Chapter 103
Nick drove recklessly, his anger boiling. The car swayed as he struggled to maintain control, his thoughts a chaotic mess.
"Slow down, Nick!" Laura shouted, panic evident in her voice.
"How could you do this to me? You always knew I had vices! Thanks to Loren's selfish desires, everything is so hard for me, and you followed me just to make me look bad!" he yelled, gripping the steering wheel tightly.
"Are you kidding me? Want to talk about shame? You cheat on me and still try to play the victim? You're a monster, Nick! It's all clear to me now—it's over! Pack your things and go!"
"There is no end, Laura! You are mine, my wife! I won't accept that a small mistake ends everything we have. We have a child together!"
"What child? We don’t have any children together; Miran is your brother’s son!"
"Never say that again! He is my son! I’ve been with you all this time. I was the father he’ll never have." Nick's voice trembled with a mix of anger and desperation, the weight of his words hanging heavily in the air.
"Stop this car now, or I'm jumping out, Nick!"
"You’re not going anywhere, Laura! We’re going home. We’ll get our son and go to a place where no one can find us. Morgan will never find us. Now that he knows you left me, he won't leave you alone."
"Nick, please, stop this car!"
Desperate, Laura grabbed the steering wheel, trying to force Nick to stop. The car lost control, swaying dangerously from side to side as they struggled for dominance over the vehicle.
"You’re putting our lives at risk!" Nick shouted, his eyes fixed on the road, but the growing tension between them made everything even more dangerous.
"I don’t care! This can't go on like this!" Laura replied, her voice filled with emotion and despair. The car spun slightly, and the sound of tires screeching echoed in the night as their fight intensified, threatening to spiral out of control—not just the car, but their lives.
The car rolled over, and as Laura was thrown out, Nick, trapped by his seatbelt, felt the intense pain of one of his arms breaking. He desperately tried to escape the vehicle, but his position prevented him from moving. With his breath coming in gasps and adrenaline pumping, he activated the car's voice command.
"911, how can I help you?" the operator asked, her calm voice contrasting with Nick’s panic.
"My wife and I had an accident. I was trapped in the car, and she was thrown out. I can't get out!" Nick's voice trembled with fear.
"Sir, what is the location of the accident?"
"Corner of Browser, in front of the downtown road. Please hurry! My wife is hurt!" Desperation was evident in his words.
"We're sending an ambulance now. Stay calm; we’ll be there in five minutes."
"Okay," Nick replied, trying to control his breathing and pain while looking outside, worried about Laura. He knew every second counted, and the wait felt endless.
The siren of the ambulance cut through the silence of the night, its red and blue lights flashing in the dark as it quickly approached the scene of the accident. The paramedics, trained to act quickly and precisely, were focused and determined.
"We're almost there!" one of the paramedics shouted, adjusting the equipment as the driver skillfully maneuvered through the road.
As the ambulance parked, the paramedics jumped out of the vehicle, quickly putting their gear on their shoulders. They rushed towards the overturned car, where Nick was still trapped, his eyes filled with relief at seeing help finally arrive.
"Hi, I'm Paramedic Miller! What happened?" one of the men asked, while another prepared to assess Laura.
"My wife and I had an accident. She was thrown out of the car and was hurt. I'm stuck here!" Nick explained, his voice tense.
"Calm down, we'll take care of you. First, we need to assess your wife," Miller said, quickly moving to where Laura lay on the ground, checking her condition.
"Laura! Are you okay?" Nick called, his concern growing as he saw her lying there, a cut on her face and some visible scrapes, but breathing.
"I... I'm here, Nick," she replied with difficulty, trying to get up, but the pain made her stop.
"Don't move; we're here to help!" Miller said as his partner checked Laura's vital signs.
After a few minutes of teamwork, the paramedics stabilized Laura and prepared her for transport. "We need to take her to the hospital, but you also need care. We'll get you out of the car now," Miller said, focused.
Nick felt a wave of relief and fear at the same time. He knew they needed help, and now they were finally getting it. As the paramedics worked quickly, the siren of the ambulance continued to echo through the night, promising that help was on the way.
After stabilizing Laura, the paramedics placed her on a stretcher and took her inside the ambulance. Nick, still stuck in his seat, watched worriedly as the door closed.
"We need intravenous access!" shouted one of the paramedics as he prepared the equipment. The other paramedic began to perform gentle compressions on Laura's chest, which was conscious but visibly weak.
"Laura, I'm here! You're going to be okay!" Nick tried to convey courage, but his voice was filled with tension.
The ambulance began to move quickly toward the hospital, the sound of the siren echoing in the darkness of the night. With each turn, Nick's worry increased.
"Blood pressure is dropping; we need to resuscitate her!" The paramedic's voice cut through the tense air. He began performing chest compressions while the other paramedic prepared a defibrillator.
"Laura, you need to fight! We’re here with you!" Nick cried, his heart tightening as he watched the situation unfold.
As the paramedic applied compressions, the other paramedic connected the electrodes to Laura's chest. "Discharge in three, two, one... now!" The electric shock coursed through Laura’s body, but she remained unresponsive. The tension in the ambulance grew.
"Let’s try again," said the paramedic, focusing. "Discharge!" And once again, the electricity coursed through Laura's body.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Laura's vital signs began to stabilize. "She’s back! Vital signs stable!" announced one of the paramedics, a mix of relief and tension on his face.
"We're almost there," said the paramedic driving, stepping on the gas. "The hospital is just a few minutes away."
As the ambulance raced through the streets, Nick felt a wave of hope mixed with fear. He knew Laura's fight wasn't over, but the emergency team was doing everything they could to save her. He braced himself for what was to come, determined to be by her side every step of the way through this challenging journey.
Finally, as they arrived at the hospital, the ambulance stopped, and the team began to work quickly. Nick was removed from the car, and despite the pain in his broken arm, he eagerly followed inside, where the medical team was already waiting. Laura's fight for life was just beginning, and he was determined not to let her fight alone.
