Chapter 20 A Deal With His Enemy
The next day Kate didn’t have class so she decided to sleep in but then woke up when she remembered an important thing she had to do – Call Placebo. She wasn’t sure what Quisito’s intentions were but she couldn’t risk throwing her life away to be treated like a whore to find that out.
She got up from bed and went through her morning routine. After engaging in a casual conversation with the maids, she found out that Quisito was not in the mansion. Kate did not know whether making a deal with Placebo was a wise thing to do, but she had do to it – For Chris, for herself.
She locked the door to her room and typed Placebo’s number which she had byhearted. She was about to click the ‘call’ option but stopped when she recalled his warning to only sent text. So, she messaged to that number.
Kate : Hello, this is Katelyn. I am ready to join your hand to go against Quisito.
She waited for about ten minutes and the reply came.
Placebo : I thought you were going to turn me down. Well, you did the right thing by contacting me.
Kate : So how can I help you?
Placebo : Where is his room?
Kate : Next to mine. Why?
Placebo : You’ll have to get inside it that’s why ( but not now ). Does he lock the room?
Kate : No.
Placebo : Perfect! Since he is not at your place now, you are safe to move around without being caught. I want you to wear a casual attire and meet me near at the road near the back yard wall ( You have to jump the wall ). Once you come there, we will discuss the rest. Okay?
Kate : You must be joking...right? There is no way I’ll be able to walk past all his men, they are all over the mansion!
Placebo : You don’t have to worry about that. In about.....20 minutes, I’ll create a chaos in front of the mansion. All of his men will go to attend that problem and that will be when you will get out. Got it?
Chaos? What kind of chaos?
She pondered about his plan for a minute before hesitantly typing the reply.
Kate : Okay...I’m in.
She immediately put the phone away and nosedived into her wardrobe to find a suitable attire. She matched a blue hoodie and a black jean with her hand. It looked extremely casual to be worn on a day with low temperature. She quickly changed into the selected dress and paced the room, waiting for the ‘Chaos’.
Almost 20 later she heard gunshots and massive explosions right outside the mansion. Kate suddenly became alert and tried to think of a safe place to hide from the incoming attack but her phone buzzed with a message.
Placebo : RUN!!!
Oh, the chaos!
She opened her door to find Quisito’s men running to the direction of attack where the servants of the mansion ran to take cover. It was a perfect distraction.
Without making herself prominent, she crept out of her room and slowly walked to the back end of the mansion. When she reached the short wall in the backyard, she carefully launched herself on top of it and without wasting another second, she jumped down on the pavement on the side of the road.
Freedom!
A smile of success brightened her face but it got frozen immediately because she felt a man wrapping an arm around her shoulder. Her fight-flight instincts kicked in but before she even moved a muscle the man spoke.
“Don’t worry its only me, Placebo”
She exhaled a sigh of relief and let him guide her to a corner behind a giant tree, where they were partially hidden from the passersby. When she turned to face him for the first time, she saw that he was wearing a mask to cover his identity. Only his eyes were visible.
“I can only stall Quisito for 10 minutes. So, you are going to listen to every word I say and ask questions at the end.” Kate shook her head in understanding as he rushed out the information.
“Like I have told you, Quisito’s men are experts in cargo shipments and their hold on market is so powerful that even the illegal organizations across the world are scared to raise a finger against them. Quisito is also the largest supplier of weapons that are very difficult to engineer”.
Kate understood what he said as she reminisced the ‘watch burning’ incident.
“My team and I are going to capture and destroy a few shipments that will cause a loss of billions of dollars. This will alert his clients from making another deal with Quisito and to settle that, he will be forced to go to the site, to carry out the rest of the operations. That time my men will ambush him”
Kate was shocked at his plan but more than that she was scared. It was true that she wanted to escape from Quisito but she didn’t want him dead. She had already lived with the guilt of killing Richard and she did not want something like that to happen again. On the other hand, this plan could also cost many innocent lives.
“Your job is to search his room for the files that has dispatch information like time and location and send me pictures of the same. According to my sources, he will fax this information to his clients before and after the delivery so you will find the file somewhere in his room. This way my men won’t scramble around like a bunch of idiots lost in the desert, just like every time” Placebo said angrily, as he remembered the times when he was fooled while trying to bring Quisito down.
Quisito was a very intelligent and decisive leader who knew how to do things and also how to do them right. He rarely made a mistake that jeopardized his position and has always managed to outsmart his enemies whenever they came against him. If Placebo gets any information regarding the shipment timings and location of arrival, he will have a better shot at taking Quisito down, other than shooting in the dark.
“Look, I..I like the plan b-but I don’t want Quisito to die...” Kate said, concern etching her features.
“Don’t worry Kate...He’ll be alive. I’ll only chop off his wings and claws” Placebo smirked darkly. Though the words were twined with the threat of doom, his assurance settled her rattling conscience.
“Well...if that is the case then I think I’m ready” she agreed while masking her fear.
“Here take this” Placebo placed an earpiece on her hand.
“We will communicate through this device once you get inside his room. Tonight, he will attend a charity event and that will be when you will contact me with this. The earpiece has two buttons; One will automatically connect the call and the other one will disconnect it. Is that clear?” He sounded doubtful because Kate was inexperienced in carrying out risky operations like these.
“And Kate I am warning you again...be wary of Quisito and don’t underestimate him” he cautioned, to which she nodded.
“Now you can go. Call me with the earpiece as soon as he leaves for tonight’s event.”
Placebo then walked her back to the wall and gave her a hand in jumping to the other side. A few people who passed looked at them curiously but none of them said a thing.
After gracefully navigating into her room, she changed back into her normal outfit and hid the earpiece under the mattress.
