Chapter 315 An Unusual Feeling

Chapter 315 An Unusual Feeling

It was hard to tell how much time had passed before Allegra knocked on the door.

"Ms. Stone, if you don't get up now, you're going to be late."

Allegra's voice sounded from outside the door, and only then did Alaric stop.

But he made no move to let her go. Instead, he held her tightly and buried his head in her neck, his voice low and hoarse with desire.

"Cordelia."

"I'm really happy right now."

He was happy that Cordelia hadn't thrown away the bracelet.

He hadn't felt this happy in years. At this moment, if Cordelia had asked for his life, he would have given it without hesitation.

Cordelia stared up at the ceiling, her eyes wide open. After a few seconds of silence, she spoke in a slightly hoarse voice.

"Alaric."

Alaric responded softly, "I'm here."

Cordelia bit her lip lightly and said,

"If you don't let go, I'm going to be late for work."

Alaric had expected Cordelia to say something more, but that was all she said. He paused, a hint of disappointment flickering across his face, but eventually he got up and let Cordelia go.

Cordelia quickly sat up as well. As she pushed back the covers, the straps of her slip dress slipped off her shoulders.

From where he stood, Alaric could see the pale expanse of her skin.

Cordelia quickly covered her chest with one hand and looked up at the man standing by the bed, his eyes gleaming faintly.

She clenched her teeth and said sharply.

"Get out of here."

Alaric cleared his throat and walked out of Cordelia's bedroom.

After washing up, Cordelia went downstairs.

Donald and the others were already seated in the dining room waiting for her.

She walked over and sat down, her cheeks still tinged with a faint blush.

Alaric looked at her with a smile.

Cordelia glanced at him before taking her seat. Between last night's insomnia and the energy she'd just spent struggling earlier, Cordelia felt utterly exhausted.

She sat listlessly in her chair, and Donald looked at her with concern and asked,

"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

Cordelia's face was very red. Could she have a fever?

As he spoke, Donald reached out and pressed the back of his hand gently against Cordelia's forehead.

Her temperature felt perfectly normal.

Not wanting her father to worry, Cordelia forced herself to perk up and replied with a smile.

"I just didn't sleep well last night."

She picked up her spoon and lowered her head and began eating her oatmeal.

Alaric looked at her and said seriously.

"If you really didn't sleep well, just stay home and rest today."

Cordelia shook her head without hesitation.

"There's a meeting at the hospital today. As long as I don't have to do surgery, it's fine."

Seeing how insistent she was, Alaric didn't try to persuade her any further.

Donald nodded. Noticing that Cordelia seemed to have forgotten about skipping dinner at home, he brought it up.

"If I remember correctly, today is Hannah's birthday."

"Isn't she planning to take you to dinner?"

When Donald mentioned it, Cordelia remembered and quickly said.

"She is. I won't be home for dinner tonight."

Donald nodded and continued,

"Where is she taking you to eat?"

Cordelia replied in a soft voice. "She said we're taking a yacht to Sunrise City."

Donald gave a slight nod before turning his gaze to Alaric. "Alaric, just come straight back after work."

Alaric got Donald's signal and nodded, "Okay, Mr. Stone."

Since they were heading to Sunrise City, there was only one dock they could depart from. He could ask Robert to make a few discreet inquiries and find out the yacht's route.

After breakfast, Cordelia and Alaric left the living room side by side.

Cordelia was about to get into her car when Alaric pulled her back and said softly.

"Ride in my car today."

Cordelia didn't refuse. She nodded and got into the car with Alaric.

With Robert behind the wheel, Cordelia finally allowed herself to relax. Sitting in the back seat, she kept nodding off.

Seeing this, Alaric reached out and gently guided her head onto his shoulder.

Cordelia briefly opened her eyes, but she was too tired to move, so she continued leaning against him.

She didn't fall asleep, but resting there with her eyes closed felt far more comfortable.

Alaric looked down at the woman leaning on his shoulder, the smile on his lips was almost impossible to hide.

When they arrived at the hospital, Cordelia slowly opened her eyes. Alaric opened the car door and got out, reaching out to help her.

The two of them headed to the office together. After getting everything arranged, they removed Alaric's stitches.

Another doctor removed Alaric's stitches while Cordelia stood by his side.

During the procedure, Alaric's left hand gripped Cordelia's waist tightly, his head buried against Cordelia's chest.

Looking down at the man in her arms, Cordelia couldn't help but feel that he was pretending a little.

She felt somewhat embarrassed.

The doctor who was removing the stitches also looked embarrassed.

Afraid of hurting Alaric, the doctor proceeded with extreme care.

After finishing the procedure, the doctor quietly excused himself.

Cordelia looked down at the man who was still holding her tightly and said softly.

"The stitches are already out. Aren't you going to let go?"

Only then did Alaric loosen his grip.

Cordelia bent down to bandage his wound and carefully explained the aftercare instructions.

He had just had his stitches removed and couldn't get the wound wet yet—at least not for another two or three days.

Alaric listened carefully, looking up at Cordelia as he said,

"I have a question."

Seeing the seriousness in his eyes, Cordelia thought he wanted to ask something about the wound.

"Go ahead, ask your question"

Alaric gazed at Cordelia intently, a trace of worry in his eyes.

"Can I still come to the Stone Manor for meals from now on?"

Cordelia hadn't expected that question. She froze for a moment before replying softly.

"For that, you’ll need my father’s approval."

Hearing this, Alaric chuckled softly.

"I'm just afraid you won't let me ask for permission."

Cordelia raised an eyebrow and began putting away her tools.

"This afternoon I'm going straight there in Hannah's car. My dad said you should come to our house for dinner, so remember to go."

Alaric responded softly, "I also have a gathering tonight."

Hearing this, Cordelia replied softly,

"Then you should let my dad know."

Alaric nodded in response, "Okay."

While they spoke, Cordelia had already put away her tools. Noticing that Alaric still hadn’t stood up to leave, she said.

"Aren't you supposed to be at the office? Why are you still here?"

Hearing her words, Alaric finally rose and said gently.

"I'm heading to the office now to earn a living for you and the baby."

Cordelia let out a soft snort without responding.

Alaric smiled faintly and walked away.

Seeing Alaric come out, Robert immediately drove the car to the hospital entrance.

Robert had alreadydiscovered the route of Hannah’s birthday party. After Alaric got in the car, Robert immediately reported in a low voice.

"Gabriel Harris, the Harris family heir, arrived in Shadowpine yesterday. He's organizing an event in Sunrise City that follows roughly the same route as Ms. Stone's planned itinerary, and she's been invited too."

"Do you want to attend?"

The Harris family had once had a business base in Shadowpine, but decades ago, Gabriel’s grandfather moved to Luminar to expand the business and never returned.

This time, Gabriel was returning as a business representative from Luminar to attend the economic exchange conference between Luminar and Shadowpine.

The Harris family had flourished in Luminar. Very few company presidents were attending the conference in person—Gabriel could have easily sent a staff member as his representative.

But his personal return gave people an unmistakable sense of significance.
