Chapter 37 Maintenance

Chapter 37 Maintenance

Yasmin wore a designer dress, her makeup flawless, with a smug smile on her face.

Seeing Caroline walk in, Yasmin immediately waved her over.

"Caroline, over here! Come quick!"

Caroline pulled James along and hurried over.

Yasmin's gaze fell on James, her eyes lighting up at first, showing a flash of amazement.

James was tall with sharp features and a cool demeanor—he was indeed quite handsome.

But thinking about James's status, that bit of amazement instantly turned to disdain.

What good was being handsome? He was still just a poor guy with nothing to his name.

Yasmin curled her lip, ignoring James, and grabbed Caroline's hand, introducing enthusiastically.

"Caroline, let me introduce you—this is my boyfriend, Quinton Reed."

"He's from the Reed family in Silvermoon City. His family is in the arms business, and they're really influential in Silvermoon City."

Yasmin's tone was full of showing off, and her eyes carried a hint of provocation as she looked at James.

Hearing the name "the Reed family," James's eyes flickered slightly.

The Reed family—of course he knew them. They were a famous arms family in Silvermoon City with considerable power.

Moreover, the Reed family's business seemed to have connections with international arms groups.

He calmly sized up Quinton, his gaze landing on his wrist.

Quinton wore a shirt, and on his wrist was a small snake head tattoo, hidden under his cuff, barely visible.

James's pupils contracted slightly, and he instantly became alert.

A snake head tattoo—that was the symbol of Ironclad Weapons Corp. Why would it appear on Quinton?

Could the Reed family have some connection with Ironclad Weapons Corp?

James withdrew his gaze, already forming a plan in his mind.

He wanted to see what relationship this Quinton, and the Reed family, actually had with Ironclad Weapons Corp.

Quinton stood up with a smile, his face showing fake modesty, but his eyes full of arrogance.

"Yasmin is too kind. My family just does a little business, nothing worth mentioning."

His gaze fell on Caroline, and he was instantly stunned, his eyes going straight.

Caroline was pure and beautiful with a gentle temperament—far better looking than Yasmin.

Quinton immediately felt unbalanced. How could such a beautiful woman be with a poor nobody?

Wicked thoughts arose in his mind as he secretly wished he could have Caroline for himself.

With James's lowly status, he didn't deserve to have such a beautiful woman.

Quinton plastered on a fake smile and proactively extended his hand toward Caroline.

"Ms. Collins, I've heard so much about you."

"Yasmin has mentioned you before, saying you're very beautiful. Seeing you today, you truly live up to your reputation."

Caroline frowned, sensing the ill intentions in his gaze, and instinctively took a step back.

She didn't like physical contact with strangers, and she especially disliked Quinton's lustful look.

James stepped forward, blocking Caroline, his tone cold.

"Sorry, my girlfriend doesn't like contact with others."

Quinton's outstretched hand froze in mid-air, and the smile on his face instantly stiffened.

He felt somewhat embarrassed and annoyed, thinking James was deliberately making him lose face.

A poor nobody daring to talk to him like this? He really didn't know his place.

Yasmin didn't notice anything wrong and continued gloating.

She looked at James, her eyes full of contempt, deliberately speaking sarcastically,

"Mr. Anderson, right?"

"This restaurant is very upscale with high prices. Have you been here before?"

She was deliberately making things difficult for James, wanting to embarrass him and make Caroline see his true colors.

James glanced at her indifferently without speaking, simply pulling Caroline to sit down in a chair.

He couldn't be bothered with Yasmin. As long as she didn't go too far, he wouldn't make a move.

Caroline sensed the awkward atmosphere and quickly tried to ease it.

"Yasmin, let's order. I'm hungry."

Yasmin snorted, picked up the menu, and handed it to James.

"Mr. Anderson, you order first."

"This restaurant's menu is all in French. Can you read it? Don't order wrong and make a fool of yourself."

Her tone was full of mockery, just trying to embarrass James.

Caroline's face darkened, getting a bit angry.

"Yasmin, don't talk like that."

"Okay, Caroline, I'm just joking. Don't be mad."

Yasmin cut her off, her tone perfunctory.

Quinton watched this scene, a mocking smile playing at the corner of his mouth, and also picked up the menu.

"Let me order. I come here often and know what's good."

He flipped through the menu skillfully, ordering several dishes in fluent French—all signature items of the restaurant.

After ordering, he deliberately looked at Caroline and said with a smile,

"Ms. Collins, I ordered foie gras for you. It tastes really good."

"You probably haven't had it before, right? Today you can try something new."

His tone was full of superiority, as if Caroline was some country bumpkin who had never seen anything.

Caroline frowned without speaking, feeling very uncomfortable.

James watched Quinton's smug expression and a cold smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

He picked up the menu and ordered several dishes in French even more fluent than Quinton's.

Every dish was the most expensive in the restaurant, costing more than all of Quinton's orders combined.

The waiter was stunned for a moment, then quickly and respectfully wrote it down, eyes full of surprise.

Quinton's expression changed instantly. The smugness on his face disappeared without a trace, replaced by shock and embarrassment.

He hadn't expected that this poor James could speak fluent French and order such expensive dishes.

This wasn't at all like someone with nothing—it was more like a wealthy person who regularly frequented high-end establishments.

Yasmin was also stunned, the mockery on her face frozen, her eyes full of disbelief.

How could James speak French? And afford to order such expensive dishes? Wasn't he supposed to be poor?

James put down the menu, glanced at Quinton indifferently, his tone carrying a hint of sarcasm.

"Mr. Reed, sorry, maybe the dishes I ordered are a bit more expensive than yours."

"But it's fine. I'm paying today, so you don't need to spend your money."

Quinton's face looked terrible. He was so angry his teeth itched, but he couldn't lash out.

He couldn't lose face in front of Caroline, so he could only force himself to stay calm and say with a smile,

"Mr. Anderson is really too generous."

"I can still afford this much money, but since you're paying, I won't be polite."

He said this, but in his heart he already hated James.

A poor nobody daring to show off his wealth in front of him—he was asking for death.

Yasmin snapped back to reality and quickly tried to ease the atmosphere,

"You two don't need to be so polite. It doesn't matter who pays."

She paused, then started showing off again.

"Caroline, Quinton and I had such a great time abroad this time."

"We went to Paris, Rome, and the Maldives. The scenery there was so beautiful."

"Quinton also bought me lots of designer bags and jewelry, all limited editions."
