Chapter 26 Who Says Only Beautiful Women Lie?
Dominic had been abroad for many years, and most of the Gray family's business was overseas.
So, the Gray family didn't have a deep connection with Bobby.
When Dominic left the country, he hadn't taken over his family business, so he had never met Bobby.
Now, he was only using the connections the Gray family had left behind before he went abroad.
Seeing that Dominic wasn't responding, Kevin chuckled.
"Hey, Dominic, sorry about that. How about I make it up to you and Evelyn with dinner another night?"
"Gotta go now. Bye."
After Kevin ended the call, Evelyn's number popped up on Dominic's phone.
Seeing Evelyn's call, he answered.
"Hey, Evelyn."
Evelyn responded, apologetic.
"Dominic, I'm really sorry, but I can't make it to dinner tonight."
"Did Kevin just call you?"
Dominic replied, "Yeah, he did."
"Did Bobby invite you too?"
Evelyn answered, "Yeah, he did."
"Cordelia and I have to head over there too. Is Cordelia with you?"
Dominic glanced at Cordelia, a hint of frustration in his eyes.
"Yeah, she's here."
Evelyn quickly said, "I'll come get her right away."
Dominic nodded, "Alright."
After Evelyn hung up, she immediately drove over.
Dominic put his phone away and looked at Cordelia, "Cordelia, I'm really sorry I couldn't help this time."
"With Bobby stepping in, this issue will definitely be resolved. You don't need to worry."
Cordelia, though not from the business world, knew who Bobby was.
Back when the Stone family was at its peak, Bobby often visited.
But after the Stone family declined, many families that were close to them gradually distanced themselves.
Seeing the frustration in Dominic's eyes, Cordelia quickly responded politely.
"We should apologize. We promised to have dinner together, but now it's delayed because of other matters."
"Thank you for your help these past few days."
Dominic didn't reply, his smile tinged with bitterness.
Evelyn had already tried to contact Bobby, but the Adams family had been declining, citing Bobby's poor health as an excuse.
Now, Bobby suddenly inviting Kevin and Evelyn to his home surely had Alaric's influence.
Dominic hadn't been very confident about persuading them, considering his connection with Kevin was from years ago.
With Bobby involved, the issue would surely be resolved. Alaric only needed to say a word to help the Stone Group out of their crisis.
This left Dominic feeling deeply powerless.
Evelyn's car arrived quickly. Cordelia said goodbye to Dominic and got into Evelyn's car, heading to the Adams' villa.
At the entrance of the Adams Villa.
Alaric's car was parked by the roadside.
As Cordelia opened the car door and got out, Alaric also stepped out of his car.
His deep eyes fell on Cordelia, and he waved her over without saying a word.
Cordelia hesitated, frozen in place.
Evelyn gently said, "It was him who called Bobby to persuade him to help the Stone family."
Hearing this, Cordelia pressed her lips together, suppressing the strange feelings inside, and walked towards Alaric.
As she approached, Alaric wrapped his arm around her waist, his tone indifferent.
"Bobby has always wanted to meet my wife."
Cordelia immediately tensed up. This was the first time Alaric had brought her to a social event.
Sensing her stiffness, Alaric lowered his gaze, his narrow eyes landing on her, and he offered a mocking smile.
"Weren't you pretty confident when you went to dine with those real estate developers?"
Cordelia stayed quiet.
Alaric tightened his grip, pulling her closer. "Relax, Bobby is nice. Besides, if anything goes sideways, your sister's got it covered."
Evelyn walked behind them, hearing Alaric's words, she looked at Cordelia.
"It's okay, Cordelia, I'm here."
With Evelyn's reassurance, Cordelia felt an inexplicable sense of security.
However, the faint scent on Alaric's body made Cordelia uncomfortable.
She used to love the way he smelled, but ever since she found out where that scent came from in Janet's hospital room, she had been repulsed by it.
They walked into the living room.
Bobby was sitting on the sofa, chatting with a few young people.
He loved lively gatherings, so he hosted family dinners every month, inviting some younger folks over.
As Evelyn stepped into the living room, she paused.
Bruce was sitting opposite Bobby, smiling and chatting with him.
He exuded maturity and steadiness, his hair slicked back, looking completely different from the sunny, fashionable man he used to be.
She hadn't expected Bruce to be here.
She thought Bobby had only invited Alaric, her, and Kevin today.
Bobby's face lit up with a kind smile as he saw Alaric, Cordelia, and Evelyn approaching.
"Alaric, come on in and sit down."
Alaric nodded, guiding Cordelia to sit across from Bobby.
Cordelia noticed Bobby's gaze on her and spoke softly, "Mr. Adams, long time no see."
Bobby nodded, pleased with her address.
"The little girl who used to cry and follow her sister around has grown into such a fine young lady. I heard you're a doctor now?"
Cordelia quickly nodded.
"Yes, Mr. Adams."
Bobby smiled kindly, "It is a noble profession, very respectable."
"How's your father doing lately?"
Cordelia nodded slightly, "Much better, he'll be discharged tomorrow."
Bobby nodded, then turned to Alaric.
"I haven't attended your wedding with Alaric yet. Don't you plan to hold a proper ceremony?"
Alaric's expression remained calm, his grip on Cordelia tightening slightly. After a moment, he replied.
"We've been quite busy lately, but we'll seriously consider it soon."
He sounded sincere. If they weren't on the brink of divorce, Cordelia might have been fooled by Alaric's apparent honesty.
Who said only beautiful women could lie?
She thought Alaric was quite good at it too.
Evelyn took a seat next to Cordelia, greeting Bobby.
Bobby had always been fond of Evelyn.
In their circle, the Stone family was the only one without a son. Evelyn, as a daughter, had made quite a name for herself in business, earning Bobby's admiration.
If the Adams family had a suitable bachelor, Bobby would have loved to have Evelyn as a granddaughter-in-law.
Perhaps because of his age, Bobby was particularly concerned about the younger generation's marriages, especially since Evelyn was nearing thirty.
He glanced at Bruce, then at Evelyn, "Evelyn, you're still single, right?"
Evelyn hadn't looked at Bruce once, replying calmly, "Yes."
"My father has been worrying about my marriage lately. Does Mr. Adams have any suitable candidates to introduce?"
Suddenly, a teasing voice came from outside.
"Aren't I the best candidate?"
