41. The bad wolf
I was riding Lucca's horse, holding the reins tightly so as not to be thrown off the horse's mount as the animal galloped at high speed towards Moretti's vineyard. My heart was beating faster, my breathing was ragged, and my blonde hair flew behind me as the cold winter night wind lashed my face as apprehension washed over me. I could hear the children's screams and the howling of the wolf still coming towards me, the werewolf growling as he harmed them. I pulled Pegasus' reins, encouraging him to gallop harder, and when we approached the vineyards, the sight was one of extreme terror.
The great werewolf growled and hunted those poor little creatures that tried to hide between the curtains of the vineyard rows and were caught by the claws of the great furious wolf that destroyed everything that was in front of it, destroying vineyards, crops, grass and land. At the heavy and voracious paws of the supernatural animal, the children screamed in extreme terror as the big, bad wolf destroyed their hiding place.
"No!" I screamed to get the attention of the furious animal, but the giant animal paid me little attention because he had managed to grab his prey, he had one of the children trapped in his claws, and just as he was about to lunge to rip out the poor innocent child's throat, Pegasus, the horse, played his body against the wolf with such force that the dangerous animal staggered and skidded to the ground a few meters away, dropping the poor child in the process. I was still on top of the horse, holding on to it so I wouldn't fall. My arms hurt because of the animal's extreme collision with the wolf's body, but it wasn't like I wanted to give up on saving the children. "Run away!" I screamed at the group of children who were hugging each other in fear. "Run through the vineyards and hide in the woods nearby!" I pointed out, taking advantage of the fact that the wolf was still lying on the ground, recovering from the impact of the blow, but was already recovering his strength and getting up. The children ran away from the wolf.
The wolf was getting up. Pegasus must have been a very strong horse to be able to take down an animal as large and even majestic as this wolf was. He was big and impetuous, his fur was gray, but it looked all stained and worn, and there were bruises on him as if he had been suffering all this time. The skin on his ears was eaten away, and he looked thin and haggard. It was likely that my father-in-law was experimenting on this creature, torturing him in the process, hence the reason for his so much fury and that immense desire to destroy everything he had. Was in front of him. The animal growled directly at me, looking at me with a bloodthirsty look, its neon green eyes staring at me threateningly as if it couldn't wait to cut me into pieces. My heart froze with fear. The wolf jumped into an attack position and went after me to kill me.
"Run, Pegasus!" I screamed in panic holding the horse's reins as if it was keeping me alive, Pegasus was quick to receive the command and took off, riding so fast. "That's it, don't let the wolf get us!" I screamed, my blood pumping rapidly in my ear, adrenaline taking over me, with me being sure that the raging werewolf would not hesitate at any moment to put an end to my existence. The good thing was that I, the supernatural being, now had the attention focused on me and not on the innocent children who were hiding among the vineyard, I just needed them to be saved, I was willing to die for that to become possible.
And the wolf didn't give up on me for anything, we had already run a long distance in the vineyard and the ferocious animal was still coming after me, destroying everything in front of it. He was a supernatural being and it was on a full moon night, clearly his strength was not that few. And unfortunately for me, Pegasus accidentally hit a rock in front of us and skidded heavily on the ground, which made me fall to the ground in such a rough way that my body rolled several times on the ground and collided with a tree. I felt my lungs gasping for air and pain spreading throughout my body.
"Ouch…" I cried in pain holding my throbbing shoulder, Pegasus was writhing on the ground while one of his legs hung in the wrong way, the animal grunted in pain and I almost cried seeing him like that. "Pegasus…" but the wolf hadn't given up on me, as soon as he realized that I was on the ground brooding in pain, he began to slowly approach me with his murderous gaze on me, growling with a victorious air. At that moment I closed my eyes waiting for the final blow, but suddenly another wolf appeared and dragged the wolf that was chasing me with him, the two fell on the other side of the meadow and were scratching and biting each other violently.
I could recognize this new wolf that arrived, its fur was completely dark as night, so majestic, its fierce eyes were a dangerous and threatening neon red. He was certainly Lucca Moretti in his wolf form. But how was Lucca here when he was supposed to be in that jail cell, locked up in Morpeth?
