Chapter 106 They Are Already Divorced, Do Not Call Her Mrs. Hughes Anymore
When Bruce came across this video, he immediately forwarded it to Alaric.
Alaric only used his phone for work contacts and checking financial news. He rarely watched entertainment short videos or messages like this.
After seeing the video Bruce forwarded, he clicked it open and glanced through it.
He saw Dominic accompanying Cordelia, and Cordelia was holding a child in her arms.
The child appeared to be about two years old.
She was resting on Cordelia's shoulder, drowsy and half-asleep. Her features resembled Cordelia's very much, and her adorable appearance made Alaric's heart ache involuntarily.
He closed the video with a stern face.
But Bruce, as if wanting to make him feel even worse, also sent him screenshots of the comments under the video.
Seeing all the praise about how well-matched Cordelia and Dominic were, and comments about their warm family, Alaric's eyes couldn't help but darken.
With a cold expression, he sent Bruce a single message.
[Don't you have anything better to do?]
Bruce saw Alaric's reply and sent back a grinning emoji.
[I told you to go find her right after Cordelia went abroad, but you insisted on being stubborn. Now look, the kid is already two years old.]
Alaric looked at this message and didn't reply, his face cold.
Bruce sent several more messages, but Alaric simply chose to ignore them and put away his phone.
Robert had already prepared the meeting materials. With ten minutes left before the meeting, he passed by Alaric's office door and deliberately knocked to remind him.
"Mr. Hughes, the meeting starts in ten minutes."
Alaric's eyes were cold as he sat in his office chair, his expression stern. "Alright."
He answered coldly, his face gloomy.
Robert paused. Seeing Alaric's expression so dark, he didn't dare disturb him further and quickly left his office.
The meeting began.
Robert had learned earlier that Alaric was in a bad mood, so he sat quietly in his seat taking meeting notes, not daring to make a sound the entire time.
The senior manager reporting the data saw Alaric's grim face and felt like he was sitting on pins and needles.
This month's profit data had dropped by several percentage points compared to last month.
After the data report was finished, everyone carefully watched Alaric's expression.
Just when they thought Alaric would lose his temper, he simply tapped the table heavily and just said, "Meeting adjourned."
After speaking, he got up and left the conference room directly.
Everyone looked at each other. Only after Alaric had walked far away did they dare to ask Robert, who was packing up his notebook.
"Robert, what's wrong with Mr. Hughes?"
Robert closed his notebook, looked up at the planning department manager who was speaking to him, and answered seriously, "Probably heartbroken."
Robert had learned early this morning about Cordelia's return to the country.
His uncle had also reminded him to be careful during this time.
Now the internet was reporting that Cordelia and Dominic were together and even had a daughter.
Since divorcing Cordelia, Alaric hadn't had any women around him.
Alvin had been finding suitable candidates for Alaric, but Alaric had never met with any of them.
Robert had been by Alaric's side for many years and could somewhat figure out what was going on.
Following Robert's words, the senior managers were all confused.
Alaric and Cordelia had been divorced for three years, and there hadn't been any other women around him all these years. How could he suddenly be heartbroken?
Just as they were about to ask Robert to explain more clearly, Robert had already left the conference room with his notebook.
Even if they wanted to ask something, they felt too awkward to chase after him.
The mall.
Because Amber was getting sleepy, and since this was the age of short videos, Cordelia and Dominic kept getting secretly filmed by people.
Cordelia felt somewhat uncomfortable with it, so she decided to go home.
As soon as they got home, Ruth called inviting Cordelia to come to The Hughes Manor for dinner.
She also said to bring Amber along.
Thinking about Ruth's mobility issues, Cordelia agreed.
Donald had to stay home to entertain guests, so he couldn't go with Cordelia. Cordelia could only go with Amber.
The bodyguards arranged by Evelyn followed them as well.
Ruth had the kitchen prepare many dishes that Cordelia liked.
Alaric had a business dinner that evening and came home to change clothes.
Passing through the front yard, he saw Ruth sitting in her wheelchair, trimming blooming flowers to put in vases.
She wore a kind smile on her face, in a very good mood.
Usually when she saw him, she would snort lightly and ignore him, but today she rarely smiled and spoke to him.
"Eating at home tonight?"
Alaric heard this and looked down at the time. There was still half an hour before the dinner.
He would arrive just in time after changing clothes, with no time to eat dinner with Ruth.
Seeing Alaric looking at his watch, Ruth knew he had plans tonight.
Her expression immediately darkened.
"What business dinner is so important that you don't even have time to eat one meal with me?"
Alaric raised an eyebrow. "Tonight's dinner is indeed quite important. It concerns whether the company's new product can be released as scheduled next month."
"Tomorrow night, I'll stay home and eat with you tomorrow night."
Ruth snorted lightly, cut off a flower stem, her face very displeased.
Seeing this, Clifford wanted to say a few words to persuade Alaric, but saw that Alaric had already walked into the house.
He sighed softly.
Ruth put down the scissors, her face stern, and said, "Let him be."
Clifford heard this and stood obediently to the side.
Alaric went to the dressing room to change into a suit and came downstairs.
The kitchen was preparing dinner, and a spicy aroma wafted out.
Ruth's taste had always been quite mild. Since her mobility became limited, all the dishes she ate were mainly for health maintenance, rarely with such strong flavors.
He frowned slightly, puzzled, and walked toward the kitchen.
The family's nutritionist was standing aside helping out, while Saskia was at the stove cooking.
Saskia hadn't cooked in a long time. Seeing Saskia's busy figure, Alaric frowned and asked.
"Are there guests at home today?"
Alaric's voice suddenly appearing startled Saskia.
Saskia turned off the heat while lifting the wok.
"Mrs. Hughes is coming over."
Alaric heard this, his eyes darkening slightly.
Saskia carefully watched his expression and asked softly.
"Mr. Hughes, will you be staying for dinner?"
Alaric glanced at the ingredients prepared in the kitchen, his eyes deepening.
"No."
After saying this, he strode out of the kitchen, not forgetting to remind sternly as he left.
"I'm already divorced from her. Don't call her Mrs. Hughes anymore."
