Chapter 105 What Do You Want to Eat?
Daisy looked at the water bottle and hesitated for a moment.
She didn't want to take his water, but she was really thirsty. Daisy's hand trembled slightly as she took it and drank.
"Does Luna want some water?"
Luna shook her head and patted the small water bottle she was carrying. "I just drank some!"
Daisy handed the bottle back.
Vincent took it, screwed the cap back on, and put it back in his bag. When he returned it, whether intentionally or not, the tips of his fingers grazed hers.
This time Daisy also pretended nothing had happened and pulled Luna forward.
The first activity in the afternoon was basketball.
This was purely a competition between parents. Each class would send out a few parents to gather together for a friendly match, also to let the kids who had been running and jumping all morning take a break.
Luna naturally urged Vincent to sign up, pulling his hand and saying, "Dad, you go! Mom doesn't know how to play!"
Daisy had actually wanted to sign up.
In fact, she was quite good at basketball. In college, she had even joined the basketball club, and with her athletic background, her three-pointers were very accurate.
But looking at Luna's bright, sparkling eyes, she swallowed her words.
Come to think of it, she hadn't played in a long time and was out of practice. It would be embarrassing if she messed up.
Vincent was someone who exercised regularly anyway, so playing basketball was no problem for him. He immediately agreed to his daughter's request and signed up.
Then he took off his jacket and handed it to Daisy.
Daisy took it and casually tossed it on the grass nearby.
Vincent raised his eyebrows. Usually, when Daisy took his clothes, she would always hang them up carefully, or if there was nowhere to hang them, she would hold them preciously in her arms.
But he didn't say anything and turned to walk onto the court.
Under the jacket was a black short-sleeved shirt, somewhat tight-fitting, perfectly outlining his solid arms. His chest muscles stretched the shirt, while his waist looked slim, with clearly defined abs.
Standing among that group of parents, he was like a sleek black panther among chickens and ducks, particularly eye-catching.
With a whistle blow.
The people on the court started moving. Vincent was in the forward position. He quickly grabbed the ball, then dribbled past defenders, took three steps for a layup, and the basketball traced a beautiful arc through the air, landing steadily in the hoop.
The movements were smooth and flowing, all in one go.
The whole process took less than three minutes. Luna was on her feet in the stands, standing on her chair, screaming his name at the top of her lungs., "Go Dad! Dad's the best!"
Daisy smiled slightly.
Watching him running on the court, in a trance, the scene overlapped with memories from years ago.
It was during a friendly match at her university. Back then, she hadn't joined the basketball club yet and wasn't a cheerleader either—she had just come along with a friend to watch the game.
She had been watching idly, half-present, when Vincent appeared.
Daisy still remembered that he wore a white jersey that day, cutting across the court like a current of wind.
When he dunked, the whole venue erupted in cheers.
He wiped his sweat, looked up, and his gaze casually swept across the stands. Unexpectedly, Daisy's eyes met his, and her heart immediately skipped a beat.
She had never felt anything like it before a sudden, disorienting brightness, as if the whole stadium had narrowed to just him.
Later on, she married him. Although it was an accident, she had been quietly grateful she had married the man who made her heart stop the first time she saw him.
But later, it took her six years to understand that marriage couldn't be sustained by just a few heart-fluttering moments.
Marriage was a slow burn , it consumed everything.
You throw all your passion, emotions, even your life's pursuits and dreams into that piece of paper, slowly wearing them down.
Today, watching him running on the court, Daisy suddenly remembered that young man sweating on the court again.
The same profile. The same pull.
But this time, she wouldn't foolishly fall for it again.
"Your daughter has such a good relationship with her dad."
While she was lost in thought, a mom nearby came over and said to Daisy with a smile.
She was Luna's classmate's parent. Over the years, Daisy had always seen her when attending various school activities, so she was somewhat familiar to Daisy.
Daisy nodded. "Yeah."
That mom glanced at her, with some curiosity in her eyes, but she didn't say it out loud.
She just couldn't help thinking to herself that while the daughter had a good relationship with her dad, this mother seemed to have a barrier between herself and the father-daughter pair, like an outsider ever since the activity started.
On the court, the competition remained intense.
Vincent scored another basket, and Luna screamed with excitement, practically shouting herself hoarse.
Hearing the sound, he glanced over here, his gaze lingering on Daisy for a moment, while Daisy lowered her head, pretending to look at her phone.
With a whistle blow, Vincent's class won.
Luna ran over and hugged his leg. "Dad, you were amazing! You're the MVP of the whole game!"
Vincent bent down and picked her up. Luna wrapped her arms around his neck, smiling so hard her eyes curved into crescents.
After the game, the activities were pretty much over.
Next was the photo-taking session.
"Let's take a family photo," Vincent suddenly suggested.
Daisy had no strong feeling about it either way, but when even Luna said...
Vincent took out a camera and tripod from his bag, set up the camera, and they found a suitable spot to stand.
Luna's cheeks were flushed, her whole face bright and open.
Daisy stood behind her daughter, not aligned with Vincent. Vincent glanced at her but said nothing.
Just as they were about to press the shutter, Daisy's phone suddenly rang. She apologized, took it out, and saw it was Ethan calling.
"Daisy, there's a company dinner tonight. Are you coming?"
Daisy made a small sound and asked, "What time?"
"Six o'clock, same place as usual."
Daisy checked the time—it was already 4:30.
From the school to the dinner location would take at least an hour.
She hesitated. "I..."
"Let's go eat after we finish taking photos." Whether he had heard or not, he turned to Daisy. 'What do you feel like eating?
Daisy was momentarily speechless.
She didn't quite know what to say. Luna, hearing this, shook Daisy's arm and said coquettishly, "Mom, let's go have a nice meal together. We haven't eaten out together in so long!"
Daisy looked down at her, her heart softening a bit.
Before she could speak, Luna jumped in, "I want BBQ, the one I had with Auntie Vanessa last time!"
Vincent pinched her cheek. "That place is too far. We'd get home after midnight tonight."
Then he looked at Daisy. "Listen to Mom."
