Chapter 72 Where Is the USB Drive

Chapter 72 Where Is the USB Drive

As soon as she said this, Daisy immediately understood.

No wonder he had been so hostile toward her from the moment he arrived - he'd probably heard all those rumors going around the company before he came.

Oh right, and at that industry summit, Lynn had been tirelessly spreading those rumors about her. This Noah must have caught wind of them too.

And he believed them.

Daisy looked at him and burst out laughing.

Noah frowned, thinking to himself - what's so funny about this? Does this woman actually plan to seduce him?

He wasn't that shallow that he would fall for something like that.

But then he heard her say with a smile, "Mr. Monroe, you hate stupid people, I like intelligent people — we complement each other perfectly."

Noah felt annoyed but couldn't really say anything to that.

Daisy continued, "You just got here, you don't know me, you have opinions about me - that's totally normal."

"But the lab project is real, the data is real, and the results are real. Since you're here, let's work together to make this project successful. As for whether I'm the kind of idiot you hate..."

She paused, her smile deepening, "Time will tell."

With that, she went straight back to work, leaving Noah standing there alone.

Noah watched her retreating figure, his previously contemptuous expression slowly froze, transforming into something more wary.

This woman sure can keep her cool - she didn't even get angry at that. No wonder she caught Ethan's eye.

But whatever. He'd seen too many people like this - all talk, but when it came down to it, they had nothing.

Just like that woman.

He loved dealing with women like this, especially tearing off their masks and exposing their true faces.

In the following days, Noah continued doing things his own way.

He deliberately opposed Daisy, but he did complete the tasks she assigned very well - so perfectly that no one could find fault with them.

Except every time he submitted his work, he wore an expression that said, “this is so simple it’s beneath me.”

Daisy didn't get angry with him, just kept doing what she needed to do.

When Noah challenged her, she'd just smile, assign work as usual, and communicate when necessary.

People in the lab were worried at first, afraid the two would clash.

But later they realized Daisy simply didn't care. Noah would make his snide remarks, she'd act like she didn't hear them, and just keep doing her thing.

Amy asked her privately, "Ms. Hart, Noah treats you like that and you're not angry?"

Daisy smiled, "What's the point of being angry? As long as he does good work, right?"

Amy pursed her lips and said nothing more.

That afternoon, Daisy was reviewing the latest experimental data.

The project was progressing smoothly. She studied the lab report, carefully flipping through page by page, occasionally making a mark somewhere.

Noah walked by, his gaze lingering on her for a moment.

Putting on a show.

He thought to himself - does she even understand this data? There's a meeting later where she'll need to give specific guidance.

He simply set aside what he was doing and waited. If Daisy had nothing substantial to say at the meeting, he would definitely call her out, without showing her any mercy.

Just as Daisy finished the last page and was about to call everyone for the meeting, the office door suddenly burst open.

Shawn rushed straight in, face pale, eyes red, "Dais, finally found you!"

Daisy jumped in surprise and quickly stood up, "What's wrong?"

Shawn didn't explain, just grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the door. Daisy was completely confused but let herself be led.

Noah shook his head with a smirk.

Lucky her.

--

Not until they were outside the company gates did Shawn let go of her hand. She couldn't hold it together anymore and burst into tears.

"Dais, Marcus is missing! He was fine yesterday, but this morning, without leaving a single word, he just disappeared."

Daisy's heart tightened, "Can't you reach him?"

Shawn nodded, sobbing, "Dais, I'm so scared. I'm afraid something happened to him... I'm afraid he..."

Daisy gripped her hand, "Don't panic, take it slow. Think carefully - did he say anything before he left?"

Shawn shook her head.

"No, he didn't say anything. He never used to be like this. No matter where he went, he'd always tell me. Do you think he might be doing something dangerous? Could he already be..."

She couldn't continue, just cried.

Daisy didn't care about Marcus - honestly, whether this person lived or died had nothing to do with her. But seeing Shawn cry like this, she couldn't help feeling anxious too.

"Shawn, listen to me. Marcus must have something he needs to do. He didn't tell you because he doesn't want you involved."

"So the more frequent these incidents become, the more you need to protect yourself, understand?"

Shawn stared at her blankly.

Daisy continued, "He's with the Bennetts. You know better than me how complicated the Bennetts' affairs are."

"His disappearance might be their doing. If you run around looking for him and those people target you, what then? Where are your bodyguards?"

Shawn stammered, "I left in a rush, so..."

"You need to keep them with you, don't run around alone." Daisy paused, then added, "About Marcus, I'll try to think of something, but my reach is limited - I might not be able to offer much help."

Shawn looked at her, tears welling up again, "Dais..."

Daisy gently hugged her, "Don't cry, we'll find a way."

After seeing Shawn off, Daisy returned to the lab and sat at her desk for a long time.

Marcus had disappeared.

That man, carrying so many secrets, holding so much information, now suddenly missing... Somehow, Daisy immediately thought of that night at the gala, the unsettling way he'd looked at her.

Daisy felt a chill run down her spine.

Because of this little incident, Daisy was distracted all day, which gave Noah the chance to catch her mistakes and mock her thoroughly.

Daisy didn't bother responding. That evening, she even left an hour early.

Maybe it was paranoia kicking in, but she felt that not only was Shawn in danger - she herself might get dragged into trouble too.

Just thinking about it made her sigh. Back in that parking garage, she should have just left him there!

The lab wasn't far from her apartment, just a few minutes by car, but her car was broken and not yet fixed, so she had to walk back.

The sun was setting, and streetlights along the road lit up one by one.

This stretch of road was almost deserted, with only the occasional car passing by.

As Daisy walked, she suddenly felt something was off.

There seemed to be footsteps behind her.

Her heart skipped a beat. She stopped and looked back.

No one.

Just the shadows cast by streetlights and the occasional sound of dogs barking in the distance.

She shook her head and kept walking, her pace unconsciously quickening.

Reaching her apartment building, she took out her keys to unlock the door.

Suddenly! A hand reached from behind and covered her mouth!

Another arm locked around her neck, dragging her whole body backward!

Daisy's pupils contracted sharply. She struggled desperately, but the person was too strong - she couldn't break free.

She was dragged into the darkness beside the entrance and pressed against the wall.

A cold blade touched her neck.

"That USB drive I gave you before - where is it? Hand it over!"
