Chapter 66 Actually a Bit Angry

Chapter 66 Actually a Bit Angry

Two days later, at the Collins family villa.

Night fell, and the estate blazed with light.

Luxury cars filed in one after another, parking at the fountain plaza in front of the main building. Guests in elegant attire walked into the hall in small groups.

Vincent came too.

He hadn't wanted to come—after all, there was a pile of work at the company, and Vanessa was still in the hospital and needed care.

But the Collins family had business dealings with the Blacks, and it was Old Mr. Collins himself who had sent the invitation. He really couldn't refuse, so he figured he'd just make an appearance, stay for a bit, and leave.

He walked into the hall, and someone immediately came up to greet him.

"Mr. Black, this way please."

He nodded and followed them inside.

Along the way, quite a few people greeted him. He nodded back to each one, but couldn't help but feel a bit distracted.

Would she be coming?

She probably would, right? Shawn was her best friend.

His gaze searched through the crowd, but he didn't see that familiar figure.

"Hey, did you guys hear? Mr. Black got divorced." Someone whispered from some corner.

Vincent happened to overhear it clearly, and couldn't help frowning.

"Really?"

"Of course it's true, it's all over our circle."

"So Mrs. Black... oh wait, ex-wife, what was her name again? Daisy, right? I said all along she'd eventually get kicked out by the Blacks. See, what did I tell you?"

"Yeah, at her daughter's birthday party back then, she wasn't even wearing a proper dress, looking all shabby. Compared to Vanessa, well..."

Several people laughed quietly.

"Right? How could someone like that keep Mr. Black?"

"If you ask me, they should've divorced ages ago. I really can't understand how the Blacks, with all their wealth and status, would marry someone like Daisy who's so completely out of place."

"I heard she got pregnant to trap him. Really feel bad for Mr. Black, putting up with it all these years..."

Those people mocked her without restraint.

Hearing this, Vincent's hand gripping the wine glass tightened slightly.

Suddenly, the hall went quiet for a moment.

Vincent found it strange and couldn't help looking up, following everyone's gaze.

At the entrance, a figure in red was slowly walking in.

Vincent's gaze jumped.

It was her.

Daisy wore a red velvet gown. The dress was perfectly tailored, highlighting her slender waist and elegant curves.

Her long hair was loosely pinned up, with a few strands falling by her ears. She wore a perfectly chosen diamond necklace around her neck, making her whole person shine brilliantly—like a flame in the crowd, a suddenly bright star.

Incredibly dazzling, incredibly eye-catching, impossible to look away from.

The entire room went quiet for a few seconds, then burst into whispers.

"Who is that? She looks like a movie star."

"That's Daisy, Vincent's ex-wife. You saw her last time—don't you recognize her?"

"Oh my god, that's her? She's completely different!"

"She's so beautiful..."

Vincent stood there, watching her walk in step by step.

She had changed so much that in just a few days, Vincent almost didn't recognize her.

This change wasn't in her appearance, but in—her aura.

That calm, elegant, unshakeable composure.

He had never seen her like this before.

In front of him, she had always been quiet, cautious, even somewhat humble. He thought that was just who she was.

But now he knew—she wasn't.

She had only become that way in front of him.

The real her was this radiant.

His fingers unconsciously tightened.

"Ms. Hart!"

Daisy had just finished greeting Old Mr. Collins and was planning to say hello to Shawn before slipping away, when she was unexpectedly called out.

She looked over in surprise and saw a young man walking over quickly, his face full of smiles.

"Ms. Hart, I'm Jason Montgomery from Montgomery Global Industries. We met at the summit last time, do you remember?"

Daisy glanced at him and nodded politely: "Mr. Montgomery, hello."

Jason's eyes lit up, and he immediately handed over his business card: "Ms. Hart, I was wondering if I could take you out for coffee sometime? I'm very interested in your nanorobot project."

As soon as he finished speaking, someone else came over.

"Ms. Hart, I'm Brandon Hartwell. You might not know me, but my father is William Hartwell—he has extensive partnerships with Reed Corporation. I was hoping we could chat sometime?"

--

It was like opening some kind of floodgate. She'd just finish dealing with one person, and another would come over.

She rarely attended this kind of event and wasn't very good at handling it. Not wanting to seem rude, she could only grit her teeth and make small talk.

She had no idea that in a corner not far away, Vincent was watching this scene, his expression growing darker and darker.

"Dais!"

Shawn's voice came from outside the crowd.

Daisy breathed a huge sigh of relief and quickly walked toward the voice.

Shawn was holding a man's arm, also walking toward her with a smile.

The man wore a black suit, stood tall and straight, with a stern face and a sharp look in his eyes.

His gaze swept over the crowd like an unsheathed blade, making people uncomfortable.

Marcus.

Daisy looked at him and nodded slightly.

"Mr. Bennett."

Marcus's gaze fell on her, then paused, as if examining her, or thinking about something.

Daisy felt like something sharp had scraped her throat. She got goosebumps all over, and the smile on her face almost couldn't hold.

But Shawn was completely oblivious. She let go of Marcus's hand and grabbed Daisy's: "Wow, Dais, you look absolutely stunning tonight! Honestly, I almost didn't recognize you!"

Daisy smiled and playfully tapped her nose: "You too."

Shawn tilted her head proudly: "Of course, I'm the star of the show tonight!"

She held Daisy's hand and chattered on about the evening's arrangements.

Daisy listened, but her gaze unconsciously glanced toward Marcus, though he had already looked away.

Halfway through the party, Daisy found an opportunity to pull Shawn into a corner.

"Shawn, listen to me." She lowered her voice, "How far have things gone between you and Marcus?"

Shawn was confused by her serious expression: "What's wrong?"

Daisy hesitated, but still said: "Just be careful around him."

Shawn blinked: "Careful about what?"

Daisy looked at her innocent face and sighed: "I can't quite put my finger on it, but he gives me a really bad feeling. He kept staring at me just now. You don't know what that felt like—like being held at knifepoint."

But Shawn laughed: "Oh, you're overthinking it! He's just like that, looks cold at everyone. I think it's probably a professional habit from his family background. Once you spend more time with him, you'll see he's actually really nice, just doesn't talk much. He's actually very gentle."

By the end, her cheeks were already flushed with two patches of red.

Daisy silently sighed to herself.

No one noticed that not far away, Marcus was holding a wine glass, his gaze resting on them, his eyes narrowing with a flash of cold, sharp light.
