Chapter 70 Just Giving It to Her for Nothing?

Chapter 70 Just Giving It to Her for Nothing?

So legally speaking, that property wasn't hers yet.

She bit her lip, hesitated for a long time, then picked up her phone and sent Vincent a message.

[Are you free? I'd like to talk about the divorce.]

Usually, Vincent wouldn't reply to her messages quickly, so after sending it, she put her phone aside, ready to get on with her own things.

But just as she set it down, she heard her phone buzz.

Vincent had actually replied right away.

[3 PM, at the café where we signed the agreement last time]

Daisy glanced at the time—two hours until 3 PM.

He was in a hurry.

Well, of course—the divorce was to make room for Vanessa, and Vincent had always been devoted when it came to anything involving Vanessa.

At 3 PM sharp, Daisy pushed open the café door.

Vincent was already there, sitting in a corner booth.

He wore a suit with his tie neatly done—clearly he had just come from the office.

When he saw her come in, his gaze lingered on her for a second, then moved away.

"Sit."

Daisy sat across from him and ordered an Americano.

She'd thought about what to say the whole way here, but now face to face, she didn't quite know how to get the words out.

They both sat in silence, looking at each other for a moment, until Vincent spoke first. "What's wrong? Having second thoughts?"

His tone was casual, but there seemed to be a hint of amusement in his expression.

Daisy pressed her lips together and said carefully, "No, I know the process is still going through; it's just..."

She took a deep breath. "I was wondering... could we speed things up a bit?"

Vincent looked puzzled. "Speed things up?"

"Yeah." Daisy nodded. "I don't really understand the legal stuff, but if it's possible, I'd like to get the paperwork done as soon as possible."

Vincent looked somewhat unhappy. "Why the sudden rush?"

Daisy hesitated, then decided to tell the truth.

"My uncle's project ran into some problems, and he needs money. I saw in the divorce agreement that you gave me a property—the one downtown—it's worth quite a bit."

"I want to use that property as collateral to help him get through this."

Vincent's hand, which had been stirring his spoon, stopped. "That's the only reason?"

Vincent had some memory of that property—when the development was being built, he'd specifically kept it because of the good location.

When he gave it to her, he hadn't thought much about it, just felt that after a divorce, she should at least have some security.

He never expected she'd turn around and use it as collateral, and for someone else at that.

"Are you sure?" Vincent's voice sounded strange. "Not to look down on you, but with your current income, it would take you at least twenty years to save up enough to buy that property."

Daisy's expression stiffened slightly. Ignoring the mockery and sarcasm in his words, she said calmly, "I know that property is very valuable."

"But my uncle helped me a lot back then. I already felt terrible about not being able to help him last time. Now that he's in trouble again, I can't just ignore him."

Vincent didn't say anything, just stared at her steadily.

Looking at her calm eyes, a feeling he couldn't quite describe suddenly welled up inside him.

When Daisy brought up the past, he couldn't help but remember too.

Back then, shortly after Daisy had married him, she'd carefully mentioned a few times that her uncle's project had great prospects and hoped he could help out.

What had he said at the time?

He'd forgotten, but he must have mocked her and dismissed the investment opportunity.

Later, Simon's project fell through, and Daisy didn't say anything—just quietly swallowed it all down. So now she was trying to make up for that regret?

Vincent picked up his coffee, took a sip, then set the cup down.

"The divorce paperwork is complicated, but the property transfer is simple. I can transfer that property to you right now."

Daisy was stunned. "Right now?"

"Since you need it urgently, there's no need to wait for the process to finish. I'll have my lawyer prepare the documents now. We can do it today."

Daisy didn't know what to say for a moment. She wanted to say thank you, but it felt inappropriate, and Vincent had already taken out his phone to make a call.

"Hello, prepare the transfer documents for the downtown property. Yes, the one in the divorce agreement. I need it now. Send it to my office."

After hanging up, he looked at Daisy.

"Let's go, to my office."

--

By the time they arrived at the office, the lawyer was already waiting at Vincent's office door, holding a stack of documents.

Seeing Vincent, he immediately approached. "Mr. Black, the documents are ready."

Vincent took them, flipped through them, nodded, and walked into the office.

Daisy followed behind him, feeling somewhat dazed.

Half an hour ago she'd been sitting in the café, anxious and wondering how to bring it up.

Now she was sitting in Vincent's office, about to sign and get the property.

When had Vincent ever been this accommodating with her?

Vincent pushed the documents in front of her. "Take a look. If there's no problem, sign."

Daisy took them and glanced through. Seeing nothing wrong, she signed.

After signing, she looked up with a smile and said sincerely, "Thank you."

Vincent seemed to pause for a moment. He looked like he didn't want to engage with her much, saying curtly, "No need to thank me."

Daisy tactfully took her leave. "I'll go now."

Unusually, Vincent insisted on seeing her to the door, and before she left, he added, "If you need anything, contact me anytime."

"Okay."

She hadn't taken two steps when Vincent's voice followed her again: "When you have time, come back and see Luna."

Daisy's steps paused. "Okay."

--

That evening, at the Blacks' villa.

Vanessa was leaning on the sofa, holding a glass of red wine, in a good mood.

She'd gone to the hospital for a checkup today, and the doctor said she was fine now—just needed to rest more. Vincent had felt bad for her and stayed with her all afternoon, only leaving before dinner.

She took a sip of wine, the corners of her mouth curving up.

What was Daisy compared to her? In Vincent's heart, she was ultimately the most important one.

Vincent pushed the door open, carrying a document folder.

Vanessa put down her wine glass and went to greet him with a smile. "Vince, you're back? Have you eaten?"

Vincent nodded and casually placed the folder on the table.

"I have." He glanced at the wine glass on the table. "Why are you drinking?"

Vanessa said softly, "Just had a couple sips, drinking for fun."

Vincent didn't say much, just told her to get some rest, then went upstairs.

Vanessa watched him leave, her gaze falling on the document folder. Curious, she opened it to take a look.

Inside was a property transfer document, clearly stating that the downtown property worth tens of millions had been transferred to Daisy.

Vanessa stared at the document, her expression immediately darkening.

Just... just gave her a property for nothing?

Didn't he say he didn't love her? Why would he give her something so valuable?

She remembered that day at the restaurant, the way Vincent had looked at Daisy, and how when wine spilled on her, he'd handed her his car keys without a word and naturally helped wipe off the wine.

All these things suddenly put her on guard.
