Chapter 145 After Divorce, We are Strangers
Seeing his cold face and no response to her words, Cordelia calmly withdrew her gaze, glanced at the time, and sat to the side waiting.
Her current task was to cure Alaric's stomach problems and adjust his lifestyle habits.
So she wasn't just Alaric's attending physician, but also his family doctor.
After Cordelia tucked the thermometer in place and retreated to sit on the sofa reading, Alaric felt an inexplicable sense of being ignored.
"I want water."
His voice was low and somewhat hoarse.
Cordelia's eyes remained fixed on the book in her hands, not even lifting her head.
"You're about to get a gastroscopy, you can't eat or drink anything. Just hold on a bit. After I take your temperature, we'll go do the gastroscopy."
Her voice was very light and soft, like she was talking to a child.
Alaric frowned. Thinking about how her attitude when talking to him last night was completely different, he couldn't help but feel that being Cordelia's patient wasn't so bad.
But he quickly pushed that thought away.
Five minutes later, Cordelia put down her book right on time, got up and walked to Alaric's side. Glancing at the thermometer now completely hidden inside his clothes, she said calmly.
"Take out the thermometer."
Alaric lying on the bed showed no reaction, just glanced at her without making any move.
"You put it in, so you take it out yourself."
Cordelia raised an eyebrow.
She didn't mind helping Alaric take it out, but her hands were a bit cold and she was afraid of startling him with the chill.
Seeing him say this, Cordelia didn't stand on ceremony and reached directly into his collar.
His body was warm, while her hand was ice cold.
The moment her hand went in, goosebumps rose on Alaric's skin, clearly startled by the cold.
His expression immediately darkened, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly as his deep eyes fell on Cordelia, giving her a heavy look.
The corners of Cordelia's lips curved into a faint smile. Pretending not to see his silent complaint, she reached in and pulled out the thermometer to check it.
"No high fever."
After speaking, she shook the thermometer, then turned to put it back in its box.
Alaric watched her back with deep eyes, the skin she had inadvertently touched still tingling with cold.
He frowned and remained silent.
After putting away the thermometer, Cordelia turned around and pulled back the sheets on the hospital bed.
"Let's go do the examination first."
Alaric got up with a cold face. As he got out of bed, his vision suddenly went black and his head spun with dizziness.
Seeing this, Cordelia naturally reached out to support his waist.
"What's wrong?"
She asked with concern.
Alaric just glanced at her hand on his waist, his expression slightly darkening.
Cordelia also realized where his attention was and raised an eyebrow, then withdrew her hand.
He had severe germaphobia, and he also mistakenly believed she had romantic entanglements with both Dominic and Thomas.
In his eyes right now, she was a promiscuous woman.
The kind of dirty woman that existed in his subconscious, so her touch would make him very uncomfortable.
Her eyes dimmed a bit as she said quietly.
"It was instinctive, I didn't mean to take advantage of you."
After speaking, she walked toward the door of the hospital room.
When she reached the doorway and saw Alaric still standing in place with no intention of moving, she said, "Let's go do the examination first."
"If you want to change doctors later, that's fine too."
Hearing this, Alaric's eyes darkened slightly as he gave her a cold look.
"I'm dizzy."
Cordelia paused, remembering that Alaric had fainted last night and hadn't eaten anything this morning, so feeling dizzy was quite normal.
Standing at the door, a flash of hesitation crossed her eyes, then she asked.
"Do you need me to help you?"
Alaric looked at Cordelia coldly, "What do you think?"
Cordelia raised an eyebrow, "You have germaphobia, you probably don't like women like me who are good at moving between multiple men."
"I'll call a nurse aide for you."
Alaric took a deep breath, his face growing even colder.
"Cordelia Stone!"
He called her full name with displeasure.
Cordelia saw the anger contained in his eyes. She said nothing more and walked over, "How should I help you?"
Alaric's face was cold.
"However you normally help patients, help me that way."
Cordelia nodded, reached out to put her arm around Alaric's waist, then lifted his arm to rest on her shoulder.
Alaric's face grew cold, and he felt even angrier inside.
Was this intimate posture how she normally helped patients?
Cordelia supported Alaric all the way to the examination room.
After arriving at the examination room, Cordelia helped Alaric lie on his side on the examination bed.
The staff in the examination room were doing disinfection work. When they brought over the tube, Alaric instinctively grabbed the corner of Cordelia's clothes.
Cordelia glanced at his hand and knew he was scared.
After all, getting a gastroscopy was indeed very uncomfortable.
She stood quietly beside Alaric, letting him hold onto the corner of her clothes.
After the examination ended, Alaric still hadn't let go.
Cordelia glanced at his tightly clenched hand and smiled softly.
"Mr. Hughes, next time if you're scared, you can tell me. I'll ask the examining doctor to be gentler."
Alaric withdrew his hand with a cold face.
Cordelia glanced at him calmly, her expression unchanged.
The examination report wasn't out yet, but the results could be seen on the computer right away.
So after Alaric let go of her clothes, Cordelia immediately walked toward the examining doctor.
The examining doctor was sitting in front of the computer reviewing the data. Cordelia walked over, leaned down and brought her head close to look.
One of her hands rested on the chair as her eyes focused intently on Alaric's examination report just taken.
Occasionally they communicated using professional terms that Alaric couldn't understand.
The examining doctor was male, and facing Cordelia's closeness, he showed no signs of backing away. Clearly they often communicated this way.
Alaric's eyes darkened slightly, feeling stifled inside. He got up from the bed with a cold face and walked out of the examination room.
The gastroscopy examination was really too uncomfortable. Alaric just felt his stomach churning with a feeling of wanting to vomit, but he had eaten almost nothing last night and hadn't drunk a drop of water this morning, so even if he wanted to vomit, nothing would come out.
After walking a few steps, his head spun with dizziness again. He reached out to support himself against the door frame.
Hearing the sound, Cordelia turned to look at Alaric. Seeing his stubborn appearance, her eyes dimmed slightly. She walked over and placed his hand on her shoulder.
"Mr. Hughes, you still need to take care of your body."
Alaric stopped walking and looked down at Cordelia supporting him, his eyes indifferent.
"What if I don't take care of it?"
Cordelia paused, looked up at Alaric, and frowned slightly.
Before she could speak, she heard Alaric say calmly.
"Just like you said last night, you and I are already divorced. Whether I take care of my body or not is my own business and has nothing to do with you."
"In your eyes, I'm just a stranger you divorced. In my eyes, it's the same."
