Chapter 69: And Still Not Breaking Up?

Chapter 69 And Still Not Breaking Up?

Half an hour later, Dominic walked out of The Stone Manor.

As he got into his car, he noticed another vehicle parked around the corner with no lights on, just a small red dot flickering.

Alaric was inside, his face cold and stern. He glanced at Dominic, put out his cigarette, and sped past Dominic's car.

Dominic watched for a moment before finally getting into his own car.

At the same time, Evelyn hadn't been feeling well lately, especially her stomach. Years of working through meal times had left her with a chronic condition.

Allegra had prepared lunch and was planning to take it to Evelyn.

Cordelia was at home, feeling restless.

"Allegra, let me take lunch to Evelyn. I want to visit the office anyway."

Allegra looked at Cordelia with concern. "Cordelia, you should stay home and rest."

Cordelia was pregnant, and it was worrisome to let her go out alone.

Donald, who was sitting on the couch reading a magazine, heard the conversation and chimed in.

"Let the driver take her. She might get too bored at home."

Cordelia grinned. "Dad, you always know me best."

Donald chuckled. "You can't stay idle."

"Once all the paperwork is done, we'll head to Astoria early."

Cordelia nodded. "Sure."

The Stone family's driver took Cordelia to the Stone Group.

Cordelia and Evelyn looked quite similar, though Cordelia had a gentler demeanor, while Evelyn was more of a cold beauty.

Even though Cordelia rarely visited the Stone Group, the receptionist recognized her as soon as she entered the lobby.

"Hello, Ms. Stone."

The receptionist greeted Cordelia warmly.

Cordelia smiled. "Good afternoon, everyone. Thanks for your hard work. I'll treat everyone to afternoon tea later."

The staff responded with gratitude.

Cordelia, still smiling, entered the elevator and headed straight to Evelyn's office floor.

As she stepped out of the elevator, she saw Janet in a suit, holding a folder, just coming out of Evelyn's office.

Janet looked like she had been reprimanded; her face was not looking good.

Cordelia's expression froze upon seeing her.

Janet was also taken aback.

"Dr. Stone."

Cordelia nodded slightly. "You work here?"

Janet replied, "Yes, I've been here for two days. Ms. Stone didn't tell you?"

Cordelia frowned, her eyes darkening. "A new employee joining isn't something my sister needs to inform me about."

Janet's face stiffened at her words.

Evelyn's secretary, Taylor, soon stepped out of Evelyn's office, noticing Cordelia and Janet together. She was about to explain when Cordelia smiled at her.

"I'm treating all the employees to coffee, Taylor. Could you inform each department to register the number of people and quantities? I'll cover the cost."

Taylor nodded respectfully and then looked at Janet, softly asking Cordelia.

"Everyone's been quite busy lately. Can Janet handle the registration?"

Cordelia nodded. "Sure."

With that, she stepped into Evelyn's office.

"Janet, please handle the registration and familiarize yourself with the company's departments."

Taylor glanced at Janet and spoke indifferently.

Janet finally looked away and nodded.

"Alright."

Taylor, one of the few people who knew about Cordelia's marriage to Alaric, was very dismissive of Janet. She couldn't understand what Alaric saw in Janet. In terms of character and appearance, Janet was no match for Cordelia.

Cordelia placed the lunchbox on the coffee table in Evelyn's office. Evelyn was reviewing some documents. Noticing someone entering, she looked up and saw Cordelia arranging the lunchbox. She put down her work and got up from her chair, walking over.

"Why are you here today? Did Allegra take a day off?" Evelyn asked, curious.

Cordelia shook her head. "I was bored at home and wanted to get out for a bit."

"When did Janet start working here? Why didn't you mention it?" Cordelia asked, her tone laced with curiosity and a hint of concern.

Evelyn closed the office door and sat on the couch, taking the bowl Cordelia handed her, smiling. "She's likely here to gather evidence of my affairs. Like you said, life can get dull. She came to me for entertainment, and I couldn't refuse." Evelyn's eyes gleamed with calculation.

Cordelia looked helpless. "Alaric and I are divorced, so it's unnecessary."

Evelyn set the lunchbox down, her gaze fixed on Cordelia. "And if you weren't divorced? Would you just swallow your pride and let her get worse? Cordelia, I know what I'm doing."

Cordelia nodded. "I know you do." But she didn't want Janet constantly around her family; it was revolting.

Janet finished the registration and brought the order to Cordelia. "Ms. Cordelia Stone, the total is forty-three thousand five hundred sixty dollars. The coffee shop said the order is too large and needs to be settled in one payment."

Cordelia nodded and promptly paid the amount. "Is it done?"

Janet saw the "payment successful" message and nodded, feeling heavy-hearted.

Cordelia's single sentence had cost her five months' salary. The wealth gap between them unsettled Janet.

Janet put away the order and turned to leave Evelyn's office. "We need to visit Luminary Ventures Group this afternoon. Janet, come with me."

Luminary Ventures Group was a company formed from early collaboration between the Hughes Group and the Stone Group, with both holding significant shares. Janet was naturally aware of this.

She nodded and agreed. "Okay, Ms. Evelyn Stone."

Evelyn glanced at her briefly before turning her attention to Cordelia. "Cordelia, come with me this afternoon."

Cordelia shook her head. "No." She didn't want to see Alaric.

Evelyn raised an eyebrow. "You're free right now, aren't you? Come with me and learn about the Stone Group's operations. If anything unexpected happens, you won't be in the dark."

Cordelia's expression changed slightly. "The Stone Group won't have any surprises, and neither will you and Dad."

Evelyn smiled, reaching out to ruffle her hair affectionately. "So, you'll come with me to Luminary Ventures Group?"

Cordelia nodded and agreed. "Alright. I'll go check it out."

Evelyn smiled contentedly.

Janet watched the close relationship between Evelyn and Cordelia, a hint of mockery in her eyes as she left Evelyn's office.

If Evelyn knew about Cordelia and Alaric's issues, would their relationship still be this good?

Janet gritted her teeth. Once she had gathered all the evidence, she wanted to see if Evelyn and Cordelia would still be so close.
