Chapter 171 The Thompson Family Proposes Marriage
Cordelia had just finished brushing Amber's teeth and put down the toothbrush when Alaric walked in from outside and lifted Amber down from the stool.
"Will you have breakfast with me?"
Amber nodded without hesitation and answered crisply.
"Okay."
Having gotten Amber's answer, Alaric turned his gaze to Cordelia.
"Let's have breakfast together."
He knew that getting Amber's agreement was only the first hurdle - getting Cordelia's agreement was the most important one.
Cordelia had planned to take Amber back to The Stone Manor for breakfast. She looked sideways at the scene of Amber being held by Alaric and let out a quiet sigh.
When Alaric faced Amber, his expression was full of warmth, as if he wasn't the same person who usually had a gloomy and dark face.
Her heart softened inexplicably, and she agreed to Alaric's breakfast invitation. "Okay."
She answered softly, just one word like Amber.
But her tone was too flat, revealing no emotion, which made Alaric feel somewhat disappointed.
When the three of them went downstairs, Robert, who had been in the room earlier, had already gone down ahead of them to bring the car around.
He stood by the car, holding open the back door and waiting.
Alaric, holding Amber, moved aside slightly and looked at Cordelia, gesturing for her to get in first.
Cordelia didn't think much of it and bent down to get in the car.
Seeing her get in, Alaric secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
He had just been inexplicably afraid that Cordelia would sit in the passenger seat.
Perhaps having been rejected by her so many times, he had developed some psychological trauma.
Alaric had never faced so many setbacks with a woman before - Cordelia was the first person to make him feel so frustrated.
Robert had already set the location for Sunny Mornings Diner.
This restaurant had always made excellent breakfast, and the environment was very quiet.
Since Cordelia and Amber had returned to the country, they had hardly gone out for breakfast - this was their first time.
Sunny Mornings Diner had brought out one serving of almost every specialty breakfast item on their menu.
Amber looked at the various animal-shaped cakes, not knowing where to start.
Watching the server still bringing out food, Cordelia couldn't help but ask.
"How much did you order?"
"It's enough to eat."
Alaric watched Amber picking and choosing, unable to decide, with a kind smile on his face.
"I didn't know what Amber liked to eat, so I ordered one of everything."
Cordelia watched Alaric obviously doting on Amber and rubbed her temples.
He was already spoiling Amber so much without knowing the truth.
If he found out about Amber's background, then...
Cordelia took a deep breath and quickly pushed that thought away.
Soon, a server brought her a bowl of pumpkin oatmeal porridge.
Cordelia looked at the pumpkin oatmeal porridge in the bowl and paused - this was her favorite breakfast before she went abroad.
When she was working, she and Hannah would take a long detour to the breakfast stand at the entrance of Pioneer University of Medicine to have pumpkin oatmeal porridge.
But Pioneer University of Medicine had expanded in the past two years, and the breakfast stand at the entrance was long gone.
After returning to the country, she had gone there again, wanting to taste that long-missed flavor, but she couldn't find the familiar owner near Pioneer University of Medicine.
She couldn't help but look up at Alaric.
Alaric was smiling as he helped the indecisive Amber choose a cute bunny-shaped bread.
Sensing Cordelia's gaze on him, he looked up at her.
"Try it and see if it suits your taste."
Cordelia raised her eyebrows slightly.
It was probably just a coincidence.
During the three years she was married to Alaric, he had never paid attention to her preferences - how would he know she liked pumpkin oatmeal porridge?
She lowered her head to drink the pumpkin oatmeal porridge and found that the taste was exactly the familiar taste from her memory.
A hint of hesitation flashed in her eyes as she looked up at Alaric.
Alaric's expression remained calm as he said quietly.
"This chef used to run a breakfast stand at the entrance of Pioneer University of Medicine. Later, Sunny Mornings Diner hired him specifically to make pumpkin oatmeal porridge."
Cordelia pressed her lips together, suppressing the complex emotions in her heart, and answered calmly.
"The taste is okay."
Alaric nodded gently. "As long as you like it."
Cordelia fell silent.
After breakfast, Alaric drove Cordelia and Amber back to The Stone Manor.
As Cordelia got out of the car, she gave him some serious instructions.
"I've put your medicine on the table. Remember to take it on time every day according to the labels when you get back."
"Don't drink alcohol."
Alaric nodded and reluctantly handed Amber from his arms to Cordelia.
Cordelia took Amber and closed the car door.
Amber waved at Alaric. "Goodbye, Mr. Hughes."
Alaric also waved at Amber. "Goodbye, Amber."
Cordelia raised her eyebrows slightly and turned to walk into The Stone Manor with Amber in her arms.
Before entering, she glanced at a black sedan parked at the entrance - clearly there were guests at home.
Seeing that Cordelia and Amber had entered the grounds of The Stone Manor, Robert started the car and was about to turn around and leave.
Just as he started the car, Alaric said coldly.
"Stop the car."
Robert immediately stepped on the brake.
The car parked at the entrance of The Stone Manor belonged to the Thompson family.
Cordelia led Amber by the hand into the house.
In the living room, Terry and Kenna were sitting on the sofa. On the table were gifts they had brought - all gold, silver, and jewelry wrapped in red gift boxes.
A strange look flashed in Cordelia's eyes.
Seeing Cordelia return with Amber, Kenna immediately got up from the sofa.
"This must be Amber, right?"
As she spoke, she walked up to Amber, bent down, took Amber's hand, with a face full of kindness.
"Amber, I am..."
Cordelia frowned slightly and immediately understood the intention of Kenna and Terry's visit to The Stone Manor.
She immediately assumed a defensive posture.
Donald also spoke up at this moment to interrupt Kenna.
"Allegra, take Amber upstairs for a bath."
Amber sensed Cordelia's defensiveness, so when Allegra came over, she immediately reached out for Allegra to carry her upstairs.
Seeing the Stone family's people so guarded against them, Kenna's expression became somewhat awkward.
She looked at Cordelia with a guilty expression.
"Cordelia, I know you're still angry about what happened that day, but no matter what, we are Amber's relatives, so please don't stop us from showing our love for Amber, okay?"
Hearing Kenna's words, Cordelia rubbed her temples and said quietly.
"I've already said that Amber has nothing to do with Thomas."
Kenna smiled awkwardly and said softly, "Cordelia, at this point, why do you need to say such things out of anger?"
"Marigold already knows she was wrong. Thomas wronged you, so this time we brought gifts to apologize."
"Cordelia, for the sake of giving the child a complete family, you and Thomas should just get married."
"However you two want to get along after marriage, we absolutely won't interfere anymore."
When Kenna said these words, her expression was somewhat urgent, as if Cordelia not marrying into the Thompson family would be unfair to Amber.
