Chapter 44 You are the only one I see
Roger's gaze swept through the ladies' restroom until he caught sight of the person he was looking for. A sigh of relief escaped him when he saw her standing leisurely, her lips pursed together.
She was even more stunning than he had imagined without her eyeglasses. "Kitten, are you alright?" He hastened to her side and began to scrutinize her carefully for any injuries.
From the moment he decided to reveal his identity, she was the only woman who mattered to him, aside from his family and with her, there was no one else.
Karen was stunned, unable to get upset with him calling her kitten. Did Roger not see Tonia? She was prepared to see him crouch down and comfort Tonia, maybe even carry her in his arms.
Perhaps he had forgotten, so Karen decided to draw his attention to the issue at hand.
"I'm not the injured one, in case you haven't noticed," she shrugged, but Roger glanced around before his eyes focused on her again. "You are the only one I see," his voice was tender, filled with care and a hint of affection.
Karen was not used to this. Only Tonia had experienced this side of Roger in the past, which she had always rejected. "Do you not see your beloved Tonia on the floor?" She asked directly, recalling how the name Tonia always triggered him.
She waited, determined to see that anger flare up as before, but nothing happened.
It was as if she hadn't even mentioned the name. What had happened between those two in her absence? Wasn't her leaving supposed to bring them together to make the divorce easier for her?
Tonia burst into tears again, making sure her injured leg was visible, already swelling with redness around it. Roger only leaned closer to Karen, his gaze tender.
"Kitten, you are the only woman I see. The only voice I hear." Something stirred inside her, and she wanted to push him away, but the shock on Tonia's face made her smile.
However, she thought of a way to upset Roger, to provoke him into saying something that would make it easier for her to proceed with the divorce.
“Well, these heels are killing me," she pouted, wondering if he would keep up with this doting attitude but to her surprise, Roger crouched down in front of her, in shining elegance.
That tailored tuxedo made him so attractive, she couldn’t believe he was doing this. His fingers brushed her skin, causing that familiar shiver to cruise down her spine as he carefully removed her shoes.
Karen’s mouth was open from shock the whole time as he not only removed her stilettos but also massaged her little feet carefully. "You don’t have to wear what doesn’t make you comfortable. You are beautiful even without it."
Karen’s mouth opened, and she swallowed a lump in her throat. This was getting interesting, but her mind was in a battle. Did Roger just ignore Tonia for her?
Her body was flawlessly lifted from the ground into his safe arms after removing her shoes, Tonia went pale. She was the injured one and yet, she was neglected like some invisible item.
Roger never even liked Karen, so why was he being nice to her? "Roger, I made a promise to you that if she wasn’t pregnant, I’ll take you. Do you not care that she did this to me?"
She sounded teary and pathetic, but when Roger’s gaze landed on her, it turned cold, and his voice turned to ice. "Don’t pretend, Tonia. I don’t waste my time on idiots."
There would have been room for her to pretend if his identity wasn’t revealed, but now, he belonged to the one who saw through his being a bodyguard and fell in love with him at first sight.
Roger was ashamed to admit that he didn’t love Karen by then, but neither was he ever irritated by her. Now, she was his addiction.
Tonia had rejected him when he made mention of that promise, making a mockery of him because she thought he was poor. Now she wanted to rip where she had not sown, not a chance.
Karen wagged her tongue as she snuggled closer to Roger, taking in his scent as her arms wrapped around his neck. "You smell better than before. Did you change your perfume?"
Roger smiled, his heart warm. He was afraid she was going to reject him, so this was a great relief. "Tell you what, it’s up to you to choose the perfume you want me to use."
Karen giggled, feeling her cheeks blushing, but her shoes were on the floor, and Roger was already close to opening the door. "Roger, my shoes," she wanted to pick them, but Roger refused.
"You have more shoes than you can wear. Leave this for those who need them." Karen had more shoes than she could wear? She wasn’t materialistic, and everything she wore had been purchased by Van. She couldn’t leave them there.
“Roger, Van gave them to me as gifts,” she revealed. Tonia wondered who she meant by Van until Roger asked, “You mean my dad? Well, all the more reason why you don’t have to wear them anymore.”
He had different varieties of shoes for her and couldn’t accept her wearing anything he didn’t purchase.
Tonia was shocked. Those choose could cost nothing less that hundred thousand dollars and Roger did not care about them. Well, she could use them as compensation for the injure Karen caused her.
“Karen, are you alright?” Giovanni’s voice sounded as they reached the door.
When the woman screamed about someone needing help, he never expected it to be Karen, and disappointment laced his voice until he heard Tonia’s voice from inside.
“Don Gio, please help me. Karen injured my ankle but is playing the victim.”
Tonia was not used to being as neglected as she was today, needing to steal the spotlight from Karen like always…
