Chapter 80 80
Chapter 80 80
ADELINE
“Or I have no other choice but to put that face to some actual use.” I snapped. Calming myself was a chore, but I managed it eventually. “I mean, some of that shine would make the counter sparkle again, don’t you think?” I tapped my index finger against my jaw like I was deep in thought as I checked all corners of her face. Clicking my fingers in a quick snap, I gasped, “Oh that’s true, you don’t even do that, do you?”
The bitch glared back at me, I could see the fumes practically coming out her ears, still I couldn’t even take her seriously, not with how her entire fingers were coated in chocolate that once belonged to a kid. Talk about stealing candy from a baby.
“Try it and I would have Grayson kick you out of our home!” She fired, her voice more of a whine than whatever she was actually going for, it was torture to my ears. I would have just let it go if it meant not having to hear her speak again for the rest of my life.
I scoffed at her empty threats. Maybe she knew, maybe she didn’t, but there was no way in hell Grayson would actually throw me out of his house, not when I carried his child. He might be confused as to how to treat her considering, but he wouldn’t dare to even suggest I leave before I was out of there. I loved him, as painful as it was to admit it despite everything, I still did, but love wouldn’t be enough to make me stay if he got too comfortable with the idea of a second opinion in every single situation.
“The only thing that would make Grayson listen to you is if you suddenly grew some self respect and tell him you finally decided to give us some breathing room.” Three is a crowd, but four? Yeah, she could take the next train to wherever for all I knew.
She leaned into the counter, smearing rich chocolate brown into it, her eyes focused on me with intent. Nothing but a dare laid behind them. She wasn’t saying anything, but the way she would smear and spread the mess, from pancakes to counter, never once did she break eye contact. There was no mistaking it, she was daring me to do my worse. If Grayson and I were in a better place, maybe I actually would have tried it just to make her shut up, but we weren’t and she needed to be taught a very valuable lesson, one her mother forgot to teach her or she was too dumb to process!
Without over thinking it, I grabbed the bottle of chocolate syrup. Her eyes widened in shock, but before she could process it enough to escape, I tilted the bottle and dumped its entire content on her her head.
“There have it all.” I couldn’t help or contain the smile as I admired my work. Brown sugary liquid dripped down from her hair to the sides of her face, coating her ears, neck, but most especially and the best part of it all, it made such a mess of her white dress, it would take a whole lot of effort and products to even get the top layer out. Just perfect.
Her arms flared beside her. Her slow brain took its sweet time to process what had really happened. She wiped down the sides of her face, the syrup too sticky to get off completely.
After what felt like ages of struggling to no avail, she groaned angrily, her eyes flashed with anger as she faced me, “You bitch!” She charged at me, her eyes wide and furious, like a raging bull charging towards its target. “How dare you?!” She grabbed the first thing her hands reached for, a glass of juice. The liquid sloshed and swished around the glass even before she got close to me.
It only too a second of thought. She chugged the glass at me. The liquid came straight for my face. Any second longer and I would have been drenched. At the last second I dodged, my feet moved before my mind could catch up, escaping at the very last second.
Orange juice splattered all over the kitchen floor, a true mess now. I was still processing just how much work I would have to do to clean it up when the next glass came my way. I ducked just in. The glass and its content crashed into the fridge, shattering into pieces instantly.
“What the hell?!” My heart pounded in my chest, the sound loud in my ears. Her eyes were wide and craze, her hair no longer perfectly straight and tucked behind her ear, but rather a bird’s nesting dream.
My attempt at pulling her back didn’t even make her flinch, let alone stop her. Glass after glass, she chugged my way without a single card or worry that she might actually hit me.
Each one was closer than the last. It only took one shot, the one shot where the glass rushed passed the sides of my ear, a chill spread from the chill of the glass down my spine, the wind as it rushed passed fast and all the warning I needed. The bitch was fucking mad and should be locked up in a psychiatric ward!
The kitchen exit had never looked as far as it did in that moment. My vision has begun to blur from all the effort it took to move around, and fast too. I couldn’t let my focus slip though, that was all she needed to get her wish. Me out of the way, even if it meant milling me herself over freaking chocolate syrup!
There was no where else I could use as an escape. The windows were shut tight, her next glass would probably hit my back before I even got to climb through. The cupboards were not an alternative either. She could and would easily lock me in from the outside.
There has to be something I can do. A way out. Just one before the witch actually killed me is all I ask. Wait, maybe there was. A risk because it could go straight to hell if I was right, but it was the only way. It should stop her or at least I was certain it was possible to distract her with it long enough to make a run for it before she actually got my head in her path.
A heavy jug came charging straight for me. I ducked, bending to the same level as the gas cooker. “I’m pregnant!” I cried. There was no point holding my dignity when I was seconds from actually being killed. Lila Archer and Elena Archer were in the house, but I’m pretty sure they would join in the ‘throw glasses at the living, breathing piñata’ instead of doing anything to help me.
Her hand stilled. Knew it!
“It’s for Grayson.” I continued in a careful voice as I lifted both hands in surrender, my eyes dancing between her and the floor, which was now mostly broken glasses with a touch of marble tiles.
She eyed me, but her eyes were glazed over, like she was there but not really, like her mind took a vacation and it was proving impossible to process what I had just said.
The kitchen went deadly silent, the only sound that of our labored breathing, I clutched my stomach because it was the only thing I could do not to kneel on the floor for some relief.
“Grayson’s child?” It sounded like a question for me, but she wasn’t looking, her gaze pierced through me, leaving goosebumps as her eyes took me in for what felt like the first time since she barged into our lives.
My first instinct had been to respond with a nod, that was of course until she looked at my belly, her eyes narrowing into slits as she settled her gaze there. “You mean you’re pregnant and it’s Grayson’s?” Her voice was calm, but her chest heaved up and down in a rush, and so did mine because it was becoming more obvious that she needed to be in a psych ward and not trying to play house.
I nodded slowly. Still surprised she hadn’t shoved my head in already. She stayed with her back curved in the weirdest way, but she wasn’t charging at me anymore. I calmed, my heart still raced, but it wasn’t threatening to jump out of my chest anymore.
“Get rid of it.” She said coldly, her eyes pinned on my belly like it was the devils incarnate itself.
“Wait, what?!”
“I said,” she took steps closer to me, slow and deliberate, “get.rid.of.it.” She dragged painfully slow as if to make sure even the slowest of people could understand. “Get rid of that bastard in your belly!” She snapped, the crazed look back full force, if anything, she was more furious than she had been before.
Scarlett grabbed another glass and at that point I was too tired to fight anymore. I tried to live a fulfilling life, I still held out hope that Grayson and I would one day see eye to eye and just be, but maybe it was my time to go afterall.
Resigned, I forced my eyes shut at her next grab, ready to feel the inevitable pain of glass piercing into my skin, drawing out blood from the most unexpected of places till there was no
ne left to keep me living.
“What the hell is going on here?”
