Chapter 143 He Is Just an Ex-Husband, He Has No Right
Half an hour later.
Robert lifted his hand to check his watch, then carefully raised his head to look at the rearview mirror.
He saw Alaric sitting in the back seat. In the dim environment, Robert couldn't really make out his expression clearly, but he could feel the atmosphere was quite heavy.
Robert took a deep breath and gathered his courage to speak.
"Mr. Hughes, should we go in and visit Mr. Stone?"
Alaric in the back seat didn't say anything and remained completely still.
Robert felt the atmosphere around him was very oppressive. He let out a breath and didn't dare to speak again.
A few minutes later, Thomas walked out of The Stone Manor, with Cordelia seeing him off.
Thomas was holding Amber in his arms. Amber stayed very obediently in Thomas's embrace, and when Thomas was about to leave, she clung reluctantly to his neck.
"Godfather, when will you come back to see me?"
Amber was still young, and her speech wasn't very clear.
From across the street, Robert and Alaric could only vaguely hear the word "father."
Robert saw that Alaric had already opened the car door and was about to get out, but after hearing Amber's words, he sat back down.
Robert's expression was also quite confused.
Wasn't Amber's father Dominic?
How was Thomas involved now?
What was going on?
Robert didn't even dare to breathe, and even lowered his head, wanting to make himself invisible.
"If you want to see me, I'll come visit you every day from now on."
Amber nodded.
Cordelia smiled slightly at this, then looked up at Amber and said gently.
"Thomas needs to go home now. Can Amber go inside with Allegra for a bath first? Thomas and I need to talk."
Amber nodded. Allegra took Amber from Thomas's arms and went inside.
Thomas watched Amber go inside, then turned his gaze to Cordelia.
He naturally placed his hand on Cordelia's shoulder and said jokingly.
"Don't worry, I'll definitely handle my parents. I won't let you and Amber suffer any grievance."
Cordelia felt relieved seeing he could still joke around.
"Have a good talk with your parents when you get back. Call me if there are any problems."
Thomas nodded and ruffled Cordelia's hair. "Okay, even if there are problems, I'll handle them."
Cordelia smiled and nodded, opening the car door for Thomas and reminding him.
"Okay, drive safely."
Thomas nodded, got in the car, and left.
Cordelia stood there watching Thomas's car leave. Just as she was about to turn around, she saw Alaric getting out of his car across the street.
She froze when she saw Alaric.
She had thought Alaric might come looking for her later, but she didn't expect him to come so quickly.
His car was parked in a dark spot. If you didn't look carefully, you couldn't tell there was a car there at all.
"How long has Mr. Hughes been hiding over here?"
Cordelia looked at his gloomy expression, a slight smile forming at the corner of her lips as she stared into his deep eyes.
Alaric walked up to her, stopped, and glanced at the corner of her lips.
"Since Thomas dropped you off here just now, I've been here."
Cordelia had eaten some fruit at home earlier, and some of her lipstick had come off.
Seeing Alaric staring at her lips, Cordelia's eyes flashed with confusion. She reached up to wipe them lightly, thinking there was something on her lips.
"When did Mr. Hughes start stalking people—"
Before Cordelia could finish her sentence, Alaric, standing in front of her, suddenly reached out and pulled her forcefully into his arms.
His movement was quick. Almost in the instant when she wasn't paying attention, he bent down and kissed her lips.
Although Alaric usually kept a cold expression, his behavior could be considered gentlemanly. Cordelia hadn't expected him to suddenly force a kiss on her.
After she came to her senses, she struggled.
However, Alaric refused to let her go. The more she struggled, the tighter he held her in his arms.
Cordelia became ruthless and bit his lip. Alaric only frowned in pain but still didn't let her go.
Instantly, Cordelia's mouth was filled with the metallic taste of blood.
A few minutes later, Alaric finally released Cordelia.
Cordelia took a deep breath, frowned, and raised her hand to slap Alaric.
But Alaric caught her hand, tightening his grip slightly. He stared at her intently for a few seconds, then smiled contemptuously.
"I just wanted to taste what flavor both Thomas and Dominic are so obsessed with."
Cordelia frowned, trying to pull her hand back.
But Alaric held on tighter. His tone carried a hint of hoarseness as he said.
"Not much different from before. Though it's tasteless, it would be a shame to give up."
"You have such a dignified and noble face, but behind the scenes you can skillfully play two men against each other. Cordelia, I underestimated you before."
Cordelia froze.
Alaric's eyes were cold as he looked down at Cordelia, his gaze as if looking at a promiscuous woman.
He reached out and lightly tugged at Cordelia's collar. On her slender neck were still the kiss marks he had left that night. His eyes heated up, but deep inside he felt more anger and resentment.
Cordelia also realized what he was looking at. She immediately adjusted her collar and looked up at him.
"Whether I'm involved with two men or three men, it has nothing to do with you."
"We're already divorced. You don't think your ex-wife should remain chaste for you, do you?"
Alaric's eyes darkened as he looked at her coldly and said.
"Nothing to do with me? Thomas is my cousin, you're my ex-wife. The connection here is quite significant."
"You met Thomas three years ago, you officially got together with Dominic three years ago."
"Who is the father of your child? Are you really sure?"
Cordelia looked at Alaric heavily, a sense of humiliation from his insults spreading through her heart.
Almost the moment Alaric finished speaking, she suddenly raised her hand and swung it toward Alaric's face.
This time, the slap landed accurately.
In the quiet night, the sound of Cordelia's full-force slap was quite loud.
Alaric frowned, his gaze fixed tightly on Cordelia, his eyes so dark they seemed capable of killing.
Force is mutual. Cordelia felt her palm go numb and somewhat painful, but this bit of pain was nothing compared to the pain in her heart.
Her eyes stared gravely at Alaric, her expression serious.
"You can humiliate me, but you cannot humiliate my daughter."
"Alaric, you have no right to criticize me or my daughter. You're not worthy."
"To me, you're just a stranger with whom I had a brief marriage."
Alaric frowned tightly, his heart aching faintly. He suddenly grabbed Cordelia as she was about to leave, but after just a few seconds, he quickly let go.
With a dark expression, he turned and got back in his car before Cordelia could enter The Stone Manor, as if being a step slower would mean losing everything.
