Chapter 325 Are You So Afraid of Taking Responsibility for Him?

After hearing Taylor's words, Cordelia turned to look out the car window and, sure enough, saw Alaric's car following behind them.

Evelyn glanced sideways at Cordelia, who was staring out the window, and said flatly.

"He saved you today, and he's been so good to you lately. Are you falling for him?"

Hearing Evelyn's words, Cordelia froze for a few seconds and fell silent.

Evelyn was her sister and should understand her complicated feelings during this time.

She couldn't deny it in front of Evelyn.

Seeing her bow her head in silence, Evelyn let out a soft sigh and said quietly.

"You've liked him for so many years, and he's done so much for you. It's normal that you'd be moved."

"But men's feelings can change. You can't put all your hopes on a man's affection."

"Cordelia, if he can't firmly choose only you for the rest of his life, then I'd advise you not to remarry."

Listening to Evelyn's words, Cordelia nodded seriously.

"I understand, Evelyn."

Evelyn hummed in acknowledgement and didn't continue the topic, simply gazing quietly out the window.

Cordelia seemed gentle and generous, as if nothing truly bothered her, but deep down, she was the one who cared the most.

Janet had made her suffer for so many years.

With someone like Alaric, there would be many more women trying to get close to him in the future.

Evelyn didn't want Cordelia to get hurt because of love.

Women shouldn't put all their emotions solely into romance.

Taylor listened quietly from the front seat She had witnessed Cordelia and Alaric's three-year marriage, and Cordelia's state during those three years had indeed been terrible.

Cordelia had grown up privileged and carefree, cheerful and free-spirited, but had forced herself to become a reserved, well-mannered woman whose every gesture was absolutely flawless—the perfect trophy wife.

That's why, when Evelyn saw Joan, who only slightly resembled Cordelia, she kept Joan by her side as an assistant.

Joan was lively and active, indeed quite similar to Cordelia from before.

As they approached the Stone Manor, Evelyn said to Taylor flatly.

"Stop at the Stone Manor entrance in a bit, then drive the car back. Thanks for your hard work tonight."

Hearing Evelyn's words, Taylor nodded gently, "Thank you, Ms. Stone."

Evelyn didn't respond.

When they reached the Stone Manor entrance, Taylor stopped the car. As she got out to open the door for Evelyn, Evelyn opened it herself and got out.

Taylor just stood to the side. After Evelyn got out, she said flatly.

"You can go back now."

Taylor nodded, "Okay, Ms. Stone."

Evelyn glanced expressionlessly at the car that had also stopped not far away.

After Alaric got out, he walked toward them.

He had already changed his clothes, showing no sign of the urgency and dishevelment from rescuing Cordelia on the yacht.

He walked up to Cordelia and said softly, his tone questioning.

"Cordelia, my wound got soaked in seawater just now. Does it need to be treated?"

Cordelia's expression stiffened slightly as she reached out to pull up his injured right hand to examine it.

Earlier on the yacht, she had been worried about Hannah and the others' situation and had completely forgotten that Alaric's hand had just had its stitches removed this morning.

"It does need treatment."

Now the area around Alaric's wound had turned somewhat pale from being soaked in water.

Alaric looked at her serious and concerned expression and said quietly again.

"Right now, my palm is stinging a bit and feels uncomfortable, but I can bear it."

Standing to the side, Evelyn raised an eyebrow at his words.

Alaric was six-foot-two and standing there in front of her sister, acting all pitiful—why did that just make her want to hit him?

Evelyn looked particularly disgusted, but considering he had saved Cordelia tonight, she didn't make things difficult for him and turned to walk toward the Stone Manor.

The outdoor lighting wasn't clear enough to see the details of Alaric's hand. Cordelia let go of his hand and said seriously.

"Let's go inside and take a look first."

Alaric nodded and followed.

Cordelia hadn't asked about his hand's condition on the yacht, and after getting off the boat, she seemed to have forgotten about it too.

Following all the way to the Stone Manor, sitting in the car, Alaric's heart had felt like it was stuck with thorns.

Now, seeing the worry and distress faintly showing in Cordelia's eyes, the thorns in his heart were finally pulled out.

Evelyn walked to the Stone family entrance, and the security personnel immediately opened the door.

Just as she was about to step inside, a car drove up to the Stone Manor entrance and stopped.

The car was going fast and screeched when it braked.

All three stopped and looked over at the same time.

After Bruce stopped the car, he immediately opened the door and got out.

"Evelyn..."

He had heard about what happened on the yacht. When he rushed to the dock, he was told Evelyn had already left, so he hurried to the Stone Manor.

This was Bruce's newly bought car, so Evelyn hadn't recognized it earlier.

Now, seeing Bruce get out of the car, a flash of disgust passed through Evelyn's eyes.

She looked away and turned to enter the Stone family home.

Bruce ran up in big strides and grabbed Evelyn's arm.

"Evelyn, let's talk."

Evelyn looked at Bruce's hand gripping her arm tightly, her face immediately turning cold and stern as she said.

"Let go."

Cordelia reached out to grab Bruce's wrist, trying to remove his hand from her sister's arm.

But Bruce held onto Evelyn tightly and refused to let go.

The security personnel, worried Bruce might hurt Evelyn, immediately stepped forward.

Evelyn looked at his bloodshot eyes and stubborn attitude and said flatly.

"If you let go of me, I'll talk with you."

Hearing this, Bruce hesitated and let go.

Evelyn's eyes were cold as she stood in place and said to Cordelia sideways.

"You take Mr. Hughes inside first to treat his wound."

Cordelia was a bit worried. She still clearly remembered how Bruce had raised his hand to hit Evelyn the last time she hurt him.

So Cordelia stood there, unwilling to leave.

Seeing her like this, Evelyn chuckled and said.

"I've never lost out when I'm outside. In my own home, would I lose out?"

Alaric glanced at Bruce, his eyes carrying a slight warning.

If Bruce acted up again today, no one could save him.

Bruce's eyes showed a hint of defeat.

He had been regretting his behavior at the golf course that day.

Alaric looked at him once, then withdrew his gaze and said softly to Cordelia beside him.

"Let's go inside first. Don't worry, I'll have Robert watch here. He definitely won't let Bruce hurt Ms. Stone."

Evelyn glanced at Alaric, then said softly to Cordelia.

"Hurry up and take Mr. Hughes inside to bandage his wound. Otherwise, if his hand is ruined and you're held responsible, it won't be worth it."

Seeing the Stone family security personnel standing behind Evelyn, Cordelia nodded.

"Okay."

She looked at Bruce once, then turned and walked into the Stone Manor.

Alaric watched her back, stunned for a few seconds, then smiled bitterly.

Was she that afraid of being responsible for him?
