got up and poured some cat food for him, mixed in some goat milk to soften it, making it easier for him to eat.

This was my first time raising a cat, and although I had no experience, I had watched many cat care videos before.

I had always wanted to have a kitten. Henry promised me that we would get one after we got married, so it could keep me company when he wasn't home.

But after we got married, Henry forgot his promise. In fact, he forgot every promise he ever made.

Oliver ate heartily, licking the bowl clean. After eating, he jumped onto the bed and slept beside me. I petted him, and he made a satisfied sound before quickly falling asleep.

I opened my laptop to continue working. Oliver's presence brought a touch of vitality and warmth to my life.

With work and Oliver filling my days, I didn't have time to think about Henry.

In the afternoon, I finished revising the design draft and sent it to Quinn, but she didn't reply.

I thought about taking a nap, but just as I turned off my phone, it rang. Seeing it was Henry calling, I didn't want to answer at first, but thinking it might be work-related, I picked up.

I said first, "I've sent the design draft to the Sullivan Group. I'll make revisions based on their feedback. I promised you I'd finish it within a month, and I won't break my word."

There was a moment of silence on the other end before Henry's angry voice came through, "I'm not calling about the design draft."

I frowned. What else could it be about besides the design draft? Could it be about Aria?

Henry continued furiously, "Amelia, are you so eager to flaunt your status as my wife and embarrass Aria? Now everyone in the company knows that we're married. How do you think they see Aria? Why do you despise her so much, making her bear the label of a homewrecker? Aria is so scared she doesn't even dare to go to the office. Are you satisfied now?"

Henry's voice was filled with accusations, as if he wanted to vent all his anger on me, leaving me no chance to respond.

Clutching the phone, I retorted mercilessly, "Did I make you cheat? How can you have the guts to do it but not admit it? Aria knew you were married and still chose to be with you. Isn't she asking to be called a homewrecker? Am I supposed to be kind to someone who stole my husband and wrecked my family? You two are truly disgusting."

Henry seemed stunned by my words, and after a moment, he angrily said, "Amelia, don't go too far! Don't think I won't do anything to you!"
