Chapter 128 Fell into His Word Trap
Cordelia looked at him in this state, and her heart softened a bit. She finally lay quietly in his arms, finding a comfortable position.
"Go to sleep already."
She said in a low voice, with a hint of resentment in her tone.
He was drunk and couldn't tell reality from dreams apart. She didn't want to waste energy arguing with him.
When dawn broke, she would just leave. By then, Alaric should still be asleep.
Seeing Cordelia nestle into his embrace, Alaric's heart trembled slightly. He held her tightly and pulled up the blanket from one side to cover them.
Cordelia was getting sleepy too. She had planned to force herself to stay awake until dawn, but unexpectedly, she fell asleep.
Alaric held Cordelia tightly and also fell asleep.
But his sleep was far from peaceful.
With Cordelia in his arms, his drunkenness had faded, his mind was completely clear, and his heart felt like countless ants were crawling inside, urging him to do something to Cordelia.
Since divorcing Cordelia, there had been no other women around him.
Now with Cordelia in his arms, he suddenly realized he hadn't had sex in three years.
His restless mood and the faint fragrance from Cordelia's body were like stimulants exciting every cell in his body, his burning blood seeming to rush straight to his lower abdomen.
Cordelia turned over in his arms, facing away from him. As she adjusted her sleeping position, her bottom pressed back against him, and Alaric's whole body suddenly stiffened.
In that instant, countless improper thoughts flashed through Alaric's mind.
He looked down at Cordelia still sleeping soundly in his arms, a hint of helplessness flashing in his eyes. He could only gently sniff her hair before getting up to take a cold shower.
The sound of running water made Cordelia's eyes snap open. Seeing the window outside had turned white, she paused.
Alaric had gotten out of bed at some point, and water sounds were coming from the bathroom.
She threw off the blanket, quickly straightened her clothes, and without any hesitation, strode out of Alaric's bedroom.
Robert had come to Crown Hill Estates early in the morning.
When he entered and saw Cordelia's shoes at the door, he knew she had stayed the night.
So when he saw the master bedroom door slightly open, Robert wisely didn't go up to disturb them. He planned to make breakfast for the two and then leave.
But unexpectedly, just as he finished making breakfast, Cordelia hurried out of Alaric's bedroom, quickly changed her shoes, and left.
She left in such a rush, almost like she was fleeing.
When Alaric came out of the bathroom, the person who had been sleeping soundly in bed was nowhere to be seen.
He froze for a moment, then quickly strode out of the bedroom to see Robert standing at the dining room doorway, looking toward the main door.
"She left?"
He asked in a low voice.
Robert came back to his senses and looked at Alaric.
Alaric was wearing a bathrobe, with water still dripping from his short hair.
"Yes."
Robert answered quietly, then forced an awkward smile. "Congratulations, Mr. Hughes."
Alaric's expression immediately turned cold.
He hadn't done anything last night and had endured quite uncomfortably.
Congratulations my ass.
He turned back to the bedroom with a cold face.
Robert looked at Alaric's dark expression and paused, somewhat confused.
What was going on?
Cordelia had already stayed the night, so why did Alaric still look so unsatisfied?
Robert didn't understand and couldn't figure it out.
Cordelia headed straight for the underground parking garage, but when she reached her car, she froze again.
She hadn't brought her car keys down, or even her phone.
She had left in such a rush, only thinking about getting away quickly, only thinking about not running into Alaric again, so she had forgotten her car keys and phone.
If she went back now, Alaric had probably already come out of the bathroom.
She paced by the car, took a deep breath, and finally decided to go back for her car keys and phone.
She entered the elevator and returned to the door. Just as she was about to knock, she thought that Alaric might be in the walk-in closet now.
He was very particular about his appearance, and since it had been less than five minutes since she went down and came back up, Alaric was very likely in the walk-in closet.
If she went in quietly, grabbed her phone and car keys, and left quickly, she could avoid running into him.
With this thought, Cordelia quickly entered the password, lightened her steps, and walked quickly to Alaric's bedroom.
She had left in such a hurry that she hadn't noticed Robert had already arrived at Crown Hill Estates.
Robert was now in the study. Seeing Cordelia sneaking back, he looked confused but still chose to be invisible, staying quietly in the study without going out to disturb them.
Cordelia entered Alaric's bedroom and indeed didn't see Alaric.
She walked over and picked up her phone, but after searching around, she couldn't find her car keys.
She got down on the floor to search and finally saw her car keys under the bed. She must have accidentally kicked them under there in last night's panic.
She lay on the floor reaching for the car keys, but her arm wasn't long enough to reach them.
When Alaric came out of the walk-in closet with a cold face, he saw that Cordelia, who had already left, had somehow returned and was lying by his bed, reaching under it for something.
His previously irritated mood immediately lightened.
He walked to Cordelia's side and crouched down.
"Need help?"
His voice was low, with a hint of pleasure in his tone.
Hearing his voice, Cordelia's body stiffened slightly. She stayed on the floor in the same position, not moving.
So embarrassing.
Seeing her motionless, Alaric chuckled softly.
"Let me help you."
His tone carried a touch of tenderness.
In those few seconds, Cordelia had already calmed herself down. She withdrew her hand and looked at Alaric.
"That would be great, thanks."
Her voice was polite, maintaining a faint smile to ease the awkwardness.
Alaric bent down, glanced at what was under the bed, and saw it was her car keys.
He smiled and reached in, easily retrieving the car keys.
Seeing he had gotten the car keys out, Cordelia reached out to take them.
"Thank you."
But Alaric gripped the car keys tightly in his hand, with no intention of handing them to Cordelia.
Cordelia's outstretched hand remained open in front of him.
Looking at her slender hand, remembering how it had massaged his abdomen last night, his mind immediately wandered.
"I'll drive you."
His voice had become much huskier.
Cordelia paused, then immediately refused. "No need, I can get back on my own."
Alaric had no intention of giving her the car keys and moved a step closer to her.
"You worked hard last night. Drowsy driving isn't safe. I'll take you back."
Cordelia pressed her lips together. "I slept very well last night. I'm in good spirits now, so it doesn't count as drowsy driving."
Alaric moved closer, his thin lips curving into a smile.
"Slept very well? Was it because I was by your side?"
Cordelia's eyes stiffened slightly. Looking at the smile on Alaric's face, she suddenly felt she had fallen into his verbal trap.
