CHAPTER 30: CALL OF THE CUBS

CHAPTER 30: CALL OF THE CUBS
Maya’s POV

“Zay-Zay.”

“Zay-Zay.”

“Zay-Zay.”

The triplets were at it again—giggling and crawling at full speed, their tiny paws slapping the stone floor like a coordinated army of chaos.

I nearly died from second-hand embarrassment when one pup latched onto Zane’s pant leg… and then another. The third, not to be outdone, launched into the middle and clung to both legs like a baby gorilla.

Then—whoosh—the sound of dignity slipping away.

Zane’s expensive slacks hit the floor in a tragic heap.

Carl collapsed into laughter.

I nearly melted into the tiles and evaporated.

I sharply turned around and warm arms engulfed me in their chest, laughs erupting while I dug my face in the lycan king’s chest.

“Sebastian,” Zane growled out, deep and dangerous, clearly knowing who taught the pups ninja techniques to trouble the Beta.

“What? You got any problems with my kids?” he dared the Beta to speak.

“No. I have no problem with your kids but I have many with you,” Zane snapped. “I am going to take my reven – AH, OWW!” he howled. The sound was pure pain.

I dared to I peeked over my shoulder and instantly regretted it. My embarrassment doubled over and I shuddered at what Zane must be feeling.
The triplets, adorable white puffballs of destruction, were now biting him as if they could not hear a word against the man on whom they had imprinted. Their teeth had caught whatever skin was nearest to them and poor Zane’s tender thighs bore the brunt the most.

Each had chosen a target: thigh, calf, and one daring enough for his rear. Ouch, it hurt to even look.

Zane was being eaten alive by toddlers with teeth and there was nothing that I could do. I winced while Sebastian’s chest vibrated deeper as he howled with laughter.

One would think that the royals who behaved classy and composed in public would be at least decent in private but those myths were quickly shattered when I spent time with this best-friend duo.

These two were chaotic in public and in private. And now my pups had joined their mischief league, complete with personalized tricks learned from their very proud ‘imprinted father’. These boys were going to be the death of me.

“I am so proud of them! They have taken after their father. I am going to teach them more,” Sebastian excitedly said while I went still.

Father?

“They’re so perfect,” Sebastian continued and grinned, absolutely unrepentant. “Look at them. Ruthless. Tactical. They’re mine.”

His?

He didn’t flinch even once while claiming my pups.

I chanced peering up at him and found him enjoying the triplet’s mischief with utmost fondness and pride before his gaze found mine, piercing and soft, like the world faded and I was the only thing left. Through my eyelashes, I found those deep blue, enigmatic ocean eyes capture me in their depths and let sparks of love set off between us.

He caught my chin in his fingers and kissed me.

My jaw dropped.

Huh?

Sebastian chuckled after stealing one more kiss and said, “You were asking for it.”

Huh?

“Your eyes,” he murmured, brushing his lips to my ear. My knees nearly gave out. “They said it all,” he whispered and hugged me closer to himself. The beast was at least a foot taller than me.

“Sebastian! I will kill you,” Zane growled. “Call off your piranhas in fur coats! My soldiers don’t fear me anymore when I fall for their tricks. I’m losing credibility out here!”

“You slipped on the banana peel by yourself,” Sebastian deadpanned. “Don’t blame it on them.”

“Yeah? And when they peed on my Lycan’s paws while I addressed the royal guards?” Zane hissed.

“They are innocent, little kids. Lay off them,” Sebastian said.

“They crap on your command. Don’t you dare twist the truth.”

“They are heaven-sent angels. Aren’t you. Yes, yes, you,” Sebastian said, making baby noises. I looked at the dangerous beast in awe. The very man who could rip anyone’s heart with bare hands was capable of making such noises for someone else’s kids? “Look at those innocent eyes. They just love Uncle Zane, don’t they?” He cooed and the babies giggled as if they understood the lycan king.

“Yes, yes. They love Uncle Zane. Love eating him like canned food,” the beta showed the bite marks with a glare. “You and your spawn better watch out!” he growled.

“Babies, Uncle Zane is threatening daddy. What do you do to Uncle Zane?”

Soon enough shrieks and screams ensued with bursts of giggling.

“SEBASTIAANNNN!”

I slapped the proud king’s chest while he laughed heartily. He wrapped his arms around me and whispered, “The kids are with Zane. What about to round two?”

That earned him another chest slap—harder— and shyly fled to get the triplets before Beta Zane was drowned in the tornado named ‘Triplet Thunderstorm’ and needed stitches.

I blinked. Multiple times.

I couldn’t believe what I saw.

My dream had come true!

The one where I dreamt of a blue lycan on top of a huge rock and the supernatural kingdom bowing down at him, while he picked up three white alpha cubs who had imprinted on him and proudly showed them off to the world with his arms outstretched, amidst chants of ‘Long Live The King! Long Live The King! Long Live The King!’

The sky broke into golden hues as dawn bathed the kingdom in light. The Sun God seemed to be blessing the Golden Lycan Pack himself.

The crowd below the ceremonial cliffs waited, breathless and unmoving — as if time itself bowed to this moment.

A silence hung over the supernatural realm — wolves, witches, shifters, fae, and even ancient seers stood still. Thousands of eyes turned upward to the stone ledge where destiny had once whispered to me in a dream.

That vision… was no longer just mine.

It had arrived.

High above them all, on the sacred Rise of Lycanthrope Mountain—the rock that once bore witness to the crowning of kings—stood Sebastian.

No… not just Sebastian.

My mate. My King. My blue Lycan.

Clad in deep sapphire ceremonial armor etched with ancient stones that pulsed faintly with moon-blessed power, he stood like the very embodiment of a warrior god.

The light hit him just so, and for a breathless moment, the shimmer of his coat beneath the furred cape glinted with the celestial hue only Lycans born of divine right possessed.

But it was not just his stance, or the way the wind bowed around him.

It was what he held.

Three snow-white pups cradled in his powerful arms.

Our children.

Their fur gleamed like fresh-fallen snow under moonlight. All three—identical and yet entirely distinct—radiated the energy of high-ranking alphas, their little muzzles lifted toward the wind as if already sensing the call of their people.

One roared with a tiny snarl. Almost matching the Kycan King’s regality. Another licked Sebastian’s jaw with fierce loyalty. The third nuzzled closer into the crook of his shoulder, imprinting itself further with the man it would one day call protector, father and pride.

Sebastian lifted them higher — arms outstretched in open declaration. The tiny trio roared like ferocious cubs.

“These are mine,” the Lycan King’s deep voice echoed through the valley, a low growl of reverence and triumph. “Ours. The legacy of your Queen. QUEEN MAYA THUNDERSTORM!”

Gasps turned into cheers. Cheers into roars.

“LONG LIVE THE KING!”

“LONG LIVE THE KING!”

“LONG LIVE THE KING!”

The roars got louder and seemed to echo throughout the Supernatural Kingdom. Then:

“LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!”

“LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!”

“LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!”

The chant thundered through the cliffs, the vibration rumbling beneath the earth like the heartbeat of the realm itself. Trees seemed to sway in answer. Wolves howled in synchrony from all corners of the kingdom — nobles, rogues, and once-divided factions unified under the howl of celebration.

I watched from the inner platform, cloaked in golden and white, Sebastian’s royal mark and gifted jewels glowing faintly across my bodice — a healer’s insignia fused with the Queen’s crest.

Tears stung my eyes, not from sorrow, but from the staggering weight of the moment. The dream I once held in trembling silence was now being shouted from mountaintops, and the world did not just witness it.

It believed in it.

As Sebastian turned his head slightly, his piercing gaze found mine through the crowds and the misty dawn. The proud, fierce King melted—for a heartbeat—into the man who once nearly died in a waterfall and fell in love with a ghostly girl who disappeared into the trees.

And now stood beside him as Queen.

"We were always meant to rule this way," his voice brushed across my mind through the bond, full of aching wonder. "Together. With the children you gave me. With the kingdom you healed."

I pressed a hand to my chest, heart thundering in time with the chants, and whispered back into his mind through the newly formed mate link,

“The vision was never mine alone. The Moon Goddess wrote it in your soul too.”

And just like that… the prophecy was fulfilled. The blue Lycan held the future high above the world. Not as a warning.

But as a promise.

And the kingdom didn’t question.

It knelt.

However, peace was yet to descend. Fate, as always, had another twist.

“I AM THE TRUE QUEEN! NO ONE TAKES MY MAN AND MY THRONE!”

The cheering stopped like a switch flipped.

A hush spread like fire.

Smiles fell. Roars turned into whispered hushes. Celebrations turned into silent mockery. Sebastian’s body stiffened.

“Selene?” He whispered, stunned, voice cracking and eyes going soft.
