Chapter 280 Temptation

Chapter 280 Temptation

But Wendy's father, Luke, didn't see it that way. "Are you sure that just attending this auction will make Philip like you?"

Wendy rose gracefully from the sofa, did a little turn, and said, "Father, look at me—I've got the body, the looks, the degree. I have everything! Why on earth would Philip reject someone like me? It's impossible! The only reason he hasn't noticed me before is that I haven't been right in front of him. Now that I have this opportunity, I have to seize it."

"Well..."

Luke still hesitated. Seeing her father waver, Wendy said anxiously, "Father, just let us auction off our family heirloom. It's absolutely a collector's item, a top-tier treasure. It'll make me shine at the auction and grab everyone's attention."

She paused, then continued, "Even if I don't catch Mr. Philip Green's eye, everyone at this auction is either rich or powerful—basically all from high society. If I make a stunning entrance, I might attract the attention of other elite families.

Either way, all those families are better off than ours. No matter how you look at it, it's all upside, no downside."

Luke was indeed swayed by his daughter's words, but their family heirloom had been passed down for several generations. He didn't want to let it go on his watch, so he still hesitated.

Wendy grew frantic and raised her voice, "Father!! No risk, no reward. We have to auction this thing off to gain more benefits. Otherwise, the Mason family won't get anything.

The heirloom is just a dead object. Look at how badly our family business has been doing lately—don't you want to change that?"

Luke seemed stung by that remark. He sighed and finally said firmly, "Fine, fine, I get it. Take the heirloom and auction it off. But I have to tell you, Wendy, that heirloom is worth at least tens of millions."

"It's the most valuable thing the Mason family owns. If I give it to you and you still can't bring any benefits to the Mason family, then we won't acknowledge you as our daughter anymore."

Wendy froze for a moment, surprised her father would say something so harsh.

She reined in her emotions and thought to herself: if she didn't get the heirloom, she'd have no way to get close to Mr. Green. This was her only shot, so no matter what, she had to try.

Wendy answered decisively, "Don't worry, Father. I'll use this opportunity to bring the Mason family maximum benefits. Even if I don't get Mr. Green's attention, I'll definitely bring other gains to the family!!"

With those words, Luke seemed to relax a bit. "All right, since you put it that way, I'll give you one last chance."

He waved his hand and had the butler bring over the heirloom.

When Wendy saw the heirloom in its exquisite box, her eyes lit up. She said excitedly, "Father, just wait for my good news!"

Time flew by, and three days later, Ivy arrived at the Green family home as agreed. Philip had already prepared a private vehicle, and Ivy wore a globally limited-edition outfit, as usual.

Whenever she attended important events like this, she always chose something she'd never worn before.

On the way to the auction venue, Philip said quietly, "We're worried Moss might make a move on you once he finds out, so I've stationed some of my people around the auction house. Not too many, though."

Those words meant nothing to Ivy. She smiled and said, "Philip, you're underestimating me. Forget one Moss—even ten of them wouldn't be a problem. Hell, even if the entire Syndicate stood in front of me, I wouldn't be afraid."

She actually knew Moss pretty well. He was naturally timid and cautious, extremely careful in everything he did.

To outsiders, Moss seemed very sharp—he knew how to win people over and how to manage an organization. But in terms of actual assassin skills, he'd rank as an A-level killer at best. In the eyes of an S-level assassin like Ivy, killing him would be as simple as slaughtering a chicken or a sheep.

Derek asked, confused, "Wait, what? I always thought Moss was an S-level assassin. I can't believe he's just an A-level. So how did he become the head of Syndicate?"

Ivy pressed her lips together and said, "Syndicate's previous leader was Moss's uncle, Jacob. They were one of the rare blood-related pairs in the assassin world. But Moss would do anything for power. He was adopted by Jacob—without him, Moss would've starved to death on the street. You'd think he'd show some filial piety, but instead, while Jacob was recovering from injuries after a mission, Moss poisoned him with a fast-acting toxin."

"That's how Moss took over as Syndicate's leader. Say what you will, but he's actually been a pretty decent boss. Under his leadership, Syndicate expanded rapidly and became a top-tier assassin organization. He even cultivated S-level assassins like me."

"But what he didn't expect was that I'm not just good at killing—I've got brains too, just like him. Many of his people started siding with me, even taking orders from me, because of my skills and intelligence. That gave Moss a serious crisis of confidence, which is why he's looking for an opportunity to get rid of me."

Thinking about it, Ivy felt a wave of irony. As Blood Dove, even though she'd built up considerable influence, she'd never thought about betraying Syndicate or going after Moss. She'd completed every mission he'd assigned her perfectly.

But no matter what she did, Moss still suspected her. Well, if that's how it was, she wouldn't hold back this time.

The vehicle had stopped at the entrance to the auction venue. Ivy turned her head and looked through the car window at the scene outside.

Her hand hidden beneath her dress clenched slightly—not from fear, but from an unusual excitement. The thrill of reuniting with old acquaintances.

Inside the auction house.

Philip was immediately surrounded by quite a few people. After all, he rarely attended these events. For a moment, he couldn't break away, so Ivy quickly slipped to the side to quietly observe her surroundings.

She could hear the conversation from Philip's direction drifting to her ears.
