Chapter 292: Madeline Launches an Attack

Moss narrowed his eyes, studying Ivy in the distance. After a long moment, he finally spoke to his subordinate behind him. "Follow her a bit longer. If we're sure there's no problem, we move tonight."

His subordinate nodded. "Yes, boss. Everything's ready on my end. Though honestly, she's just some ordinary college student. Once you make your move, taking her out would be a piece of cake."

After a brief pause, the subordinate continued, "But boss, if we kill her, we won't know where Anso's treasure is. Should we maybe..."

Moss let out a cold laugh. "When I said 'make our move,' I never said anything about killing her. Even if we do, it won't be until after we get our hands on Anso's treasure."

His subordinate's face lit up with understanding. "Boss, you're brilliant! This way, we can collect the commission from the Green family 'and' get Anso's treasure. That treasure's supposed to have some seriously valuable stuff. Any single item could be worth tens of millions."

That was exactly the issue.

Moss picked up his pace, slowly closing the distance with Ivy. Deep in thought, he murmured, "Such a massive treasure—we've invested so much manpower and resources, searched for so long. How does it end up in the hands of some ordinary college student? Don't you find that suspicious?"

His subordinate immediately grasped Moss's meaning.

Moss sighed. "Whatever. We've already come this far. Whether it's the person or the treasure, we're taking both. Otherwise, this whole operation would be a complete waste."

With that, Moss quickened his pace to close the gap. Meanwhile, Ivy walked ahead, her gaze subtly lifting, the encrypted communicator Philip had given her nestled in her ear.

"Ivy, be careful. Moss has appeared, and he's not alone. He brought a subordinate. They're less than a hundred meters behind you, to your right."

Ivy pretended to window-shop, murmuring softly, "Looks like they're getting suspicious. They're probably still observing me right now. In that case, perfect—let them get a good, long look."

Just as she finished speaking and was about to enter a luxury boutique, someone suddenly stepped in front of her, blocking her path.

The person was taller than Ivy, looking down at her with an imperious attitude. "Ivy, I've been looking for you for quite a while. Finally found you."

Ivy frowned, tilting her head slightly upward to meet the person's gaze. After two seconds, she cocked her head to the side. "Who are you?"

That single question made the person stamp her foot in fury. "Ivy, quit playing dumb! You got First General Hospital to file a complaint against me, and now I'm suspended!"

Suspended?

Ivy furrowed her brow, thinking hard. She'd been dealing with so much lately that she couldn't keep track of everyone. After carefully searching her memory, something finally clicked. She snapped her fingers. "Oh. You're that medical inspection department captain who came to First General Hospital to cause trouble, right?"

Having taken this long to be recognized made Madeline's expression turn even uglier. In the past, everyone who saw her would bow and scrape—yet Ivy had needed half a minute just to remember who she was.

Madeline tilted her head back haughtily. "Ha. Looks like you've got a terrible memory."

Ivy gave a cold laugh. "When it comes to useless people, I don't bother keeping them in my head."

Madeline's expression darkened further. "I'm not here to trade barbs with you today. Ivy, I'm here to tell you—get First General Hospital's director to withdraw that complaint and reinstate me. Otherwise..."

At this point, Madeline's lips curled into a confident smirk. "Otherwise, I won't let the Cooper family's little secrets slide."

Ivy tilted her head, laughing coldly. "What secrets does the Cooper family have that you could possibly use against us?"

Madeline continued, "I know all about the Cooper family's business. You opened a clinic that's been selling counterfeit drugs. That incident caused quite a stir. Before I got suspended, we'd already received complaints about it—I just had too much on my plate to deal with it at the time. But Ivy, if you don't..."

Madeline shot Ivy an arrogant look, speaking brazenly, "If you don't take some action, I'll report this matter to the director of the Medical Oversight Bureau. Sure, I'm suspended now, but I still have plenty of friends in the department."

Her laughter grew even more arrogant. "Ha ha ha ha! Ivy, you should know—if this gets out, if people find out the Cooper family's clinics and pharmacies have been selling fake drugs, what do you think the internet will say? I seem to recall you developed some eyedrops called 'Ocean Eye,' right?

And if I'm not mistaken, there's also some scar removal cream. Plus, you're currently the director of the cosmetic surgery department at First General Hospital. Won't all of that be affected?"

Madeline paused, feigning sympathy. "Oh my, I wonder if First General Hospital will just fire you outright and demand compensation. And Silver Bay Pharmaceuticals will probably take a major hit too. Ivy, if this gets out, you're going to have a really bad time."

A flash of viciousness crossed Ivy's eyes, but she suddenly remembered the people watching from behind. She put on a vulnerable act. "Madeline, we can talk about this. Please don't let this get out. It would really hurt me."

Ivy's voice was extremely soft. Hearing it, Madeline's arrogance soared even higher.

In the past, Ivy had always been so high and mighty around her. Now, finally catching Ivy in a mistake she could use as leverage, Madeline couldn't have been happier.

Madeline smiled. "Ivy, we can definitely talk about this—but it depends on how sincere you are."

Ivy quickly nodded. "Don't worry, the Cooper family has plenty of money. How much do you want? Name your price."

Madeline raised an eyebrow. "Oh, it's not just about money."

On the surface, Ivy appeared calm, even a bit frightened. Inside, however, her contempt and coldness knew no bounds.

Ha. This Madeline really thinks she can charge an arm and a leg. Who does she think she is?

If Moss wasn't watching from behind, Ivy would have already confronted her right here on the street—maybe even slapped her. She couldn't stand shameless people like this.

Despite her thoughts, Ivy forced herself to remain patient, speaking softly, "In that case, Madeline, what do you want?"

Madeline thought for a moment. "What I want is simple. I remember you opened a wellness spa under Twin Towers. I want all the shares of that spa. In other words, transfer ownership to me."
