Chapter 72 When Did She Marry Alaric?

Chapter 72 When Did She Marry Alaric?

Janet spotted Alaric and the others from a distance as she got out of the cab and hurried over.

Evelyn said something to Alaric, and after glancing in Janet's direction, he walked into the hospital.

Evelyn stood at the entrance, a mocking expression on her face, clearly waiting for Janet.

Janet took a deep breath and walked over, trying to keep her emotions in check.

"Hey, Ms. Evelyn Stone, I want to apologize to Ms. Cordelia Stone in person."

"I was too impulsive earlier, and I've realized my mistake. Please give me another chance. I promise to do my best from now on."

Evelyn looked at her with a cold gaze and chuckled.

"Are you really here to apologize to my sister, or are you just worried about what Mr. Hughes might think of you?"

Janet bit her lip. "If you hadn't tried to embarrass me in front of Alaric, I wouldn't have bumped into Ms. Cordelia Stone."

Evelyn sneered. "So, your negligence at work is my fault now? What exactly have you realized was your mistake?"

Janet was momentarily speechless, her hands clenched at her sides. After a moment, she spoke softly.

"Ms. Stone, you're making things difficult for me because of my relationship with Alaric."

"You're smart enough to see that Alaric seems to care more about your sister than me."

Evelyn stared at Janet for a long time.

Seeing Evelyn's expression change, Janet straightened her back a bit. "You must have noticed it too, Ms. Stone."

Evelyn, observing Janet's almost triumphant stance, replied slowly.

"Mr. Hughes just mentioned that friends should look out for each other. Why are you spouting nonsense?"

Janet gritted her teeth, seeing that Evelyn didn't believe her. "You'll see soon enough."

Evelyn remained silent.

Janet lifted her chin and walked into the hospital.

Hannah was tending to Cordelia's ankle, using ice due to Cordelia's pregnancy.

Alaric stood by the door, his face cold, adding to Hannah's pressure.

"Ms. Stone, I'm sorry for hurting you. It wasn't intentional. I hope you can forgive me."

Janet stopped beside Alaric, looking at Cordelia.

Cordelia glanced at her with an indifferent expression and said nothing.

Janet looked cautiously at Alaric, feeling aggrieved seeing his cold gaze fixed on Cordelia.

"Dr. Lewis, I accidentally hurt my hand too. Could you take a look?"

She spoke to Hannah but aimed to get Alaric's attention.

Without looking up, Hannah replied coldly, "Ms. Martin, please make an appointment with a doctor."

Janet's face stiffened.

Cordelia seemed to recall something and looked at Janet. "Ms. Martin, you just got out of the hospital recently and rushed to work at the Stone Group. Now you've fallen again; you should get a thorough check-up."

"Even if the external wounds have healed, the internal ones might not have. Any complications could make it hard to conceive in the future."

Janet was taken aback by Cordelia's concern.

"Thanks for your concern, Ms. Stone."

Cordelia smiled graciously. "Never mind. I promised to help you and Mr. Hughes have two kids in three years. If you don't rest properly and hurt yourself, it would damage my reputation."

Alaric's face darkened at Cordelia's words.

"mS. Stone, you truly have a healer's heart."

Cordelia smiled. "As a doctor, I must always remember my duty."

Alaric snorted, not sparing Janet a glance, and walked out.

Janet watched him leave, biting her lip, and followed.

"Alaric."

He didn't slow down, striding into the elevator.

As the doors closed, he glanced at her. "Since you're at the Stone Group now, focus on your work and stop with the nonsense."

Janet stood frozen, his cold gaze lingering in her mind.

When she first returned to the country, Alaric had been polite and helpful.

What had changed?

Evelyn emerged from another elevator, seeing Janet. "Pack your things this afternoon and report to Luminary Ventures Group."

Janet snapped out of her thoughts. "Why?"

Evelyn smiled, stepping closer. "You want to get close to Alaric, don't you? Luminary Ventures Group is a joint venture between the Stone Group and the Hughes Group. You'll have more chances to see him there."

Janet hesitated.

Alaric knew her intentions at the Stone Group, and so did Evelyn.

It was just a way to get rid of her.

But it didn't matter. She already had enough evidence.

Once those photos were released, Evelyn's affair would cause a scandal.

Alaric would surely divorce Evelyn.

Then, she could expose Cordelia and Alaric's relationship, taking down both rivals.

"Alright."

Janet agreed.

Evelyn smiled, her eyes gleaming with cunning.

The Stone Manor.

Allegra's face changed seeing Cordelia in a wheelchair, pushed by Evelyn.

"What happened to Cordelia?"

Cordelia replied calmly, "It's nothing. I just twisted my ankle. It'll be fine after a few days' rest."

Donald rushed out, his expression darkening.

"How did this happen?"

Cordelia smiled lightly. "Dad, I'm fine. Don't worry."

Donald frowned. "If I had known, I wouldn't have let you go out."

He took the wheelchair from Evelyn, pushing Cordelia inside.

Evelyn checked the time. "I have work to do. I'll head back."

Donald nodded. "Take care."

Evelyn smiled. "Don't worry, Dad. I'll take care of myself."

She left The Stone Manor.

Near the end of the workday, she received a call from Calliope Bishop, the editor-in-chief of Stellar Daily.

"I have a scoop about your marriage to Alaric from the Hughes Group. Haven't you been close with Bruce lately? When did you marry Alaric?"

Evelyn chuckled coldly. Janet had just reported to Luminary Ventures Group and was already causing trouble.

If she didn't fully cooperate with Janet, it would be a waste of this drama.
