Chapter 256 Jealousy

Chapter 256 Jealousy

Jennifer's eyes were glued to her phone screen.

The livestream was still going.

On the screen, Charlotte pulled out one piece of evidence after another.

Records of her paying internet trolls.

Audio recordings of her bribing journalists.

Even the bank transfer records from when someone bailed her out of jail—all laid out crystal clear in front of the camera.

Jennifer's hands began to tremble.

Her phone clattered to the floor.

How did this happen?

Her plan had been foolproof.

She was supposed to destroy Charlotte's reputation.

How did it turn out like this?

Jennifer clutched her head, her body shaking uncontrollably.

The game was over.

She was finished.

This time, she was truly finished.

Just then, the police started trying to break down the door.

Jennifer's face went instantly pale.

No!

She couldn't let them take her back!

Those days in prison—she never wanted to experience them again, not for the rest of her life!

"Jennifer! We know you're in there! Open the door now! Otherwise we're breaking it down!"

The voice outside grew more forceful.

Jennifer jumped to her feet, her eyes darting around frantically.

She couldn't go back to prison!

Jennifer glanced at the window.

This was the second floor.

Jumping down probably wouldn't kill her.

As long as she could escape, there was still a chance.

She rushed to the window and shoved it open.

Cold air rushed in, making her shiver.

BANG!

The door burst open.

"Jennifer! Don't move!"

Police rushed in.

Jennifer spun around. The moment she saw them, she completely panicked.

She screamed, "Don't come any closer!"

"Stay back! If you come any closer, I'll jump!"

One foot was already on the windowsill.

The lead officer's expression changed. He immediately stopped, "Jennifer! Calm down! Don't do anything stupid!"

"Whatever it is, we can talk about it at the station!"

"No!" Jennifer shrieked, her hair disheveled, eyes wild, "I won't go back! I'd rather die than go back to that hellhole!"

"It's all Charlotte! She's the one who ruined me!"

"If it weren't for her, I'd be Mrs. Summers by now! Why should I go back to prison!"

Her emotions spiraling, her body teetered precariously on the windowsill.

The officer edged forward slowly, trying to calm her, "Just come down first. As long as you cooperate with the investigation, we'll handle this according to the law."

"You're lying! You're all in on it together!" Jennifer screamed hysterically, "You're all on Charlotte's side! You all want me dead!"

"I'm telling you, even if I die, I won't let you win!"

As she spoke, she lifted her other foot.

Then, her foot slipped.

A piercing scream.

Jennifer's body plummeted straight down.

THUD.

The dull sound of impact.

The world went instantly silent.

The officers rushed to the window and looked down.

Jennifer lay on the ground, her head having struck the concrete steps below. Blood spread across the pavement instantly.

Her eyes were still wide open, dying with unresolved grievance.

The officer immediately grabbed his radio, "Jennifer fell! Get an ambulance here now!"

But it was already too late.

By the time the ambulance arrived, Jennifer had stopped breathing.

George and Charlotte were on their way home when David called.

"Mr. Summers, Jennifer's dead." David's voice came through the phone.

George paused.

"How?"

"Police went to arrest her. She resisted, tried to escape by jumping from a second-floor window. She slipped, fell, hit her head on the steps. Dead on impact." David reported.

George fell silent.

Charlotte turned to look at him, "What's wrong?"

George hung up. "Jennifer's dead."

Charlotte froze.

"Fell to her death trying to resist arrest." George added.

The car went quiet for a few seconds.

Charlotte spoke softly, "How do you feel?"

George sighed.

"Nothing much."

"She brought it on herself."

"I promised her mother I'd take care of her." George's voice was flat. "But taking care of someone doesn't mean enabling them without limits."

"She did so many terrible things, hurt so many people. Getting to this point—it was all her own choices."

Charlotte said nothing.

She knew George was actually hurting inside.

After all, Jennifer's mother had been kind to him.

George was silent for a moment, then called David back.

"Spread the word." George's voice turned cold. "Close the net."

"Yes, sir!"

After hanging up, George glanced at Charlotte.

"Time to finish things with Isaac."

Charlotte nodded.

Jennifer had only been a pawn Isaac pushed forward.

Over the next three days, the entire business world turned upside down.

The Summers Group launched a full-scale attack.

In the stock market, the Reynolds Group's shares were dumped en masse.

Several major partnership projects were all terminated on the same day.

Banks suddenly called in loans, draining all of the Reynolds Group's liquid assets.

Isaac sat in his office, looking at one piece of bad news after another, his face ashen.

"How is this possible?" He slammed the documents on his desk. "How did our cash flow suddenly dry up?"

"George! How does he still have moves left?"

He never imagined George would deliver a killing blow at this moment.

Catching him completely off guard.

"Mr. Reynolds, what do we do now?" His assistant stood across from him. "If this continues, we won't last three days!"

Isaac clenched his jaw, his eyes dark.

After thinking for a long time, he finally called George.

"What is it?" George's voice was emotionless.

"George, let's meet. I have something to say to you."

"Not necessary." George refused directly. "We have nothing to discuss."

"What? Afraid?" Isaac sneered. "Or do you not want to know why I did all this to you?"

Silence on the other end for a few seconds.

Charlotte heard him on the phone and asked curiously, "What's wrong?"

"Isaac wants to meet." George said.

"Go ahead. Meet him. Better to clear the air." Charlotte patted his shoulder.

She had a feeling this might be the last time he and Isaac would meet.

"My office." Hearing Charlotte agree, Isaac knew George would come. "I'll be waiting."

After hanging up, Isaac leaned back in his chair and exhaled deeply.

Half an hour later, the office door opened.

George walked in alone.

Isaac raised an eyebrow. "You actually dared to come alone?"

"Aren't you afraid I'll do something to you here? Take you out right now?"

George sat down across from him, shaking his head.

"You won't."

"Oh?" Isaac smiled. "You're that sure?"

"If you wanted me dead, you've had countless opportunities."

Isaac froze, then smiled bitterly.

"Yeah, you still know me best."

"You're right. I won't."

He stood and walked to the bar, pouring two glasses of whiskey.

He carried the glasses back, placing one in front of George.

"You know, I've been jealous of you since we were kids."
