Chapter 10 Negotiating Terms

I chuckled lightly, with a hint of sarcasm in my tone, "Yeah, so I have to cherish it even more. After all, men like you who are willing to spend money on their lovers but not on their wives' medical treatment are rare."

Henry paused for a second and asked, "Medical treatment? Are you sick?"

I didn't plan to explain to him; he never believed me before.

I hadn't thought of what to say when I heard Henry sneer, "Amelia, what kind of illness could you have? Aria is in a bad mood because of you. If you hadn't humiliated her, I wouldn't have taken her out to relax and missed the contract. So, you are responsible for this."

I was so angry at his words that I laughed. He thought that since I had always helped him solve problems in the past, this time would be no exception.

I said mockingly, "Henry, how come I never realized you were so shameless before? Blaming your failures on a woman, are you even a man? Are you calling to ask for my help? If you kneel in front of me and beg, maybe I'll be kind enough to help you one more time."

I no longer expected Henry to transfer money to me. My online store was now somewhat successful.

In the past few days, I had received several orders, not very expensive, but I had earned ten thousand dollars.

This was much better than the days when I had to ask Henry for money.

Without his charity, I felt much more confident and could scold him without any reservations.

He seemed to have never expected such words from me and was stunned for a moment, unable to retort.

I didn't want to waste my breath on him and was about to hang up when I heard his sarcastic remark, "Amelia, showing your true colors, huh? Didn't get money from me, so you're furious. Ryan even told me you were not well. I think you're just pretending. How can someone who's not well be so sharp-tongued?"

I replied, "I am really sick."

Maybe I still held a tiny bit of hope in my heart, hoping Henry would notice something was wrong and realize my illness.

Henry sounded like he heard a joke, "The same excuse over and over again just makes people annoyed. Amelia, can you come up with a new excuse? Always either dying or sick. If you're gonna die, just die out of my house."

His tone was extremely harsh, as if he really wished for my death.

I asked impulsively, "Would you really be happy if I died?"

Henry laughed loudly, "Of course, I'd want to celebrate it with the whole world."

"Sorry to disappoint you, but I will live well." I then hung up directly.

Henry used to be so attentive; he could sense something was wrong just from my tone. He could immediately tell if I was being sarcastic or serious. Even over the phone, he could hear the anger in my voice.

But now, no matter what I said, he didn't believe me or notice my emotions.

Henry was persistent, calling again and again.

I was so annoyed by the ringing that if I weren't afraid of missing messages from my online store, I would have put my phone on silent long ago.

I picked up the phone and yelled, "Henry, are you done? Can't you live without me?"

I didn't know what he cursed. I didn't hear it clearly anyway.

Henry finally spoke in a calm tone, showing a bit of willingness to talk properly, "Don't you want money? If you can close the deal, I can give you all the commission from this project."
