Chapter 198 Those Jewel-like Eyes Have Already Taken on a Hint of Coldness
Sebastian: ”Is that Ms. Stone?”
Jack: ”Looks like it.”
Sebastian immediately deleted his message.
Jack quickly did the same and neither of them dared to say anything at that moment.
They all knew that Alaric was quite interested in Cordelia right now.
Bruce and Alaric had grown up together, so naturally he wasn't afraid.
When he saw the video, he immediately held his phone up to Evelyn, who was still working.
"I didn't expect Cordelia to be so wild."
Evelyn glanced sideways at the video playing on his phone, then lifted up Bruce's shirt.
"If you don't start working out again, I'll have to find myself one like that too."
Bruce had been indulging in Evelyn's affection lately and had slacked off on exercise.
He looked down at his muscles, which still showed some definition, pouted, put away his phone, and went to the gym next door to work out furiously for an hour.
During that time, he didn't forget to @ Alaric in the group chat and sent a picture of himself working out.
He captioned it: "Starting my workout."
Alaric had just finished dealing with Mark's situation and personally watched Mark being taken away in a police car. Feeling his phone vibrating constantly, he took it out and glanced at it.
He noticed Bruce's tagged message, scrolled up and saw Julian's video. His veins bulged as he held the phone tighter.
Janet was frightened and stood to the side with someone supporting her.
Her legs felt weak. The situation had been critical earlier—Mark had almost really jumped from the building with her.
Throughout the entire negotiation with Mark, Alaric remained calm, his eyes showing no concern for her whatsoever.
Now that Mark had been taken away, he hadn't come over to check on her even once.
Janet felt wronged. She walked up to Alaric.
"Alaric, I was so scared. Can you come with me to the hospital?"
Mark had just held a knife to her neck. The blade was sharp and had pierced her skin. The bleeding had stopped now, but she was still very shaken.
Alaric was completely absorbed by his phone.
He had a privacy screen protector on it, so Janet couldn't see what was on Alaric's phone.
She stood nervously to the side, looking completely weak.
"Alaric."
He took a deep breath, his chest heaving.
With a cold expression, he put away his phone and walked toward the car, as if completely unaware of Janet's presence.
Janet's face stiffened. She stumbled a few steps and grabbed him.
"Alaric, I'm injured."
Alaric opened the car door, his eyes cold and indifferent.
Robert had already finished talking with the investigators and was walking toward Alaric.
Coldly, Alaric pulled Janet's hand off his sleeve.
"Take her to the hospital."
Robert immediately nodded in agreement, "Yes, Mr. Hughes."
Janet stubbornly clutched at Alaric's sleeve. "Alaric, can't you just come with me once?"
Alaric looked down coldly at his sleeve.
Janet's expression changed slightly. From gripping too hard, her fingertips had lost some color.
Noticing Alaric's impatient look, her hand naturally dropped.
Without hesitating, he got into the car, shut the door, turned the engine on and drove away.
Janet stood frozen in place, staring blankly as Alaric's car drove away right before her eyes.
She bit her lip hard, feeling somewhat lost.
Robert stood in front of her and made a gesture of invitation.
"Ms. Martin, I'll take you to the hospital."
Janet bit her lip hard and followed behind Robert.
She thought Robert would drive her to the hospital, but instead, Robert guided her to an ambulance.
The medical staff on the ambulance immediately began examining Janet's injuries.
Janet's expression showed some dissatisfaction.
"Didn't Alaric tell you to take me to the hospital?"
Robert nodded. "The ambulance will go to the hospital. I'll drive behind the ambulance. Ms. Martin doesn't need to worry."
Janet frowned, realizing Robert's intention, and said coldly.
"You don't want me in the car?"
"That's Alaric's car, not yours. You're just a driver, just an assistant!"
Janet's words had no effect on Robert whatsoever.
His attitude remained the same. "Precisely because it's Mr. Hughes's car, I can't take it upon myself to let Ms. Martin get in."
"That car is Mr. Hughes's personal vehicle. Mr. Hughes has instructed that no one except Ms. Stone can sit in it."
Janet's face suddenly stiffened.
Robert stood to the side with a calm expression.
Alaric hadn't actually said that, but the only ones who'd sat in the backseat of his car were Alaric and Cordelia.
Robert had learned from the investigators earlier that Janet had been in close contact with Mark before and had used her status as Alaric's first girlfriend to get some inside information from Mark for investment purposes.
After Mark was fired by Alaric, he went to Janet, thinking that the information he'd previously leaked to her had also made her money.
Now that he was in trouble, he expected her to help him but Janet wouldn't even see him.
Before deciding to kidnap Janet, Mark had actually considered kidnapping Cordelia.
After all, Cordelia was Alaric's ex-wife.
But during this time, there had been no contact at all between Alaric and Cordelia.
Also, Evelyn wasn't someone to mess with.
Intentionally or not, Janet had been revealing to him just how close her relationship with Alaric was.
So Mark decided to take the risk and kidnap Janet, threatening Alaric to destroy the evidence of his crimes.
However, this decision only angered Alaric and to eliminate future troubles, he directly submitted all the evidence. With all these charges, Mark wouldn't be able to walk properly by the time he'd get out of prison.
At the bar...
Under the influence of alcohol and music, everyone's emotions were running high.
Harry was really good at hyping up the atmosphere.
He took the initiative to go to the DJ booth to spin, and with him there, the atmosphere was pushed to one peak after another.
Hannah sat down next to Cordelia, keeping watch over her while playing games with a young man beside her.
She could hold her liquor well. Despite drinking quite a bit, she showed no signs of being drunk.
Hannah chased away any man who wanted to come over and play games with Cordelia, just so she wouldn't be taken advantage of.
After finishing his work, Herschel saw Cordelia leaning on the sofa, her cheeks flushed, her gem-like eyes already tinged with haziness.
He walked over and placed a glass of water on the table for Cordelia.
She felt drowsy and leaned toward Hannah.
Seeing this, Herschel was about to help her when someone suddenly grabbed his hand.
He paused and looked to the side, only to see Alaric standing beside him with a cold expressionless face.
Julian was a major shareholder of the bar, and occasionally he would invite Alaric, Bruce, and others over, so Herschel had seen Alaric a few times.
"Mr. Hughes, you're free tonight too."
He took the initiative to greet him with a flattering smile on his face.
But Alaric didn't even glance at him. He walked in front of Cordelia, bent down, and picked her intoxicated self up from the sofa.
Cordelia became a bit sober as she was suddenly lifted up, and she immediately struggled and said, "Put me down."
