The End
Maya's pov
I wanted Wale to come back into my life, but only to remind him of my worth and show him what he had lost. That was the main reason I left his house. He shouldn’t think that, just because he had managed to stop my wedding with Grayson, I was automatically his. But what now? I paused, my thoughts interrupted by the weight of the truth I was hiding. My pregnancy. I could easily claim it was Wale’s since we made love together in the beginning when I stepped into his house, but deep down, guilt consumed me. This was a mistake I had made, and he deserved to know the truth.
I had just put Alexandra to sleep when I first heard the sound of cars pulling up outside my house. My heart raced. Was Wale here? It wouldn’t be surprising if he came unannounced. But then, a loud banging on the door shattered the quietness of my house. My pulse quickened. That wasn’t Wale’s style of knocking, he wouldn’t knock like that, nor would he allow his guards to behave so recklessly. Fear gripped me as I rushed to the door, praying Alexandra wouldn’t wake up.
What I heard next tore my world apart.
“You want honeycombs but can’t handle the bee stings? Enough talk, go inside and bring out my baby!” Grayson’s furious voice thundered as he extended his arm towards my house. His words struck hard. I had known this day would come, but not so soon. Alexandra was a part of me, my everything. Losing her would feel like losing a piece of my soul.
Before I could respond, Grayson barked orders at the three men and one woman standing behind him.
“Go inside and get my baby!”
“Grayson, she still needs my care. She’s just a baby,” I pleaded desperately.
“If you had thought of that, you wouldn’t have done what you did to me,” he shot back, his eyes cold.
I followed them in a panic, but by the time I reached Alexandra’s room, one of the men had already picked her up. Alexandra wailed, her cries piercing my heart, as the stranger’s unfamiliar hands held her roughly. She had never been handled that way before. Tears streamed down my face as I tried to reach her, but the other men blocked my way, pushing me back every time I struggled. Alexandra’s cries grew louder, and with each passing second, my world crumbled further.
“Please, don’t take her! She’s my baby!” I screamed, my voice breaking with desperation.
But they didn’t stop. Watching Alexandra being carried out of the house felt like someone was ripping my heart out with their bare hands. The moment she crossed the doorpost, her cries came out louder, my legs gave way. My vision blurred, and I collapsed. Darkness swallowed me whole. My heart couldn't take it again.
When I finally opened my eyes, I was in a hospital bed. The bright lights of the intensive care unit stung my eyes, forcing me to blink repeatedly. My body felt so weak. Weak to the point that I found it difficult to move my hands and legs. Then, I heard a familiar voice.
“My dearest, please wake up…”
It was Wale. His voice was soft, almost pleading, and it stirred something inside me. As I turned my head, I felt his hand holding mine gently. A moment later, he kissed the back of my hand, his touch tender and warm. When I finally managed to focus, I saw tears streaming down his face.
“Wale…” I whispered and he lowered his head and said, “you will be fine.”
He squeezed my hand tighter, his expression speaking volumes of the pain he felt seeing me like this.
“I’m here,” he said softly. “I’m not going anywhere.”
For a moment, his presence felt like a lifeline, grounding me in a world that had just been turned upside down. But even as I lay there, a part of me knew that this was far from over. Alexandra was gone, and there was no way to bring her back.
“I’m so happy you woke up. It’s been three days, and the doctors were battling to revive you,” Wale said, his voice full of concern.
Three days? I couldn’t believe it. I wanted to speak, but my voice felt weak. The first words I managed to whisper were, “Where is my baby? I want my baby.” My memories were returning, and with them, the pain of what had brought me here.
Wale immediately called the doctors. One of them entered, running checks on me. I had been in a coma for three days. The doctor gently helped me sit up as I tried to gather my strength. But my heart was restless, and the ache in my chest was unbearable.
“I want my baby,” I repeated, tears streaming down my face.
Wale held my hand. “Don’t cry,” he said, his voice soft yet firm. “We can have a baby of our own.”
His words stopped me cold. It was then I remembered I was also carrying a baby in my womb, but it wasn’t his. It was from that one night, with a man I barely knew. How could I tell Wale now? What if he was disappointed and walked away? But this was something he deserved to know.
When? I wondered.
As the day went on, I grew stronger, and by the fifth day, the day of my discharge, I felt ready to face the world again, though my heart was still heavy. That evening, Wale came into my hospital room with a bright smile.
“I have a surprise for you,” he announced.
“Surprise?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. Knowing Wale’s wealth, a surprise could mean anything, jewelry, a luxury car, or some grand gesture.
After signing the discharge papers, we left the hospital. As we stepped into the car, I couldn’t hold back any longer. The memory of last night’s news broadcast made me sad.
“Wale, I’m sorry…” I said in a low voice.
“Sorry? Sorry for what?” he asked, clearly confused.
“I heard the news,” I murmured. “You’re no longer the CEO of your dad’s company because of me…”
He laughed softly. “Don’t feel bad. I have several corporations under my name. And have you forgotten about B and A Corporation? B stands for Maya, and A stands for Wale.”
My eyes widened in surprise. I had never imagined that he had named a company after us.
As the car began moving, I turned to him. “Where are we going?”
“It’s a surprise,” he said with a sly smile.
I leaned back, trying to guess what he had in store for me. When the car drove past his mansion, I grew even more curious.
“I would’ve asked you to close your eyes, but you’re too stubborn to keep them shut,” he teased.
I chuckled nervously, though my mind was racing. Was he planning to propose? Was this his way of starting over? The car finally stopped after what felt like an eternity, and he guided me out.
“Alright, open your eyes,” he said with excitement.
I blinked, and what I saw made my stomach drop.
“This is… this is Grayson’s house!” I exclaimed, my voice shaky.
“Yes,” Wale replied, his tone calm and deliberate.
Panic surged through me. My mind raced back to the hospital. Had the doctors discovered my pregnancy during their tests? Was Wale bringing me here to humiliate me, to return me after learning the truth, or that I was pregnant for Grayson?
I frowned, ready to confront him, but before I could speak, the door to the house swung open. Grayson stepped out, his face dark with anger.
“What are you doing on my property?” he barked. “This isn’t one of my father’s companies that you can buy. Get out!” He pointed toward the road.
Wale remained unfazed. “I know this is your property, and I’m not here to take it from you,” he said calmly. “But before we leave, we want our baby. Alexandra. My baby, for your understanding. Any refusal, and I will charge you with kidnapping.”
My heart pounded. What was Wale saying? Was Alexandra actually his baby? My mind was confused and I couldn't believe it.
Grayson’s face twisted with fury, but he didn’t speak. I turned to Wale, searching his eyes for answers, but he was focused entirely on Grayson.
“How?” I whispered to myself. Am I dreaming?
