Chapter 291 Moss's Arrival
Chapter 291 Moss's Arrival
Ivy hadn't had a moment's peace sitting in Cooper Mansion. Angela stood in front of her, stamping her feet in frustration as she said loudly, "Ivy, what are we going to do? I never imagined the Cooper family would end up selling counterfeit medicine—this is absolutely despicable! That clinic has been run by the Cooper family for years. They've never pulled something like this before. Now that they've done it, if the authorities find out, what are we going to do? Thank God I went to the clinic on patrol today and discovered she was selling fake drugs."
Ivy rubbed her temples and let out a helpless sigh. She suddenly felt like no one in the Cooper family could stay out of trouble—they all knew how to cause her problems.
Seeing Ivy's expression, Angela didn't dare say more. She softened her tone and said, "Forget it, Ivy. How about we just cut ties with that clinic? If this really blows up, we can just throw them under the bus and say the clinic has nothing to do with the Cooper family."
Ivy sighed helplessly. "How could we possibly do that? That clinic has been operated by the Cooper family for over twenty years—it has an established reputation. A lot of patients go there. Some of them only know me because they went to the clinic. If we suddenly cut ties, it's still going to damage the Cooper family's reputation."
Hearing Ivy's words, Angela sighed again. "Then what should we do? How are we supposed to handle this?"
Ivy thought for a moment, then suddenly looked up and waved Angela over.
Angela immediately leaned in. Ivy bent close to her ear and whispered a few words. Angela's face lit up with surprise, and she turned and left immediately.
Ivy rubbed her temples again. She didn't know why she'd been so exhausted lately. Even though the hospital had suspended operations, there was still an endless stream of problems to deal with.
More importantly, they were at a critical juncture right now, and she had no idea how things were going on Moss's end.
Speak of the devil—suddenly her phone rang. It was Philip calling.
"I'm outside Cooper Mansion. Get down here right away. I need to talk to you."
Philip rarely showed up like this on his own initiative. When he did, it usually meant he really had something important to tell her.
Ivy quickly threw on her clothes. She'd been planning to rest for a bit, but now there was something more important. She hurried out the Cooper family gate and immediately slipped into the black sedan with the license plate of four ones.
As soon as she got in the car, Derek said excitedly from the driver's seat, "Ms. Cooper, Moss finally took the bait! He agreed to our assignment and also agreed to come and kill you."
Philip shot Derek a glare and said coldly, "Moss is probably already in New York. He should be coming to carry out the mission in the next few days. Ivy, you need to be careful. I've already stationed mercenaries around you. There are plenty of people watching around the villa too. Right now, your every move—"
Philip was about to say more when Ivy immediately cut him off. "No need, Philip. If you do that, it'll only make Moss suspicious and tip him off."
Philip panicked immediately. "But if we don't do that, how can we guarantee your safety?"
Ivy sighed. "Relax, Philip. I'm an S-level assassin, after all. Even if Moss himself shows up, I'm not worried."
"I'm afraid Moss won't come alone. What if he brings other S-level assassins? You'll only have yourself on this side. If I pull the mercenaries, won't that leave you fighting alone? No way!"
Philip said firmly. Ivy sighed helplessly. "It's not as dangerous as you think. This person is coming for me anyway, so knowing Moss's personality, he'll definitely observe the area around me before making his move. But if you station so many people around me, it'll definitely make him suspicious. After all, in his eyes, I'm just an ordinary noble family leader. No matter how capable I am, there's no way I'd have that many mercenaries guarding me."
Seeing that Philip showed no sign of relenting, Ivy felt a headache coming on. After a long pause, she finally compromised. "In that case, just leave two or three mercenaries around me. Make it look good, just don't overdo it."
Philip wanted to continue holding firm, but seeing Ivy's expression darken, he didn't want to argue with her any further on this matter.
Finally, he sighed. "Fine. Then I'll assign Derek and the head of the mercenaries to you. They're both top-tier mercenaries by background. They may not match you S-level assassins, but they can definitely be useful at critical moments."
Hearing Philip call his name, Derek immediately responded loudly, "Don't worry, Ms. Cooper! I'll follow all your arrangements and guarantee your safety."
Ivy nodded. "Since Moss has already started making his move, from now on we don't need to meet again."
With Ivy's words, Philip became even more worried. His expression turned extremely grim, but there was nothing he could do. He could only keep instructing Derek, telling him to make sure to watch over Ivy's safety.
Finally, the car pulled up to a secluded spot. Ivy quickly got out, and not long after, Derek concealed himself near Ivy.
Ivy wandered aimlessly through the streets of New York. She needed to make her movements completely normal again—that way, the Moss hiding in the shadows wouldn't become suspicious.
At that moment, someone hidden deep in an alley was watching Ivy with a cold gaze.
Beside him, an assassin lightly landed on the ground and said coldly, "Boss Moss, I keep feeling this college student seems strange—gives me an unusual vibe. Could this be a trap?"
Moss watched as Ivy strolled down the street eating a pastry. "There's nothing strange about it. After all, she's the head of a noble family. It's perfectly normal for her to have one or two bodyguards around."
"I just really can't figure out how an ordinary college student ended up with Anso's treasure in her hands."
The subordinate beside him asked in confusion, "Could our investigation be wrong? Maybe she doesn't have Anso's treasure at all?"
Moss straightened up, but his gaze never left Ivy. He said quietly, "That makes even less sense. An ordinary college student—sure, she's the head of a noble family, but compared to the Green family in New York, it's night and day. Why would the Green family go to such lengths and pay such a high price to have me kill this person?"
This remark made the subordinate pause for a moment before saying, "You've got a point. But is this college student really that important—holding Anso's treasure? Looking at her clothes and the way she lives, it really doesn't seem like it!"
