Chapter 147 She Has Donald and Evelyn's Support, Naturally Different from Ordinary People
Janet was stunned by Alaric's words, her expression stiffening a bit. But she quickly regained her composure, smiled faintly, and said helplessly.
"I never did anything to offend Dr. Stone. If she doesn't like me, there's nothing I can do about it."
She bent down to look at Alaric's swollen arm and smiled. "Looks like I'm not the only one Dr. Stone doesn't like."
"Your hand is so swollen. Could Dr. Stone be deliberately getting back at you?"
Alaric's eyes darkened as he glanced at the bruising on the back of his right hand, his face turning cold.
The medical staff hired by Sunrise Valley Hospital were all top-notch practitioners in Shadowpine.
Their skills couldn't possibly be that poor.
That nurse earlier was clearly inexperienced, obviously a new intern who hadn't practiced much.
Cordelia didn't like him, so she deliberately arranged for an unskilled intern to give him the injection.
Janet knew her relationship with Alaric could never go back to what it was.
Alaric didn't like seeing her either, but she couldn't just give up. Even if she couldn't be Alaric's girlfriend, she had to stay by his side as a friend.
Alaric's future wife could be anyone, but absolutely not Cordelia.
She had already lost to Cordelia once and didn't want to lose a second time.
"You seem to be in good spirits. Looks like you don't need anyone to look after you. I won't disturb your rest then."
After speaking, Janet walked toward the door of Alaric's hospital room.
When she reached the door and saw that Alaric, lying in bed, showed no response at all, she felt unwilling and couldn't help but look back.
She saw Alaric leaning against the bed, looking out the window, with absolutely no intention of responding to her.
Janet took a deep breath and swallowed the words of goodbye she wanted to say again. Her throat felt blocked, making her extremely uncomfortable.
She bit her lip lightly and walked out of Alaric's room with a stern face.
After leaving the room, she didn't leave immediately but went to the doctors' office. After asking around, she finally found Cordelia's office.
Cordelia was sitting in her office reading.
Alaric was her only patient, and her current task was to treat him.
With Janet in Alaric's room, she had more free time.
She had to publish an academic research paper next month, so she was taking this time to study.
Sunlight streamed through the window onto Cordelia, enveloping her entire body. She seemed to be bathed in a halo of light, gentle and serene.
Janet saw this scene when she arrived at Cordelia's office door.
She frowned slightly, a flash of jealousy in her eyes. With a heavy look, she knocked on the door, breaking the tranquility.
"Dr. Stone, I hope I'm not disturbing you?"
Seeing Janet standing at the door, Cordelia's eyes dimmed. She put away her book and glanced at her expressionlessly.
"If I said you were disturbing me, would you leave?"
Janet paused, but quickly maintained her smile. "Of course not."
"You're Alaric's attending physician now. I have no choice but to disturb you."
Cordelia's eyes were indifferent.
Janet pressed her lips together and continued, "As long as Dr. Stone is Alaric's attending physician, I'll inevitably have to disturb you."
Cordelia glanced at her and stood up from her chair. "You mean you want the hospital to replace me as his attending physician?"
Janet smiled faintly. "I didn't say that."
Looking at her smile, Cordelia raised an eyebrow and said casually.
"Even if you did say that, it wouldn't matter. Ms. Martin doesn't have the authority to make such decisions at Sunrise Valley Hospital."
The smile on Janet's face faded somewhat.
Cordelia curved her lips, picked up her water glass, took a light sip, and when her beautiful eyes swept across Janet's face, they carried a hint of mockery.
"Alaric probably hasn't thought about replacing me as his attending physician either, so you're rushing here to provoke me, hoping I'll drop him as a patient myself?"
Every cell in Janet's body was irritated by Cordelia's look. The hand holding her purse couldn't help but clench and then release.
"Dr. Stone, you're really overthinking this. I don't mean that at all. Besides, you and Alaric are already divorced. Why would I care so much about your existence as his attending physician?"
"Alaric hasn't replaced you because in his eyes, you're just his doctor. If he actually replaced you, that would prove he really cares about your presence, and then I should be worried."
Janet's face regained its smile.
Cordelia looked at her expressionlessly and didn't respond.
Janet's eyes smiled, her mood improving slightly.
"I came to ask about Alaric's condition. Recently, Alaric needs to accompany me to Silverlake Springs to discuss a business deal and take a vacation to relax. So I want to know when Alaric can be discharged?"
Cordelia heard the boasting in Janet's words, her expression cooling.
"I can't give you a definite answer to that question."
Janet pressed her lips together. "Then could he take one day off? Alaric could take a day to go there, then come back the next day to continue his hospital stay."
Cordelia's eyes turned cold. "What do you think a hospital is?"
Seeing some anger in Cordelia's eyes, Janet smiled.
"I wasn't thinking clearly. Over the years, whenever there's a new business partner inviting me, it's mostly Alaric who accompanies me. This time without Alaric—"
Before she could finish, Cordelia interrupted coldly.
"That just shows Ms. Martin's work abilities aren't up to par. No wonder even with Julian and Alaric backing you, you're still just a small-time influencer with a million followers."
Janet's face darkened.
Cordelia's words hit her sore spot directly.
Julian had indeed given her advantages, but over these three years, Alaric hadn't helped her at all, hadn't given her a single resource.
Seeing Janet's face gradually turn ashen, Cordelia smiled gently.
"With two such top-tier investors behind you, you can only achieve this much. I really don't understand what Ms. Martin has to show off about in front of me."
"Why don't you share these two men with people who really need them? Maybe Shadowpine could produce a few more international superstars."
The smile on Janet's face completely collapsed and turned cold.
"I know Dr. Stone comes from a good background, with your sister and father backing you. Naturally, you're different from ordinary people like us."
"But—"
Cordelia interrupted coldly.
"But Ms. Martin, you still don't understand. What you're desperately striving for is within my easy reach. So what you were showing off about just now was just a waste of words and a waste of my precious time."
