Chapter 56 Not sisters

Chapter 56 Not sisters
A chauffeur stepped out of a Rolls Royce Phantom and opened the door for Karen, while at the same time, Roger stepped out of his car and opened the door for her.

The switch was quick, and Roger waited for her car to leave before driving off. Karen wasn’t accustomed to such a lifestyle, and the only way out was to learn how to drive.

Now, that was number one on her plate after completing her exams. She opened the luxury handbag she admired a lot from the collection to remove her phone when she caught sight of a few things in the attached purse.

One was a black card, the other was Roger’s business card, showing his position and the direction to his office.

A smile stretched her lips. These were things Tonia would love, but Karen wasn’t even interested in them.

She dialed Wade’s number, planning to arrange to meet him halfway after she was done with school. He answered on the first ring.

“Mavis or Karen? I don’t know which one to use,” disappointment laced his voice, and Karen felt remorseful.

“Sorry, I didn’t get the chance to apologize. It’s Karen.”

“I’ll forgive you on one condition,” Wade replied, making her uneasy. “Excuse me?” She didn’t think their friendship had developed to a level where he could play such games with her, but Wade’s mind was at a different level.

“Don’t worry, Misses Dawson, I know my place,” he replied politely with a hint of bitterness. Karen’s smart brain told her he was hiding something, and since she needed her gifts, she decided to meet him.

“If you can meet me at the address I will send you in two hours, I can hear whatever conditions you have and kindly bring along the gifts I left in your car.”

Wade froze slightly, wanting to tell her something but kicked against it. “Alright, send the address.”

Karen sent the address of a coffee shop before arriving at her college. It had been months since she was last there, around the beginning of the semester.

Now it was nearing the end, and she made her way to the Dean’s office. Thankfully, not many people were around to see her.

The Dean rose from his seat to shake her hand when she arrived, stunning her as he had never done that before. “Miss Fletcher. I was expecting you.” Confusion clouded Karen as she spoke, "I came to verify..."

"Everything is in place, and your exams start on Wednesday," the dean interrupted eagerly, making her suspicious.

He was a man in his early fifties, good-looking, though almost balding.

Karen was expecting some kind of interrogation, but none was forthcoming. "Okay, then I’ll just look around and go."

Had she known that everything was in place, she might not have come. "May I know your relationship with the Dawsons?" the dean asked out of the blue. Karen turned around and asked him, "Why do you ask?"

The dean smiled, but it looked forced, as he never expected the current interrogation from no other person than his student.

"I was thinking you could put in a word for us concerning some donations," he smiled awkwardly. Karen went into deep thought.

Due to Giovanni getting in touch with her college to help with the deferment and Roger getting the timetable for her, the dean was trying to take advantage.

As much as she didn’t want to take advantage of the Dawsons, she also knew the donation request was a genuine one.

In a sense, she could make the donation herself on behalf of the Dawsons. "I..." she was about to say something when the door pushed open, and two ladies were dragged inside.

Karen’s teeth gritted together when their eyes met. "Karen," Tonia felt both angry and elated to see her, but that dress must have cost a fortune, and she knew Roger bought it for Karen.

She had window-shopped the Dawson’s clothing lines and accessories but never saw anything like what Karen was wearing, including the accessories.

Now her ugly duckling of a sister was the star of the day. It wasn’t in a sexy way but rather a classy and graceful one.

"Tonia, I’m surprised you are still here," Karen scoffed, a lecturer she knew spoke behind her.

"She won’t be for long."

Tonia’s accomplice was too stunned to say a word. Karen felt like even the elements were fighting for her. "May I know what she did this time?"

Tonia frowned but quickly forced a sweet smile. “Karen, I missed you so much. Are you back in school? Exams starts....”

“On Wednesday,” Karen ended for her, Tonia pursed her lips in regret as her accomplice regained herself and exclaimed, “Karen, did you rob a bank? Do you have any idea how much that handbag and accessories cost? I'm not sure about the attire because there's no brand.”

“Hey, you better behave,” the dean stepped in to prevent anyone from upsetting Karen. She was his hope for now. “Karen, your sister was caught with prepared answers to the exams on Wednesday. I'm sorry, but you can't help her.”

Karen smiled at the Dean. “Who said I wanted to help? I was just curious, and technically, we aren't sisters. Her parents disowned me, so you know who to call if you need my parents. Thank you,” she shrugged and brushed past them.

The dean was impressed, but as for Tonia and her accomplice, their mouths refused to close. “What happened to your shy sister? This one seems to have undergone not only a body and hair transformation but also an attitude and brain transplant,” Tonia’s accomplice gawked at the retreating figure.

“I will be thinking of how to get out of the cheating mess,” the dean reminded her, she went quiet.

Karen arrived at the coffee shop to meet Wade, eager to beat time, and luckily, he was already there.

“I've been waiting for over thirty minutes,” he informed her. Karen smiled and replied confidently, “Your coming early doesn't make me late.”

She removed her sunglasses and pinned them at the neck of her dress before dropping her handbag behind her and taking a seat.

Wade was impressed by her sleek movements, but before he could compliment her, she went straight to the point after glancing at her limited-edition wristwatch. “I have ten minutes to spare, so out with it.”
