Chapter 75 He doesn’t want you
Roger was worried after Karen left, since she hadn’t studied much for her exams but decided to work on a pile of documents until Karen returns when he heard a knock on the door.
He knew it couldn’t be Dahlia because they had the no knocking policy but looking at the time, it was an hour to his meeting with Ryan so he thought that perhaps, Ryan had decided to come earlier and replied lazily, “come in.”
A delivery girl walked in wearing a uniform and a red baseball cup but as soon as Roger heard her voice, he knew who she was.
“Delivery for Miss Karen…” she was saying when Roger cut in. “Misses, is the word. Tonia, what the fuck do you want here?”
Tonia removed the baseball cup, her long, blonde hair cascading down her back and ambled towards him. “Roger, can’t you see the length I’ve gone to see you? I had to take this job to deliver this item.”
Dropping the item on the table, Roger faintly guessed it was the phone his father talked about sending to Karen and smiled, signing the receipt on her behalf. “Thank you,” he said so formally, Tonia tasted bile in her mouth.
“Roger, I’ve honestly and always loved you from…”
“Enough, Tonia, you should be glad I’m in a good mood. Don’t you have more deliveries to do?” His voice was hard and all she saw in his eyes was hate.
Tonia was lost for words. This was a man she never valued before and going through this length to get his attention seemed odd.
When Loretta narrated the plan to her, she jumped into it without marking out a better plan. To her, Roger was just using Karen to get her attention.
“Roger, you fell for Karen’s trap. She…” she was saying when the door pushed open, she vehemently pressed herself against Roger who was about to open the parcel his father sent to Karen.
The parcel fell right back on the table and Tonia’s unexpected force sent him to his chair with her on top of him but before he could say Jack or even push her away, Karen stood at the entrance, her gaze dark.
Everything felt like a set up and Roger felt like he fell directly into Tonia’s trap.
“Kitten, it’s not what you think,” he was saying as he tried pushing Tonia away but the latter had grabbed onto a knob under his executive swivel chair, making it hard for him to get rid of her.
“Roger, you said you were using Karen to make me jealous and I already forgave you so no need to pretend anymore,” Tonia was saying in that alluring voice that used to annoy Karen so much.
Roger’s throat felt dry and her eyes moist. “No, Kitten, she came to deliver your phone. I swear it's not what you think," Roger tried to push Tonia away again, but this time he traced her hand holding the hook and broke her finger, causing a shrill scream to tear from her throat. "Ah, Roger, you are hurting me."
Karen's fingers balled into fists, and in fast short strides, she grabbed Tonia by the hair, throwing her against the wall with a force that sent Tonia tumbling to the ground.
Roger was amazed, but remembering his father's words that Karen was tougher than he thought, he began to understand that Karen had not only polished her cyber skills but also received the Dawson's self-defense training.
"How dare you show your face here," Karen asked through gritted teeth as Roger sat back in his chair with folded arms. With his wife in control of the situation, he would not intervene even if Karen kills Tonia.
Tonia couldn't tell which was more painful, her broken finger or being mercilessly tossed against the wall but her mission was still on point.
"Karen, Roger called me here. He doesn't want you," she swallowed her pain and said. Karen grabbed her by the collar, lifted her from the floor, and slapped her hard on the face. "Repeat what you just said," Karen dared her.
At first, she was heart broken when she saw the scene but she knew one thing and that was the fact that Roger would not lie. If he didn’t want her, he would just say it to her face.
Tonia was seeing red. Karen was not as fragile as she once thought, but if she could create a conflict between them, then her mission could also be accomplished.
"Roger doesn't want you, so what? Get the hell out of here," Tonia snarled, tasting a metallic fluid in her mouth. When Karen saw the blood in her mouth, she smirked and slapped her once more, sending a kick into her stomach.
"I've been meaning to do this for so long," Karen paused, flipping her hair behind her before kicking Tonia in the stomach again. "This is for taking my parents from me."
It was followed by another kick, hard enough to make Tonia groan and spit blood. "This is for messing with my food and causing problems for my eyes."
The pain coursing through Tonia made her feel like she was going to die. "Roger, please help me. You know I love you."
“This is for that fake pregnancy,” Karen kicked her again, Tonia was rolling on the floor, multiple pain searing through her body. “Roger please, I’m not joking. Stop the sham and let’s get married.”
Roger's teeth gritted together. "The only reason I've been soft is that I've been waiting for this moment."
He ambled close to Karen. "Dad wanted me to handle her, but I said no. I had no idea she was the reason for your eye problem, but I guess it's time to know the rest.
"Tonia felt helpless and afraid. Her tactics did not work on Karen as planned and now, she had rather unknowingly fallen into both Roger and Karen’s trap.
Roger’s cold voice rang in her ears as e spoke on the phone. “Dad, I think I’m ready for the video now.”
“Are you sure? Karen’s exams…” Giovanni wanted to refuse but Roger insisted, “Dad, Tonia delivered the phone you sent and I think it’s time we end this.”
