Chapter 53
Rebecca's POV.
I woke to Josie and Elizabeth hopping on my bed. I don't know how long I slept for, but I felt better than I had before. Amazing what a little sleep could do. I was so happy to see my friends I started laughing. It has only been a few days since they were doing this same exact thing, only to me, it felt like a lifetime ago.
" Okay already. I am awake. It's kinda nice waking up to you two. I've been missing this. What time is it anyway?" I hope I didn't sleep through the night.
" It's only four. Your dad should be back soon with Jared. Then if we can get them to hurry and get all that meat cooked. Did you invite the whole pack? There's almost the same amount of food as the bonfire had." Elizabeth started laughing at me.
" Hmm let think about that. There's thirteen of us. If everyone shows up." Yeah, that's right, I think.
" So, I want to know more about this mystery daughter of yours. And when do I get to meet her?" Well at least this was the easiest part to tell her.
I filled Liz and Josie in on all the details about Stephanie. I'm hoping Grant has some good news when he gets here. I don't know what to do if we don't figure out something. I've been trying to keep my mind occupied, but I'm starting to run out of things to keep me from thinking of my poor girl lying there.
" Wow, that's a lot to deal with. I'm here if you need anything though. I can ask my mate to guard her if you need more guards. I'm sure he would be more than happy to help." I hope she still feels the same after hearing the rest of what she's missed.
" Let's go see if we can help in the kitchen. I need to snack. Maybe Dad's back by now." We went downstairs to find almost everyone laughing and joking around.
I realized I needed to call Grant to get him and Meriwether over here. I asked my mom if we should get Josie's parents over too. She agreed with me and called them. We were getting down to the wire on this. We needed to get as many people in on this as possible, but who could we trust?
After another hour had passed, everyone was here, and the food was on the grill. I hadn't seen Jack yet, but I knew he was hiding until everyone was up to date. Now to let the explosive information out into the open. This wasn't going to be easy.
" Alex, how do you want to start this?" I looked at her with dread in my eyes.
" I think maybe with some back story. But it's your secret to tell. Maybe they will believe more if they understand the who and the why." She had the right idea, I think.
" I think with all of us as family and friends, we can let go of formalities tonight. Laura, Paul, I have a secret I've been keeping to myself until just recently." They looked at me with confusion. " I'm the heir to the Moon Goddess. I know it's hard to believe, but everyone here can prove what I say." The easy part was over.
" That's incredible news, I'm so happy for you. I always knew you were special. I guess I just didn't realize how much. I guess that's why we're here, to celebrate?" Sorry Laura, I'll celebrate as soon as they come to terms with the truth.
" I'm afraid there's a whole lot we all need to discuss before we can celebrate anything. See, I have discovered some painful truths from the past. These truths are threatening this packs future." At least I had their attention.
" What kind of threat Becca?" I think Paul might need convincing.
"There's to be a big attack on the pack. It's meant to kill us all. The problem is, in order to explain everything, you need to be open minded. I have proof to all of it, if you just hear me out." With Alex here, maybe they would listen.
I wasn't sure where to begin, so I started with the fire. They never said a word as I laid out all the details to the point where I went to see Jack. Liz was trying not to cry at the thought that Darius was responsible for everything. How could I break her heart like this? I knew it was because she needed to hear the truth though.
"Now I know this all seems far-fetched, but like I said I have proof if you need it. Alex, I think it's time for your part." She nodded in agreement as tears ran down her face.
She held Liz's hands as though to keep her from running away. It took her a minute to calm down before finally telling her daughter the truth of her real mother.
" No, this can't be. You're lying to me. I don't know why you would say something like this." Liz looked like she was about to have a mental breakdown.
" Liz, I'm your best friend, you know I have never lied to you, ever. Your mom is telling the truth. She just found out herself. I know you love them, and I know all of this is hardest on you. I wish I could change it or to even be able to take your pain away. None of this changes anything though, Alex is still your mom. She raised you this whole time thinking you were her daughter. Darius has lied to everyone. I'm so sorry." I cried with my friend until she started to calm down.
" You're right Becca, she will always be my mom, because she is my mom. Mom, I will always love you, no matter what. You can't expect me to believe my dad is some villain though. I mean, have you both gone insane? Has Jack gotten a witch to put a spell on you? Maybe he's brainwashed you. I don't know the reason, but I'm not falling for it." She really doesn't believe me.
" What if Celeste were to tell you all of this? Would you believe it then? You know I've never lied about anything, why would I start now? For crying out loud Liz, Darius is our Alpha. Do you think I want to believe all this? He helped raise me; I called him uncle! All these years, my mom and dad have been friends with him, they blamed Jack too. Look at them now. If they can accept the truth, then why can't you?" I started crying again.
I couldn't believe her. She really thought I would lie about something like this. She broke my heart. I could see Josie was upset by her words as well. Everyone was. It's not that I blamed her for not believing me, not really. She has loved Darius her whole life, he has been her dad after all. How could I make her see? Oh, Celeste how do I make her see?
That's when I saw the blue glow wash over the room like a wave caressing the shore. Maybe Elizabeth would trust in her.
" I have been listening in. I know it's rude, but I couldn't help it." She winked in my direction.
" Mother Moon, is it you?" Laura had a look of amazement.
"Yes child, it is. Now Elizabeth, I understand you're hurt by all of this. I can feel your anguish, your sorrow, and your confusion. I can't take it all away, but I can help you through it. Just open your heart to me. Open your mind and see the knowledge I have to share with you." She took Liz in her arms.
Celeste hummed a soft tune as she held my friend. It was calming and filled the room with love and understanding.
" I think we should all go outside, let them be alone for a while." Alex said through her tears.
As we walked out to the back yard, Josie grabbed my hand. Jared came up from behind and put his arms around me. Somehow, I could feel everyone's love. It was like being draped in a warm blanket. I was thankful for them all.
"Rebecca, what you were saying, it does seem a bit far-fetched. I trust you though. Laura and I both do. I only have two questions to ask. First off, how can we help? And second, where's Jack?" At least they were easy to convince.
