Chapter 131 Don't Want to Continue This Life of Uncertainty
Amber waited a long time without getting any response from Alaric. She brought the receiver up to her face and looked at it, her round eyes full of confusion.
"Mr. Hughes isn't saying anything."
Her voice was soft and sweet as she looked obediently at Clio at the front desk.
"Is the phone broken?"
As she spoke, she handed the receiver to Clio, wanting her to check it.
Seeing Amber like this, Clio felt her heart melting. She quickly took the receiver, but soon Alaric's voice came through.
"I'm listening."
Alaric's voice was deep.
Clio immediately handed the receiver back to Amber.
Amber grabbed the receiver with both hands. "Mr. Hughes."
Alaric walked toward the airport exit while holding his phone.
Robert was a sharp person. Seeing this, he immediately jogged out of the airport and quickly called for the driver to bring the car to the entrance.
"You and your grandfather go to my office and wait for me. I'll be right back."
Hearing Amber's soft voice, Alaric also softened his tone.
Amber nodded obediently, then seemed to remember that Alaric couldn't see her response, so she replied loudly, "Okay."
After she finished, she handed the receiver to Clio.
Clio took the receiver and put it to her ear, hearing Alaric coldly instruct her to take Amber and Donald to his office to wait.
She quickly agreed. After Alaric hung up, Clio hurried to bring Donald and Amber to Alaric's office.
Amber sat obediently next to Donald, waiting for Alaric to return.
Throughout, although she curiously looked around Alaric's office, she never touched anything.
It wasn't until Alaric returned to the office that she jumped down from the sofa and ran happily toward him.
"Mr. Hughes."
Seeing Amber running toward him with a big smile, Alaric's gloomy mood lifted considerably.
He bent down and easily picked Amber up.
Donald stood up from the sofa and looked at Alaric. "Early this morning, she heard from Cordelia that you weren't feeling well last night, so she insisted on coming to see you. Evelyn happened to ask me to come to the Stone Group today to handle some account issues, so I brought Amber along to see you."
"Are you feeling okay?"
"It's an old problem, nothing serious." Alaric sat down on the sofa with Amber in his arms. Seeing Donald standing, he immediately invited him to sit.
"Mr. Stone, let's sit and talk."
Donald nodded and sat back down in his previous spot.
Looking at how obediently Amber sat in Alaric's arms, he couldn't help but marvel at the power of blood relations.
Even though Amber and Alaric had met fewer than five times, Amber just naturally felt drawn to Alaric.
Dominic had been with Amber for three years, and Donald had never seen Amber cling to Dominic the way she clung to Alaric.
"I heard from Cordelia that last night you drank too much, which triggered your stomach problem."
"Stomach problems shouldn't be taken lightly. Young people need to take care of their bodies and look after themselves properly."
Hearing Donald's words, Alaric nodded slightly, showing no sign of impatience.
"You're right, Mr. Stone. I'll be more careful from now on."
Donald nodded slightly and chatted with Alaric about other topics.
Then Cordelia's call came through.
She had thought Donald would bring Amber to the Hughes Group in the afternoon, but unexpectedly, Donald had taken Amber out shortly after they left.
She had a rare day off today.
And she hadn't taken Amber out to play in a long time.
Alaric was busy with work. Their visit would probably just be a brief chat, and Alaric wouldn't be able to spend much time with them anyway.
"Dad, I booked a children's restaurant for lunch. After we eat, let's take Amber to the amusement park."
Since Cordelia rarely had free time, Donald naturally agreed. "Okay."
"Send me the restaurant address, and Amber and I will meet you there in a bit."
Cordelia nodded and immediately sent Donald the address after ending the call.
After receiving the address, Donald put away his phone.
Robert knocked on Alaric's office door with some documents and placed them on Alaric's desk.
Seeing this, Donald stood up from the sofa and politely said, "We won't disturb your work any longer."
"Cordelia said she wants to take Amber to the amusement park. We're going to meet her at Rainbow Cottage Diner."
As Donald spoke, he opened his arms toward Amber.
Alaric didn't immediately let go, and Amber sat obediently in Alaric's arms, somewhat reluctant to leave.
She was still holding and playing with Alaric's trophy.
Seeing this, Donald smiled helplessly.
"Amber, Alaric needs to work."
Hearing Donald's words, Amber finally stretched out her arms to let Donald take her.
As they were leaving, Donald took Alaric's trophy from Amber's hands and returned it to Alaric.
"We'll be going now."
"I'll say it again—even though you're young, you still need to take care of your body."
Alaric nodded and walked Donald and Amber to the elevator.
The moment the elevator doors closed, Amber was still waving hard at Alaric.
Alaric also symbolically raised his hand and waved at Amber.
After the elevator doors closed, Alaric didn't immediately turn to leave. Instead, he stood at the elevator entrance staring at the closed doors for a long time.
Feeling unwilling in his heart.
Donald brought Amber to the restaurant to meet Cordelia.
Cordelia had already arrived at Rainbow Cottage Diner. When she saw Donald and Amber, she walked over with a big smile, picked up Amber, and gave her a kiss.
"I just took Amber to see him once, and you're already so nervous. What, worried he'll steal Amber away?"
Hearing Donald's words, Cordelia pressed her lips together and quickly said, "Of course not! I had already decided to take Amber out to play during her break."
Amber's attention was caught by the kangaroo statue at the restaurant entrance. She struggled out of Cordelia's arms, got down, and ran over to it.
Cordelia took out her phone to take pictures of Amber.
Donald watched Cordelia's guilty expression as she avoided his gaze and said quietly.
"Amber really likes him, and he naturally feels drawn to Amber too."
"If we keep hiding it from him, it's not right."
Cordelia took a few photos of Amber. Hearing Donald's words, she pressed her lips together and replied softly.
"I never intended to hide it from him."
"Dad, it's just that he doesn't think Amber is his child at all."
Cordelia bit her lip lightly, watching Amber interact sweetly with the person in the kangaroo costume at the restaurant entrance, and said heavily.
"When I came back to the country, I did think about giving Amber a complete family. But after coming back, I realized I could never get past that feeling of uncertainty from three years ago. I don't want to live like that again."
