Chapter 109 Blocking Alaric's Feed
"I spoke out of turn."
Seeing Alaric's displeased expression, Clifford lowered his head with a somewhat apologetic look on his face.
Alaric sank into the sofa, closed his eyes, and waved his hand.
"Go get some rest."
Hearing this, Clifford nodded and quietly withdrew.
When Saskia came out of the servants' quarters, she saw Alaric sitting on the sofa with a troubled expression on his face.
"Mr. Hughes."
"Have you been drinking?"
Saskia asked softly.
Alaric opened his eyes, glanced at Saskia, and nodded slightly.
"Yes."
Saskia noticed his complexion didn't look too good, probably because he'd been out drinking at business dinners all this time.
"I'll go prepare some hangover remedy for you right away."
Alaric didn't respond.
Seeing this, Saskia sighed softly and went into the kitchen to prepare the hangover remedy for Alaric.
By the time she brought the prepared remedy to the living room, Alaric had already gotten up from the sofa, planning to go upstairs.
"Mr. Hughes, the hangover remedy is ready."
Saskia called out to Alaric.
Alaric stopped, and Saskia immediately brought it over. "Mr. Hughes, drinking the hangover remedy will help you feel a bit better, not so uncomfortable."
Alaric frowned at the hangover remedy before him, his eyes darkening.
He remembered that in the first year after he and Cordelia got married, the Hughes Group was going through a crisis, and he was out at business dinners every day back then too.
After those dinners, Cordelia would always have a bowl of hangover remedy ready for him.
But because he didn't like Cordelia at the time, he never drank the remedies she prepared, only telling her not to waste her efforts.
Thinking back on these things now, Alaric felt as if the hangover remedy he'd just drunk was stuck in his throat.
He took a heavy breath, his heart suddenly feeling stuffy and uncomfortable.
After handing the bowl back to Saskia, he said coldly with a stern face, "Don't prepare it anymore. I'm fine."
Saskia just kept her head down without responding.
Alaric returned to his bedroom with a dark expression.
The next day, at the Stone Manor.
When Cordelia woke up, Amber beside her was still sleeping.
She slowed her movements, trying not to wake Amber.
However, just as she got out of bed, Amber opened her eyes. Seeing Cordelia getting up, she sat up on the bed with her little bottom in the air, rubbed her eyes, and looked at Cordelia.
"Mommy, hug."
Seeing her wake up asking for a hug, Cordelia immediately reached out and pulled her into her arms.
"Did I wake you?"
Amber shook her head. "No."
As she spoke, she lifted her head and planted a kiss on Cordelia's face.
Cordelia's heart was instantly healed. She carried Amber up and went into the bathroom to wash up.
Amber stood on a small stool, brushing her teeth very seriously.
Hearing the noise, Allegra knocked and entered the room. Seeing that Cordelia had already changed Amber's clothes, she walked over and picked Amber up.
"Your mommy has to go to work. Will Amber play with me?"
Amber nodded.
She had long gotten used to Cordelia's early departures and late returns.
Back in Astoria, Cordelia had to keep up with her studies.
Amber was breastfed until six months old, then switched to formula.
Sometimes in the quiet of the night, looking at Amber lying beside her, Cordelia always felt she spent too little time with her.
So whenever she had time off, Cordelia almost always made Amber her priority.
After breakfast, Cordelia waved to Amber as she left.
Just as she drove the car out of the garage, Bruce's car pulled into the courtyard.
Their cars passed each other.
Bruce rolled down his window first to greet Cordelia.
"Cordelia."
Seeing Bruce, Cordelia smiled slightly. "Mr. Howard, good morning."
After a brief greeting, Cordelia drove away from the Stone Manor.
Bruce parked his car to the side and took out the gift he'd prepared from the trunk. Passing by the garden on one side of the Stone Manor, he saw Amber crouching beside a pot of brightly blooming flowers, watching intently.
Bruce had only seen news about Amber online yesterday.
Evelyn hadn't told him anything about Cordelia over the past three years.
Now seeing this small figure, Bruce couldn't help but be curious and walked over.
Amber was crouching in front of the flowerpot. A small butterfly was resting on a flower, and she hesitantly reached out her hand, being extra careful.
As Bruce approached, he stepped on a dead twig, and the butterfly immediately flew away.
Amber turned her head with her big round eyes and saw Bruce standing not far from her. She blinked.
There was no fear of strangers in her eyes at all, just curious examination of him.
Seeing Amber's well-behaved and cute appearance, Bruce grinned, wanting to show his most kind side to Amber.
Looking at the strange Bruce before her, Amber's expression showed some surprise. She immediately stood up and ran on her short little legs to find Allegra.
Allegra bent down and picked Amber up.
Seeing Bruce, she greeted him politely.
"Mr. Howard."
Bruce nodded, his gaze falling on Amber's face. "Is this Cordelia's child?"
Allegra nodded slightly but didn't say much more, changing the subject and inviting Bruce into the Stone Manor's living room.
Evelyn had worked late last night and had only just woken up a while ago.
Bruce had been wanting to get married for the past two years, and as soon as Donald returned to the country, he couldn't wait to meet him.
Evelyn hadn't stopped him.
She was at that age too, indeed at the age when she should get married.
After getting ready and coming downstairs, she saw Bruce holding Amber and taking selfies.
Amber was naturally very photogenic and cooperated with Bruce the whole time.
After Evelyn came downstairs, she walked straight to Bruce's side and took Amber into her own arms.
Bruce held up his phone and quickly pulled Evelyn to sit beside him, took a photo, then started selecting photos to post on his feed.
Evelyn looked at him and raised an eyebrow.
She leaned her head over, glanced at it, and seeing that he had already edited the caption and was about to post it, she grabbed his hand.
"Block Alaric."
Bruce paused.
"Why?"
Evelyn gave him a heavy look. "If you don't block him, you can't post it."
Bruce thought that after all, this was Dominic and Cordelia's daughter, and if Alaric saw him getting too close with Dominic's daughter, it would indeed be somewhat inappropriate.
Mainly, Amber was just too cute, and he was Amber's future uncle by marriage, so being close was fine.
It's just that Alaric still had feelings for Cordelia in his heart, so seeing it probably wouldn't feel good. So when he posted to his feed, he really did block Alaric.
After the post went out, many people liked it right away.
Some even asked in the comments if he and Evelyn's child had gotten that big in just a few days.
Seeing a bunch of people below praising how cute Amber was, Bruce felt quite pleased with himself. He reached out to put his arm around Evelyn and quickly said,
"We should have a daughter too in the future."
