Chapter 130 Dominic Doesn't Deserve Such a Cute Daughter!
Seeing Cordelia at a loss for words, Dominic chuckled softly.
"Three years ago, you said we were just friends. All these years, I've been treating you as a friend too."
"Cordelia, can't we even be friends anymore?"
Though his face still wore that gentle, spring-breeze-like smile as always, the pain in his eyes was clearly visible to Cordelia.
Cordelia didn't know how to respond. She moved her lips, but before she could speak, Dominic continued.
"Does even our friendship burden you?"
Cordelia paused, then quickly shook her head. "No, not at all."
Hearing this, Dominic smiled faintly and replied, "That's good then."
Cordelia smiled awkwardly.
Seeing the silence, Dominic smiled calmly, withdrew his gaze to look straight ahead, and the two drove all the way to the airport without Cordelia saying another word.
At the airport entrance.
Cordelia stopped the car.
Dominic opened the back door, got out, and went to get his luggage.
Cordelia also got out and accompanied Dominic inside the airport.
"You can see me off here."
Dominic, who was walking ahead, stopped and turned to look at Cordelia following behind him, his tone gentle.
"I'm going back to Astoria this time, and I don't know when I'll be back. But I'll still take your advice and meet that girl."
Hearing this, Cordelia looked up at Dominic with a slight smile.
"Mrs. Gray told me that girl is really nice. Maybe if you try getting to know her, you'll end up liking her?"
The smile on Dominic's face stiffened slightly. Being urged by the person you like to like someone else—there's nothing more heartbreaking than that.
He took a breath and reached out to ruffle Cordelia's hair.
"You're still the same as before, wearing your likes and dislikes on your face. Anyone can tell what you're thinking at a glance."
Cordelia was speechless.
Dominic sighed. "I really regret choosing to go abroad when our relationship was at its best. Otherwise, I'd still have a chance to compete with him."
Cordelia pressed her lips together. When Dominic had immigrated abroad with the Gray family years ago, she had indeed been sad for a long time.
But who could have predicted what would happen later?
She and Dominic had been close back then, but they weren't boyfriend and girlfriend.
She looked up at Dominic and said with a smile, "Dominic, we need to look forward."
Dominic smiled helplessly. "You tell me to look forward, but aren't you the same, unable to forget Alaric?"
How could Dominic not understand what was in her heart?
During that time, she had already prepared to start working at a local hospital in Astoria.
But as soon as the rumors about Alaric's engagement came out, she rushed back to Shadowpine without delay.
Cordelia fell silent.
Dominic smiled calmly and withdrew his hand. "Let's get together next time I'm back."
Cordelia nodded, just standing there quietly, watching his retreating figure, feeling inexplicably heavy-hearted.
In fact, she and Dominic were the same—wanting something but unable to have it.
Robert accompanied Alaric to the airport to see off an important business partner from the Hughes Group.
They had just seen the person off to the plane, and Robert was still reporting work to Alaric when Alaric suddenly stopped in his tracks.
Robert couldn't stop in time and nearly bumped into Alaric's back.
Following Alaric's gaze, he saw Dominic's hand stroking Cordelia's hair in the center of the airport not far away, the two of them talking about something.
The reluctance in Cordelia's eyes was almost overflowing.
Robert felt the previously calm atmosphere suddenly become tense.
Seeing Alaric walking toward them, he couldn't help but take a deep breath.
Alaric walked up beside Cordelia and stopped.
Sensing someone approaching, Cordelia snapped back to reality. Seeing it was Alaric, her eyes flickered slightly, but she quickly calmed down.
"Is Mr. Hughes going on a business trip?"
Alaric's expression was cold as he looked toward the boarding gate.
"You stayed overnight at my place last night. Isn't your boyfriend jealous?"
Cordelia immediately frowned.
Dominic, pulling his luggage toward the boarding gate, couldn't help but look back at Cordelia, only to see Alaric standing beside her.
He immediately stopped in his tracks.
Seeing Dominic turn to look their way, Alaric's eyes darkened. He moved a step closer to Cordelia, his gaze challenging.
From Dominic's angle, Cordelia's back appeared almost pressed against Alaric.
His expression changed slightly. He took a deep breath, withdrew his gaze, and strode away.
Seeing that Dominic showed no reaction to him standing with Cordelia, Alaric's eyes turned cold.
"Seems your boyfriend doesn't care much about you either."
"Doesn't care who you're entangled with."
Hearing Alaric's words trying to drive a wedge between them, Cordelia turned to look at him.
"Then why don't you tell me, Mr. Hughes, who exactly am I entangled with?"
Alaric frowned.
Cordelia smiled faintly and deliberately moved away from Alaric. "Is it that Mr. Hughes wants to be entangled with me, or that I'm entangled with Mr. Hughes? You should make that clear. After all, I don't really want to be entangled with a man who has a fiancée."
Alaric's eyes turned cold.
"You don't want to be entangled with a man who has a fiancée? If I remember correctly, when you got together with Dominic, he had a fiancée too."
Cordelia looked at Alaric quietly and thought seriously for a moment.
"Then I misspoke. I simply don't want to be entangled with Mr. Hughes specifically. Is that okay?"
Her smile was mischievous. After speaking, she walked past him.
Alaric felt suffocated, his face cold as he turned to watch Cordelia's retreating figure.
Robert stood to the side with his head down, afraid that Alaric's pent-up anger would burn him.
A call from the CEO's office successfully rescued him.
He immediately turned to answer the phone.
Secretary Clio's voice came through. "Donald and Amber have come to the Hughes Group. They're here to see Mr. Hughes."
Hearing this, Robert turned to Alaric. "Mr. Hughes, Donald and Amber are at the Hughes Group."
Alaric's gloomy eyes flickered. He suppressed the coldness and walked out of the airport.
Amber was being held by Donald, her big round eyes staring straight at Clio as she asked politely.
"May I speak with Mr. Hughes?"
Clio couldn't refuse such a polite request from such a beautiful child. She hesitated, then said softly to Robert, "Amber wants to speak with Mr. Hughes."
Robert immediately looked at Alaric and carefully spoke up.
"Mr. Hughes, Amber wants to speak with you."
Hearing this, Alaric took Robert's phone.
Clio handed the receiver to Amber.
Amber held the receiver with both hands, put it to her ear, her voice sweet and well-behaved.
"Mr. Hughes."
Hearing that sweet little voice, Alaric's heart felt sweet, but also frustrated.
How could Dominic have such an adorable daughter!
If only this daughter were his! That would be wonderful.
