Chapter 65 Going to find Gina!

Chapter 65 Going to find Gina!
Richard sat in his private ward, staring at the ceiling, lost in thought. His body was more than ready to be discharged, but his heart wasn’t.
He knew that the moment he stepped out of the hospital, his chances of seeing April would decrease significantly.
She had been avoiding him—hiding behind her professional mask, pretending like he was just another patient. And he hated it.
He hated how she looked at him like he was a stranger.
A knock on the door snapped him out of his thoughts.
“Come in,” he said, his voice tired.
Ethan, his assistant, walked in, carrying a thick file in his hands.
“I found everything you asked for,” Ethan said, placing the file on the small table beside Richard’s bed. “Everything about Dr. April Harrington since she left after the divorce.”
Richard’s heart pounded as he reached for the file. His fingers trembled slightly as he opened it.
The first few pages contained basic information—her employment history, medical career, and places she had lived. But as he flipped further, something made his breath catch in his throat.
His eyes widened. His hands clenched around the paper.
He felt like the ground beneath him had disappeared.
Two kids.
April has two kids.
His vision blurred for a second as a rush of emotions flooded his mind.
She had moved on. She had a family now.
That was why she didn’t want to see him. That was why she treated him like nothing more than a patient.
The realization hit him like a train, and for a moment, he couldn’t breathe.
Richard’s grip on the file tightened, his jaw clenching. Different thoughts ran wild in his head—Who was the father? When did she get married? Did she love this man? Was she happy?
The idea of another man touching her, holding her, being the father of her children—it made his blood boil.
Ethan, noticing Richard’s reaction, quickly spoke up.
“Sir, I thought the same thing at first, but after digging deeper, I found something interesting.”
Richard’s sharp gaze snapped up to him. “What is it?”
“There’s no record of a husband,” Ethan said. “There’s no sign of a man in her life at all. Just the kids and her best friend, Gina.”
Richard frowned. “Gina?”
“Yes. Gina Campbell. She worked in your company years ago, alongside April.”
Richard’s mind flashed back to the past. Of course, he remembered Gina. She and April had been close, practically inseparable.
If anyone knew the truth about April’s life, it would be her.
A plan started forming in his mind.
He couldn’t let this go. He needed answers.
And he needed them now.
Richard threw the file aside and swung his legs over the bed.
“Ethan,” he said, his voice steady, “get everything ready. I’m leaving the hospital today.”
Ethan looked hesitant. “Are you sure? You haven’t—”
“I’m fine,” Richard cut in sharply. “I don’t need to stay here any longer. I have more important things to handle.”
Ethan nodded. “I’ll take care of the discharge papers right away.”
Richard leaned back slightly, exhaling deeply. His mind was made up.
He was going to find Gina.
And he was going to find out everything about those kids.
After settling his discharge papers, Richard stepped out of the hospital, flanked by two of his bodyguards. Ethan walked beside him, ensuring everything was in order.
Just as they were heading toward the car, Richard’s steps faltered when he spotted a familiar face standing near the hospital entrance.
Mr. Harrington.
April’s father.
Richard’s entire body stiffened.
His jaw clenched, his fists curling at his sides. He had no desire to interact with the man, so he simply kept walking, choosing to ignore him completely.
But Mr. Harrington wasn’t going to let him go that easily.
“Richard!” he called out, his voice thick with forced enthusiasm.
Richard’s patience was already thin, and hearing the older man’s voice only irritated him further.
He didn’t stop.
But Mr. Harrington hurried after him.
“Richard, my boy,” he said with a fake chuckle, falling into step beside him. “What a coincidence, running into you here.”
Richard finally stopped, turning his cold, piercing gaze on him.
“Cut the act,” Richard said bluntly. “What do you want?”
Mr. Harrington gave an awkward laugh, rubbing his hands together. “Come on now, is that any way to greet your former father-in-law?”
Richard scoffed. “We both know you were never a father to April. And you were never anything to me, either.”
The older man’s smile faltered for a split second before he quickly masked it with a sheepish grin.
“I see you’re still as straightforward as ever,” Mr. Harrington muttered. Then he let out a dramatic sigh. “I was just surprised to see you here. And, well, since we’re on the topic, have you seen April?”
Richard’s entire body went rigid.
He narrowed his eyes at Mr. Harrington. “Why do you care?”
“She’s my daughter, of course I care!”
Richard let out a humorless laugh.
“You care?” he repeated mockingly. “That’s rich, coming from the man who abandoned her the moment she stopped being useful to him.”
Mr. Harrington’s face darkened. “That’s not true. She left on her own. She—”
Richard held up a hand, cutting him off.
“Save it,” Richard said coldly. “I don’t have time for your lies.”
Then, without another word, he turned on his heels and started walking away again.
Mr. Harrington stood frozen in place, his face burning with shame and anger.
He clenched his fists, watching as Richard disappeared into his car and drove off.
Richard hadn’t even spared him another glance.
And that only made Mr. Harrington seethe even more.
As the car sped down the road, Richard sat in silence, staring out the window.
His mind was filled with only one thought.
April.
And the children.
He had to know the truth.
Because no matter what had happened between them in the past…
He wasn’t ready to let another man have April as long as he was alive.
