Chapter 136 Alaric, I Want to Vomit
After finishing his drink, Alaric noticed Cordelia's gaze on him. His expression froze slightly, and an inexplicable sense of guilt rose in his heart.
He composed himself, set down his glass, and when he looked at Cordelia again, she had already looked away.
Terrence walked over to Cordelia with his glass to toast her. Cordelia rarely drank, but it was hard to refuse such hospitality, so she picked up her glass and took a small sip.
She had no surgeries tomorrow, so having a bit of alcohol didn't matter.
But what she didn't expect was that after she took that first sip, more and more people came to toast her, and she couldn't even find a reason to refuse.
Just like that, Cordelia, who rarely drank, ended up having two glasses of red wine throughout the meal.
With her already poor alcohol tolerance, her face quickly flushed red, and she felt somewhat tipsy.
But she could still maintain her composure.
Everyone knew when to stop and had no intention of getting Cordelia completely drunk.
When the dinner ended, everyone gradually left.
Terrence also couldn't hold his liquor well. Having drunk quite a bit at the table, he was helped out by his colleagues.
After seeing off the doctors from her table, Cordelia looked around for Taylor but couldn't find her.
She rubbed her temples and was about to call the Stone family's driver with her phone when she suddenly remembered that her bag was still in Alaric's car.
When the award ceremony started, Cordelia felt it would be inconvenient to carry her bag around, so she left it in Alaric's car.
Her phone and other belongings were all in the bag.
As the alcohol took effect, she felt her cheeks burning hot.
Cordelia frowned and looked for Alaric. When she spotted him talking with some officials, she felt it would be inappropriate to interrupt.
She could only find a corner seat and sit down, watching in Alaric's direction, waiting for him to finish his conversation with the officials before approaching him.
Janet had been keeping an eye on Cordelia's movements. Seeing Cordelia sit down, holding her face in her hands and staring dreamily in Alaric's direction, she couldn't help but grit her teeth.
Cordelia's current appearance was full of charm and allure.
Her heart sank. She walked over and couldn't help but speak up.
"Ms. Stone, you already have a child, and you still plan to seduce Alaric?"
Right now, Cordelia only felt her face burning and her head heavy.
She maintained her previous posture, lifted her head to look at Janet standing in front of her, and tilted her head slightly.
"Ms. Martin."
Her voice was very soft.
Seeing her like this, Janet took a deep breath, a flash of jealousy crossing her eyes.
She had to admit, Cordelia was beautiful—so beautiful that people couldn't look away.
"Ms. Martin, I already have a child, so why haven't you managed to latch onto Alaric yet?"
At these words, Janet's expression changed abruptly. She stared darkly at Cordelia's flushed face.
"My relationship with Alaric isn't what you think. Right now, I'm the one who doesn't want to get back together with him, doesn't want to be with him. In my view, it's best if we maintain a friendship—not too close, not too distant."
Cordelia looked at her quietly without responding.
Janet suppressed her emotions and softened her tone.
"Ms. Stone, you're just a victim of a business marriage. Alaric's attention to you now is just because he feels sorry for you."
"After all, you were his wife for three years, and when he divorced you, you hadn't done anything wrong. He's pitying you now."
After saying this, Janet smiled faintly and walked toward Alaric.
Alaric had finished his conversation with the officials. He immediately noticed Cordelia in the corner and walked over with a stern face.
Earlier at the dinner, Alaric had noticed Cordelia drinking, so he declined everyone who came to toast him afterward.
After all, if Cordelia got drunk, he needed to stay sober to take care of her.
So Alaric only had one drink when he clinked glasses with that official at the beginning, and never raised his glass again after that.
Seeing Alaric approaching, Janet actively stopped in front of him.
"Ms. Stone seems to have had quite a bit to drink and isn't feeling well. Alaric, you should go check on her."
Alaric's eyes were indifferent. He walked past Janet and went straight to Cordelia.
Cordelia had quietly watched Janet approach Alaric to talk, then watched him walk to her side and bend down to ask her.
"Where don't you feel well?"
Cordelia looked up at him, her eyes slightly red, and said very softly.
"My heart feels uncomfortable."
Hearing this, Alaric's expression changed dramatically. "I'll take you to the hospital right away."
As he spoke, he reached out to support her waist.
The moment his hand touched her waist, Cordelia pushed him away and said in an extremely cold voice.
"It's because I see you that I feel so uncomfortable."
Alaric's outstretched hand froze in place, and his heart began to ache too.
Cordelia supported herself on the table and stood up from her chair. With the alcohol fully taking effect, she staggered a few steps.
The heels she wore today were several inches higher than usual, and when she stumbled, she accidentally twisted her ankle.
She frowned in pain.
Alaric walked to her side with a cold face, reached out to hold her waist, pulled her directly into his arms, and said coldly.
"I'll take you back!"
Cordelia frowned. Smelling the faint fresh scent on him, she shook her head. "Where's Robert? Have him take me."
Robert had just seen off some guests. Seeing Cordelia and Alaric together, and knowing they had both been drinking, he realized he would have to drive.
So Robert walked over to ask if they were leaving.
He had just approached when Cordelia saw him.
She almost immediately pushed Alaric away and walked toward Robert.
"Robert, could you please give me a ride."
Before she finished speaking, her foot caught on something, and she stumbled toward Robert.
Seeing this, Robert reacted quickly and caught Cordelia.
Cordelia's entire body weight was practically leaning on Robert.
Alaric's face instantly turned as cold as frost.
Robert's expression changed slightly. He wanted to pull his hand back but was worried Cordelia would fall.
If he didn't pull back his hand, Alaric would probably want to chop it off.
In the end, Robert could only push Cordelia back into Alaric's arms. "I'll go get the car ready."
Without waiting for Alaric's response, he strode away.
With Robert's push, Cordelia's head became completely dizzy.
Alaric, with a cold face, bent down slightly and scooped her up in a princess carry.
Despite having had a child, Cordelia's weight was still very light, no different from three years ago.
Suddenly lifted into the air, Cordelia gripped Alaric's clothes tightly, looking uncomfortable.
Alaric frowned and slowed his pace.
Cordelia in his arms pressed her red lips together tightly. As he bent down to get her into the car, he heard her mumble softly, "Alaric, I feel like throwing up."
