Chapter 138 Daisy's Frankness
Vincent caught the expression on Daisy's face and found it quite interesting.
It had been a while since Daisy had shown such an expression in front of him.
Just as Vincent was about to say something more, Daisy spoke first, "I'm heading upstairs now."
"Wait."
Vincent stopped her directly.
Daisy looked at him, puzzled, clearly waiting for him to continue.
"What is it?"
Vincent cleared his throat to cover up and said slowly, "Luna's been missing you a lot lately. How about I send her over to stay with you for a few days?"
Without a second thought, Daisy refused directly, "Better not."
Vincent hadn't expected Daisy to refuse so flatly and was caught off guard for a moment.
After all, the old Daisy always put their daughter first and would never have refused so decisively like today.
Vincent couldn't help but think of that phone call from the servant at home. Could her refusal be because of that man?
Vincent hadn't sent anyone to investigate yet, so he didn't know who that man was, but now, it was hard for Vincent not to connect these two things.
"Why not?"
Vincent's mouth moved faster than his brain, asking the question.
Daisy hadn't expected Vincent to press further. She paused, instinctively looking at him. The moment their eyes met, Daisy just smiled lightly and said casually, "I've been pretty busy lately and might not have time to look after her. You have people to help on your end, which is more convenient."
Vincent didn't know what to say. In this situation, if he said too much, it would seem like he had some ulterior motive.
Even though he felt uncomfortable inside, he could only suppress his inner thoughts.
"Okay, I'm leaving now."
After that, Vincent said nothing more and left directly.
As Vincent turned to leave, Daisy also turned and went upstairs.
At noon, she had just finished lunch when she received a call from Simon.
"Daisy, are you free right now?"
Hearing Simon's somewhat anxious voice, Daisy's heart couldn't help but sink, "Yes, what's wrong?"
"Your Brenda isn't feeling well. Can you come back now?"
Daisy's heart jumped at these words. Without thinking about anything else, she quickly said, "I'm coming over now. What's wrong with her? Did you go to the hospital?"
Simon sounded somewhat helpless, "Brenda won't go to the hospital."
Daisy's brows furrowed immediately. She said in a serious tone, "Wait for me to come back."
With that, Daisy hung up the phone, didn't even change her clothes, grabbed her bag, and went downstairs.
By the time she arrived at Brenda's house, twenty minutes had passed.
As soon as Daisy got out of the car, she rushed straight to Brenda's house, her voice full of anxiety, "Brenda!"
As soon as she entered, she saw Brenda lying on the sofa, not looking very well.
Before Brenda could answer, Daisy quickly said, "Brenda, what's wrong? Let's go to the hospital right now!"
As Daisy spoke, she was about to help Brenda up, but Brenda pressed down on her hand.
Brenda sighed lightly and said slowly, "I'm fine, don't listen to your uncle making such a big fuss!"
Daisy disagreed with Brenda's words, "How is this making a fuss? If you're not feeling well, we definitely need to see a doctor!"
"I just had low blood sugar earlier. I've taken my medicine now and I'm much better. Don't worry."
Brenda comforted Daisy, but Daisy didn't believe her and looked at Simon.
Receiving Daisy's gaze, Simon nodded gently, "I was scared earlier too, but she's taken her medicine now."
Only then did Daisy breathe a slight sigh of relief, "That's good. Brenda, you need to be careful. This isn't something to joke about."
Brenda smiled and nodded at Daisy's concern, "I know."
After chatting for a while, Brenda seemed to remember something and looked at Daisy, "How are Vince and Luna doing lately? I haven't seen them in a while."
Daisy hadn't expected Brenda to ask this question. She instinctively glanced at Simon and saw him looking like he wanted to say something but hesitated.
Daisy took a deep breath, quickly thought of a reason, cleared her throat and said, "They've been doing well. Vince has been pretty busy lately, so he hasn't had time to come with me."
Originally, Daisy had planned to tell Brenda about her and Vincent's upcoming divorce last time, but for various reasons, she hadn't.
With Brenda's condition today, she definitely couldn't say anything.
Otherwise, if Brenda heard about it and something happened, that would be trouble.
Whether it was Daisy's imagination or not, she felt that after she finished speaking, Simon seemed to let out a deep sigh.
Then, Daisy understood where Simon's sigh came from.
"Really? How come when your uncle just called him, Vince didn't say that?"
Brenda's calm statement made Daisy's expression change instantly. She quickly looked at Simon, who nodded slightly.
This confirmed what Brenda had said.
Before Daisy could speak, Brenda continued, "Actually, I felt something was off last time. What's really going on between you two?"
As if afraid Daisy would have concerns and not dare tell her, Brenda continued, "Just tell me. It's okay. Brenda isn't the type to faint at the drop of a hat."
Meeting Brenda's gaze, emotions suddenly surged in Daisy's heart. She took a deep breath, mentally prepared herself, and said directly, "He and I, we're getting divorced."
Although Brenda had already guessed this in her heart, hearing Daisy's answer still made her heart skip a beat.
Seeing Daisy like this, Brenda's heart ached. She reached out to stroke Daisy's head and said slowly, "Last time, were you trying to tell me about this?"
Brenda remembered Daisy's hesitation last time.
Daisy nodded, "Yes."
"Actually, Brenda's not that fragile. You could have told me earlier. If you had said something sooner, you wouldn't have had to bear all this alone..."
Hearing Brenda's words and knowing that Brenda truly cared about her, all the grievances from this period seemed to find an outlet. Daisy's eyes reddened.
But she still held back from showing her emotions in front of Brenda. She smiled lightly and instead comforted Brenda, "It's okay, Brenda. The hardest time has passed. The projects I'm working on now are all successful, and I can manage the finances. I feel much better than when I was with Vincent."
Daisy was telling the truth. Indeed, her current life situation felt so much better than before. Everything was working toward what she wanted.
She didn't have to think about emotional matters or consider family issues—she just needed to be herself.
This way of living seemed to help her find herself again.
So, she wasn't too upset about it.
