Chapter 196 He Is Cordelia's Favorite Man
In Cordelia's eyes, Jason was just a kid with a terrible personality and a short fuse.
She didn't take him seriously at all, let alone pay any attention to what he said.
Cordelia walked slowly to her office door and looked up to see Alaric standing by the elevator.
His face was dark, and he was clearly in a bad mood.
She had been visiting Ruth's hospital room every day lately, but hadn't run into Alaric even once.
However, now that she saw him, his expression looked rather gloomy.
"Mr. Hughes." Cordelia spoke first. "Are you here to see me?"
Alaric's eyes were indifferent as he walked toward her.
"I lost my medication."
His tone was low, giving away no emotion.
As he spoke, he glanced toward Jason's room.
When Jason saw Alaric, his face changed dramatically and he quickly retreated into his room.
"When did you lose it?" Cordelia asked as she walked into her office.
Alaric followed behind her, answering without expression, "Several days ago."
Cordelia paused mid-step. "Why didn't you tell me?"
He responded curtly, "You didn't ask.
Cordelia fell silent.
Alaric walked to her desk, pulled out a chair and sat down.
Cordelia also turned on her computer to prescribe his medication, and gave him a simple checkup while asking about his physical condition during this time.
"Do you still feel any discomfort in your stomach in the morning? Like bloating or pain?"
Alaric nodded. "Yes."
Cordelia frowned. "When you're not feeling well, you see a doctor. Surely I don't need to teach you that too, Mr. Hughes?"
Alaric's expression remained unchanged. "Dr. Stone is busy. I didn't want to bother you."
Cordelia was taken aback by his words, though she had indeed been quite busy lately.
With Alaric's condition stable, she had started taking on new patients, and she also had to work at the clinic every day.
"You're my patient. No matter how busy I am, I'll make time to check on your condition."
Alaric's eyes darkened slightly. "If Dr. Stone could really make time, you wouldn't have completely ignored this patient of yours."
Cordelia fell silent.
Why did she feel like after just a few days, everything coming out of his mouth was so cutting?
She had deliberately tried to keep some distance from Alaric, avoiding too much contact with him to prevent her heart from wavering again.
Since Alaric hadn't contacted her either, she assumed he hadn't encountered any problems.
She didn't expect that when they met again, he'd be carrying so much resentment.
"The prescription is ready. You can just go to the pharmacy to pick it up." Cordelia looked up at Alaric only after she was done the prescription.
Hannah had finished packing up for the day and was walking toward Cordelia's office.
Before she reached the door, her voice came first.
"Cordelia, are you ready? Harry brought some young handsome guys to wait for us at the restaurant. After dinner we'll head over."
Hannah reached the doorway and her voice stopped abruptly.
Alaric turned to look at her.
Hannah froze immediately, stunned for a few seconds, then cleared her throat and greeted Alaric. "Mr. Hughes, are you not feeling well?"
Alaric didn't answer Hannah's question directly. "After dinner, where are you going?"
Hannah didn't know how to respond for a moment.
She quickly looked at Cordelia.
Cordelia's expression remained calm as she answered honestly.
"After dinner we're going to a bar to relax."
Alaric withdrew his gaze from Hannah and looked at Cordelia.
"Since when did going to bars become your way of relaxing?"
Cordelia pressed her lips together and smiled faintly. "People can't stay in their own little bubble forever. At my age, I should experience different ways of living."
Alaric's face turned cold and silent.
The atmosphere in the air froze for a moment.
To ease the tension, Hannah laughed awkwardly. "Would Mr. Hughes like to join us?"
She was just being polite.
But Alaric nodded and agreed. "Sure."
Both Hannah's and Cordelia's expressions stiffened.
Neither of them expected Alaric to accept.
Alaric stood up from his chair and looked at Cordelia. "Shall we leave now?"
Cordelia's expression stiffened slightly as she reminded him, "You haven't picked up your medication yet."
Alaric: "I'll have Robert get it."
Cordelia: "You still need to take medication. You can't drink."
Alaric: "I won't drink. Last time at the bar, I didn't drink either. I mainly just wanted to experience the atmosphere."
Cordelia was speechless.
She looked at Hannah.
Hannah also looked helpless.
In the end, Hannah and Cordelia brought Alaric to the restaurant.
Harry and his friends were already waiting in the private room.
Seeing Hannah, Harry stood up and walked over, giving her a big hug.
"Hannah, I missed you so much."
Seeing Hannah's lackluster expression, he raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong? In a bad mood?"
Hannah should have been starry-eyed at the sight of handsome guys.
This wasn't the Hannah he knew.
Cordelia and Alaric walked in behind Hannah.
Cordelia's expression was also somewhat stiff.
Harry had met Cordelia a few times and greeted her proactively. "Cordelia."
Just as he spoke, he saw Alaric following behind Cordelia, and his hand that was about to hug Cordelia immediately stopped.
"Mr. Hughes?"
Alaric nodded slightly. "Add another place setting. You don't mind, do you?"
His tone was polite, but his expression showed no politeness whatsoever.
Harry nodded. "Of course not."
Alaric was currently a hot shot in the domestic business circle.
If he could connect with Alaric, he'd never lack resources in the future.
"It's my honor to have dinner with Mr. Hughes."
"Please, have a seat."
As Harry spoke, he pulled out a chair for Alaric, his attitude respectful and courteous.
Alaric looked at Cordelia.
Harry tactfully pulled out a chair for Cordelia as well.
"Cordelia, please sit."
Cordelia nodded and sat down.
Alaric then sat in the seat next to Cordelia.
After they were seated, Harry gave Hannah a thumbs up.
Hannah was the best for helping him meet such a big shot.
She smiled perfunctorily and sat down next to Cordelia.
Throughout the meal, Harry tried to please Alaric, and even the friends he brought were extremely reserved.
After the meal, Alaric looked at Cordelia and spoke casually.
"Didn't see anyone you liked?"
"Or did my presence here hold you back?"
Cordelia fell silent.
Hannah looked up at the ceiling speechlessly. Hearing the heavy jealousy in Alaric's tone, she wondered if she'd be fired tomorrow.
She felt she should say something Alaric would like to hear to ease the atmosphere and avoid losing her job tomorrow.
"With Mr. Hughes here, who else could Cordelia possibly like? You're Cordelia's favorite man, right, Cordelia?"
Hannah nudged Cordelia with her elbow.
Cordelia didn't answer. She just checked the time, then looked up at the others. "I booked a table at the bar. Has everyone finished eating? If so, let's head over."
Alaric's eyes immediately darkened.
Seeing this, no one dared respond to Cordelia.
