37. Hello, Dominic

CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN

“So your favorite flavor is strawberry? How could I have not known that?” she chuckled as I scooped another pint of ice cream from the bowl, stuffing it in my mouth.

“Well, nothing can be better than strawberry,” I spoke amidst a mouthful.

“Eww, that’s disgusting. You know my dad will kick your ass for speaking with food in your mouth,” she chuckled as I shrugged.

“By the way I booked us tickets to a movie tonight,” she announced.

“Really?” Nicole would never have sounded this excited.

Why the hell was I actually thinking of Nicole when Anna was right by my side? I hated this more than anything. It was like when it came to Nicole I had no control over what I felt or what I thought. She owned every part of me an it had never made me feel so helpless before.

“Babe? Are you okay?” Anna’s concerned question pulled me out of my reverie.

“Of course I’m fine. Why shouldn’t I be when I have the most beautiful lady by my side?” I grinned just before capturing her lips.

“Have I ever told you that you are such a good kisser?” she giggled against my lips.

“Yes you have but even if you say it a million times it still sounds like a first time,” I answered letting a small grin tag my lips. That was a lie. Her lips were nothing like Nicole’s and even her compliments were not as enticing as they should feel.

“What did I bribe God with to give me such a perfect man?” she murmured.

“Don’t you think I should be the one asking that?”

“Okay now you are flattering me,”

“No, I’m not. I mean every word of it and I know I have never said these words before but I love you. I really do,” Another straight out lie.

“I love you too babe,” she was blushing.

After a few seconds, she took my hand, gazing deep into my eyes. Whenever she had that intense look in her eyes, I knew she was about to ask something I would not exactly be enthusiastic about.

“What happened?” she asked softly.

“What do you mean?” I asked back though I already had a feeling what she was talking about.

“Why did you leave her? Your ex-wife,” she added.

“We just couldn’t work out. We were not really meant for each other, something that I wish I saw right from the beginning,” I shrugged yet again, trying to hide the sudden constriction in the pit of my stomach.

“I don’t believe that Dominic. I know that you loved her and sometimes I tend to think you still do especially with how you act these days,”

“So now you are doubting my love for you?” I accused though I knew I had given her reasons to doubt me.

“No, it’s not that. It’s just that, every time I brought that subject about Nicole, you always found a way to somehow dodge it. Why Dominic?” she questioned.

“Look, I’m over Nicole okay?” I was beginning to get frustrated every time we had to speak about that.

“Dominic…” she trailed off.

“Look Anna, I can’t have someone in my life who doesn’t trust me,” I spoke, feeling my nerves growing to an edge. I had no right to be angry at her accusations but I still did.

The ringing of my phone cut my angry trail of thoughts.

“What do you want William?” I inquired running a hand through my hair.

“If you still want my hotels you should know how to speak nicely to me, especially now that there is another competent player in the game,” I could feel his grin through his words.

“What is that supposed to mean? Last I checked I was the only one interested in buying your hotels,”

“Look, if you are really interested you would bring your ass over at my company right now,” I could almost hear the smirk in his voice.

“Okay. I’ll be there in twenty,”

Stealing a quick glance on my phone I realized it was five minutes to seven in the evening.

“Where are you going?”

“I have some business to attend but I’ll be back before the movie begins. Make sure you get ready by then,” I placed a quick kiss on her lips before rushing upstairs to my room.

In the record time I of nine minutes, I had taken a bath and was dressed in a crisp white suit before picking my car keys. I arrived at William’s company after ten minutes rushing to the elevator. Alighting on the twentieth floor, I rushed to the conference room. William was sitting all alone, going through his phone, with his feet resting on the table before him.

“Seriously? Aren’t you over the age of playing pranks?” I fumed realizing there was no other person in the room except for him and me.

“Am I playing a prank Dominic?” an easy grin played on his lips.

“Fine then. Who is this bloody fool who thinks they can compete with me in this? Is it Lawrence Stewart again?”

“Of course not. He wasn’t much of a competition though, was he?” the moment I heard that voice behind me followed by the clicking of heels on the floor, I couldn’t hide my shock.

“N-Nicole?” I muttered in a small voice the moment she stood beside me.

“Hello, Dominic,” a confident smile played on her lips that were covered in a dark hue of red, looking the sexiest I had ever seen her.
