Chapter 159 Sticky and Uncomfortable Body
After Alaric entered the suite, he took off his coat and went into the bathroom to shower.
Having sat on a plane for two hours, he felt sticky and uncomfortable all over.
Robert took this opportunity to unpack Alaric's luggage and hang everything in the closet.
After finishing up, he left the walk-in closet and walked into the living room, where he saw the hotel manager standing at the door with a very respectful expression on his face.
The manager was slightly bent at the waist, taking the initiative to greet Robert.
"Robert, this is the lunch prepared for you and Mr. Hughes. Would you and Mr. Hughes like to eat now?"
Robert nodded, "Bring it in."
Hearing this, the manager immediately had the food cart pushed in. While the server was setting out the dishes, he walked over to Robert's side and asked in a low voice.
"Ms. Martin has left. Does the hotel need to open up the backend system to allow guests to book rooms?"
Robert thought about Janet's persistent nature and hesitated for a moment. If there were vacant rooms here, Janet would definitely book one and check in right away. He let out a sigh - for these two days, even if it meant losing business, he couldn't upset Alaric.
"Not for now."
"I'll contact you after I check with Mr. Hughes."
The hotel manager nodded repeatedly. Seeing that the server had finished arranging the dishes, he left respectfully.
Robert took out Alaric's medication from his carry-on bag, placed it on the table, and checked the dosing schedule.
Some of the medications were marked to be taken before meals.
When Alaric came out of the bedroom wearing casual clothes, Robert stepped forward to remind him.
"Mr. Hughes, it's time to take your medication."
"I know." Alaric didn't even glance at the medication on the table and turned back to the bedroom.
Robert was puzzled.
Alaric walked straight to the bed, picked up his phone, and opened the chat window on social media - Cordelia hadn't sent a single message.
As his attending physician, Cordelia hadn't even sent a word of concern.
Alaric's eyes darkened slightly. He exited the chat window and called Cordelia directly.
Cordelia had just returned to her office from the emergency department when she felt her phone vibrating in her pocket. She took it out and glanced at it.
She hadn't saved Alaric's number, but she knew this string of digits by heart.
"What is it?" She answered the call, putting the phone to her ear, her tone casual.
At that moment, a colleague passed by and asked to borrow a book from her.
Cordelia nodded, tilting her head to hold the phone between her shoulder and ear while helping her colleague find the book.
Alaric heard her flat tone and his breathing grew heavier, slightly displeased.
"Would I call you if there was nothing?"
Cordelia didn't respond to Alaric's words but pulled out the book and handed it to her colleague.
Her colleague said "thank you" quietly and left.
Alaric also heard the commotion on Cordelia's end and felt irritated that she could be distracted while talking to him. A small flame of anger ignited in his heart.
"How do I take the medication?"
Cordelia paused, her brow furrowing slightly.
"With your mouth, of course."
Alaric was speechless.
"I'm asking about the dosage!"
Cordelia suddenly understood. "Aren't there labels on the medicine boxes? Once a day, how many pills per dose, how many milliliters per dose - I've marked everything."
Alaric was stunned and fell silent for a few seconds. "I don't see any labels."
Outside in the suite, Robert, relying on his years of experience working for Alaric, immediately figured out what Alaric and Cordelia were talking about.
He quickly walked over, peeled off all the labels from the medicine boxes, then walked to the bedroom door and said in a low voice.
"Ms. Stone may have forgotten to put on the labels. There really aren't any labels on the medicine boxes."
Alaric glanced at Robert, a hint of appreciation in his deep eyes.
Cordelia also heard Robert's words, her expression becoming somewhat serious.
She had clearly instructed the pharmacy staff to remember to put on the labels. Could they have been too busy and forgotten?
"Send me pictures of all the medications, and I'll mark them for you."
Alaric was satisfied and responded, "You right now—"
He was about to ask Cordelia what she was doing when she had already hung up.
Alaric heard the busy tone from his phone. Frowning, he took the phone away from his ear, saw that Cordelia had hung up, and his expression immediately darkened.
Seeing this, Robert immediately lowered his head and shuffled a few steps toward the living room, trying to minimize his presence.
Alaric's eyes darkened as he walked out of the bedroom with a cold expression. Walking into the living room and seeing the medication on the table, he directly video-called Cordelia.
Cordelia put her phone back in her pocket, left her office, and headed for the cafeteria.
She had just put away her phone when Alaric's video call came through.
She took out her phone, glanced at it, and casually answered.
Alaric's handsome, perfect features appeared on the screen.
Looking at him through the video, Cordelia felt a strange sensation in her heart.
This was her first video call with Alaric.
Three years ago, before their divorce, Alaric never initiated video calls with her.
And he never answered her video call requests either.
"I thought Mr. Hughes didn't know how to use the video call function on social media."
She smiled faintly, her eyes containing a hint of sarcasm.
He rarely used the video call function. Over the years, apart from Ruth, he hadn't video-called anyone else - except for work-related video conferences, of course.
Looking at Cordelia on his phone, his heart stirred, as if the phone he was holding had taken on Cordelia's warmth.
His hand holding the phone couldn't help but tighten slightly. The camera on Cordelia's end kept moving, as if she was walking.
"Where are you going?"
He asked.
Cordelia calmly glanced at Alaric on her phone screen, not directly answering his question.
"Point your phone camera at the medications."
A flash of displeasure crossed Alaric's eyes as he pointed the camera at the medications.
He stared intently at Cordelia's every move on the screen.
He saw that Cordelia's previously casual expression immediately became serious after seeing the medications.
She looked carefully for a few seconds, then hung up the video call directly.
Alaric was confused and sent a "?" over.
In less than two minutes, Cordelia had sent over information about how many times a day to take each medication and the dosage for each time.
She even specifically noted whether to take them before or after meals.
Alaric looked at these few lines of text with a dark expression and waited for a while.
He had thought Cordelia would send some caring words.
But then the chat window remained completely silent.
His deep eyes grew darker and darker, and he threw his phone onto the side of the sofa, venting his dissatisfaction.
When Robert came out of his small room, he saw Alaric's deflated appearance.
His feet, which had just quickly stepped out, immediately retreated back, afraid that the anger Cordelia had ignited in Alaric would burn him too.
