Chapter 313 A Strawberry-Flavored Kiss
Chapter 313 A Strawberry-Flavored Kiss
Cordelia glanced at the man beside her. There was something irresistibly charming in his deep gaze.
She pressed her lips together lightly, opened her mouth, and was about to speak when Alaric's phone rang.
Alaric picked up his phone and looked at it, his brows furrowing slightly.
He declined the call, then turned to Cordelia and said.
"What were you going to say just now?"
Cordelia had just seen the name on Alaric's phone , it was a call from "Hazel."
She pressed her lips together lightly and said in a calm voice.
"Nothing, I'll drive you back."
After saying this, she started the car and drove out of the Stone Manor to take Alaric home.
On the way, Hazel called two more times, but Alaric didn't answer either call.
He put his phone on silent mode, then put it away, wanting to find something to chat about with Cordelia.
Just as he was about to speak, Cordelia's calm voice rang out.
"Ms. Morrison has called you so many times, it might be something urgent. Why aren't you answering?"
Alaric replied in a flat tone.
"If it were really urgent, she wouldn't be calling me."
Cordelia took a quiet breath, glanced at Alaric, but ultimately said nothing and turned her attention back to driving.
From that one glance, Alaric could tell there were many questions on her mind. He had been leaning back comfortably in his seat, but immediately sat up straight.
"There's nothing between her and me, don't misunderstand."
His tone was serious, and he explained it to her with sincerity.
Cordelia paused.
When she first returned to the country, rumors were already swirling that Alaric was about to get engaged to the Morrison family's eldest daughter.
She had even overheard a phone call between Alaric and Hazel, in which Hazel called Alaric "darling."
With a relationship like that, how could there be anything between them?
They belonged to different worlds, so ever since that last dinner party, Cordelia hadn't crossed paths with Hazel.
Plus, she had been in Ravenshollow recently, so there was even less chance of running into her.
Cordelia hummed in acknowledgment and said nothing.
Alaric quietly watched the changes in her expression. Her face remained calm, without the slightest ripple of emotion.
A strong sense of unease suddenly rose in his heart. He looked deeply at Cordelia and explained.
"She's not my fiancée."
Those rumors weren't true, but the gossip had indeed spread more and more wildly because he had allowed it to. At the time, he had wanted to see Cordelia's reaction.
After all, they had been married for three years.
Seeing your former partner about to get engaged should at least trigger some reaction.
After all, when he went to Astoria to find her and saw her with Dominic, his heart had ached for a long time.
But Cordelia had no reaction at all, and didn't even ask anyone about him.
Even Evelyn never came to ask him about his relationship with Hazel, not even to probe.
Listening to the man beside her explain, the coldness in Cordelia's eyes dissipated somewhat, and her tense mood seemed to ease.
As she was driving, she passed by a dessert shop and pulled over.
Alaric's anxious heart tightened, thinking Cordelia was going to make him get out.
"Cordelia..."
Alaric spoke softly, but before he could finish, Cordelia looked out the window and said gently.
"Alaric, go buy me a box of desserts."
"I like strawberry-flavored cupcakes."
Upon hearing Cordelia's words, Alaric's eyes brightened. "Wait for me."
After saying this, he quickly opened the car door, got out, and headed straight for the dessert shop.
Cordelia waited in the car, watching Alaric in his black suit standing in the pink-decorated dessert shop, unable to stop the corners of her lips from curving up.
Alaric quickly bought the desserts and came back. Opening the car door before even getting in, he immediately handed the desserts to Cordelia.
Cordelia reached out to take the desserts and thanked him softly.
Alaric's thin lips curved up slightly. He bent down to get in the car and sat in the passenger seat. Seeing that Cordelia had already opened the dessert box and taken out the strawberry-flavored treat, the tenderness in his eyes seemed like it could overflow.
After Cordelia rejected the desserts he brought her in Ravenshollow last time, Alaric had been so troubled he couldn't sleep all night.
Cordelia took out a dessert and took a bite. Seeing Alaric staring at her intently, she asked.
"Do you want some?"
There were still four pieces of dessert in the box.
She held the box out to Alaric, indicating he should take one himself.
However, he reached out and took the dessert box from her hand, then leaned his head toward Cordelia, opened his mouth, and took a bite of the dessert she was holding and had already eaten from.
Cordelia paused, her heartbeat accelerating.
Alaric ate from the dessert in her hand, completely satisfied.
He leaned back in his seat, his long, narrow eyes slightly narrowed, looking at Cordelia, his voice low and slightly husky.
"Very sweet and soft, just like you."
Hearing his words, Cordelia's ears turned red.
She looked at the small corner of dessert remaining in her hand, bit her lip lightly, and finally reached out to put it to Alaric's lips.
Alaric was happy to enjoy Cordelia's service and opened his mouth.
As he opened his mouth to bite the dessert, whether intentionally or not, he lightly bit Cordelia's finger.
Cordelia felt a strange sensation like an electric current traveling from her fingertip, then running wild throughout her body.
She immediately pulled her hand back.
Alaric chuckled softly and apologized.
"Sorry."
The apology carried no sincerity whatsoever; in fact, he seemed quite pleased.
Cordelia pulled out a tissue from the side to wipe her finger, glanced at the still-smiling Alaric, then grabbed his hand and bit it in retaliation before letting go.
Alaric clearly hadn't expected her to do that. He was stunned for a moment, then said with a smile.
"Cordelia."
"You're so cute."
He had never noticed before that Cordelia had such a cute side, like a noble long-haired kitten licking its paws.
Hearing this, Cordelia glared at him, then started the car to drive him back to Garden Vista Estates.
Throughout the drive, Alaric never used a tissue to wipe his hand, which still carried the faint scent of strawberry cake.
Cordelia drove the car into the courtyard of Garden Vista Estates and stopped.
Alaric reached out to open the car door, his movements somewhat hesitant, a hint of uncertainty flashing in his deep eyes.
Cordelia, remembering that Alaric was getting his stitches removed tomorrow, turned to remind him not to get the wound wet tonight.
Just as she turned to speak, the man who was about to get out suddenly turned around, his broad palm cupping the back of her head, his handsome face leaning in, accurately capturing her lips in a kiss.
Cordelia's eyes flashed with surprise.
Alaric reached out to cover her eyes, deepening the kiss.
