Chapter 117 It Is Her Child

Chapter 117 It Is Her Child

Vincent snapped back to reality and laughed, "What do I have to be reluctant about? I'm just happy for her seeing them together."

"I thought you'd be happy for her too."

Vanessa snorted, "Well, I can't be happy about it. I have eyes, I can see that from the moment you saw her today, you've been staring at her the whole time!"

Vincent stayed silent, a thought dawning on him—had he been watching her this whole time?

"Sorry." He lowered his head slightly, "Maybe I do care about her, but definitely not for the reason you think. After all, we were together for six years, and during those six years she never did anything wrong, so..."

"So?"

"So I hope she'll be happy." Vincent put his arm around Vanessa's waist and sighed helplessly, "Let's go."

Vanessa didn't push it further.

She was a smart woman. She didn’t want to take too much from him—not his guilt, not his responsibility, and not that faint, lingering affection.

The snow was getting heavier. Under the streetlights everything was white, and there was hardly anyone left on the streets.

Felix drove Daisy to Shawn's place. She got out of the car, waved at him, and turned to go inside.

Felix remained in the car, quietly watching as she slipped behind the door and out of sight. He sat there for a while before starting the car and driving away.

The following days passed quickly. The lab project entered a critical phase, and Daisy worked late every day.

She did remember the auction at the end of the month though. She asked Ethan for half a day off in advance. Ethan didn't ask what she was doing. He just asked a few questions about the project progress and let her go.

On the day of the auction, Daisy checked the weather and put on a down jacket, a cotton hat and a mask, fully gearing up in front of the mirror.

Shawn was holding a cup of hot cocoa, leaning against the doorframe watching her, and said, "Are you going to an auction or a construction site to work with steel bars?"

Daisy rolled her eyes at her, "It's so cold. There's no need to dress up, right?"

Shawn shook her head and smiled, "You really don't care, do you? Looking like this in front of the mistress who stole your husband and your pursuer. Whatever, suit yourself."

That's what she said, but before Daisy left, she made her carry her million-dollar white crocodile bag - A globally limited-edition bag—something you could only obtain after purchasing a range of other items—meant to lend her a sense of presence.

Daisy had arranged to meet Felix, and they would meet up at the auction house. She was afraid of traffic, so she left early. When she got there, Felix hadn't arrived yet.

She didn't want to freeze outside, so she went straight in.

The heating was strong inside the auction house. She took off her down jacket and hung it on her arm. Suddenly wanting to use the restroom, she headed that way and unexpectedly ran into someone familiar in the hallway.

Noah was standing at a corner in the corridor, talking to someone.

The person had their back to her. She could vaguely see it was a woman, wearing an evening dress with an updo hairstyle, showing her slender neck.

Daisy walked a few steps closer before she could see the person's profile clearly.

It was actually Vanessa.

She paused, hesitating whether to go over, but Noah had already seen her.

"Ms. Hart?"

Daisy nodded at him as a greeting.

Vanessa turned around. Seeing Daisy, the smile on her face faded, "Ms. Hart, what a coincidence—to run into you here of all places."

That was an interesting way to put it. She remembered it was clearly Felix who suggested going to the auction and she agreed. How had Vanessa twisted it so that it sounded as though she were some ghost, lingering and haunting them?

"Indeed a coincidence. You just said what I was going to say." Daisy said flatly, "Excuse me, you're in the way."

Noah frowned, "Ms. Hart, I admit—you do possess a certain level of expertise in your field, but that's not a reason for you to target Miss Drake, much less a reason for you to interfere in other people's relationships!"

He looked as though he wanted to unleash every ounce of dissatisfaction he’d been holding back.

Daisy simply found it amusing and couldn’t help but speak, "Whose relationship am I interfering with?"

"You know it yourself!"

"I really don't know. I'd like to ask Mr. Monroe to enlighten me!"

Noah said, "Miss Drake and Mr. Black have a great relationship. Wherever they go, you follow. What's the point?"

Daisy laughed in anger, "If that's what you call interfering in someone's relationship, then can I say Mr. Monroe that you have a crush on me?"

"Otherwise, why do you follow me wherever I go?"

"You!" Noah was speechless, his stern face turning red.

When he didn’t respond, Daisy pressed on. “Noah, I always thought you were sharp-tongued, but still smart and sensible."

"Now it seems you're not much smarter than Anne!"

Anne was Shawn's pet pig. When she bought it, they said it was a breed that would never grow big, but now it was already over 200 pounds. She specially built a house for it and hired someone to take care of it.

Although Noah didn't know who Anne was, he could at least tell Daisy was calling him stupid.

Noah's expression changed several times. Before he could speak, he heard someone calling from behind, "Ms. Hart!"

Felix walked over quickly, "I've been looking for you forever. So you're here. What's going on? I could hear you guys talking from far away."

Daisy shook her head, "Nothing. I'm going to the restroom. You go wait for me at our seats."

"Okay."

Felix naturally took the down jacket from her hand, glanced at Noah, and said nothing.

Noah walked away with a dark expression.

The auction hall was large, with rows of seats. The auction stage was in front, and the guest seating was behind.

Daisy and Felix's seats were in the middle-left area.

Vincent and Vanessa's seats were on the right side, a few rows away, just in-between.

Luna was sitting right next to Vincent, wearing a princess dress with a diamond hair clip, looking around from her seat.

"Daddy, where's Mommy? Is she here yet?"

Just then, Noah found his seat. He looked over and was sitting next to Vincent, with only two seats between them.

Hearing Luna say that, he instinctively looked over, somewhat surprised.

He didn't expect Vincent to already have a child, and such a big one. Was it Vanessa's?

That's not right. This little girl looked only five or six years old. Wasn't Vanessa still abroad back then?

Noah casually said, "I just saw her at the restroom, right behind me. She should be coming over now."

Luna's eyes immediately lit up, "You know my mommy?"

Noah smiled, saying fondly, "Of course, your mommy and I are good friends. She's very pretty, isn't she?"

Luna immediately said happily, "Yes! My mommy is very pretty!"

As they were talking, Daisy and Felix found their seats one after the other and sat down. She cheered and waved in that direction, "Mommy!"

Daisy didn't see her, but Vanessa came over at that moment, blocking her view completely.

"Luna, sit down, don't make noise." She smiled gently, then looked at Noah and said, "What a coincidence, you're sitting here. We should have walked together just now. I spent forever looking for my seat."

Noah nodded. His doubts dispersed. It seemed this little girl was Vanessa's child. She probably went abroad after having the baby.
