Chapter 105 Do you hate them?
Delanie stiffened slightly but soon relaxed. “My life is boring. I never knew my parents, grew up with older relatives who died along the way.”
She knew she would have to forge documents later to match her fake identity, but Wade had a sorrowful look on his face as he sipped his wine.
“I wish I didn’t know my parents,” he said with a pained look. Delanie was disturbed. “Excuse me?”
She would never wish that she hadn’t seen or met her parents. In fact, she was grateful to them with each passing day. Wade’s expression changed, as if waking up from a trance.
“Forget it. Let’s talk about more important things.”
Delanie could never. He opened a door and she wasn’t going to let him close it without seeing what was inside. “No, I want to know more about you,” she insisted. Wade stared at her. “There are things I’ve never told anyone, except Chad.”
Disappointment laced Delanie’s tone, resigning from pushing for it. “I understand if you don’t want to tell me.”
A chuckle escaped Wade as he poured both of them another glass of wine. There was something about Delanie he was determined to uncover.
It was as if his very life depended on hers, and he could tell her anything. The attraction he felt for her was unique. “I was thinking of making an exception for as long as you can keep it a secret.”
“Okay,” a smile spread across Delanie’s lips as she took and sipped the wine. Wade began to tell her about the ecstasy of his life.
“My real parents died in a car crash, and my grandparents, aunt, and uncle were killed right in front of me.”
“That’s cruel,” Delanie exclaimed. Wade smiled sadly. “They deserved it, but my grandparents told me my parents' death wasn’t just an accident. They would have ended up in jail anyway.”
Delanie sympathized with him. His childhood didn’t seem like the perfect one she had. Her parents were strict but loving. They wouldn’t tolerate nonsense but were always there.
Yes, they were ruthless but only to those who deserved it. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s alright. I was brainwashed by them, doing a lot of silly stuff, but growing up, I used my new adopted parents’ resources and connections to dig into the matter, and I realized that all my family deserved what they got.”
Delanie didn’t expect to hear something like this, but at this point, she wanted to know everything. “What did you find out? And where are your first adoptive parents?”
“My first adoptive parents died a week after adopting me, so everyone thought I was cursed until my second adoptive parents came along. They rule the mafia in Mexico but showed me love I never experienced. They taught me many things, including how to be a man.”
Delanie was glad to see a turning point in his life. Wade did not seem as bad as Roger and her father made him seem, and she was glad she took the risk to see him. “I’m glad to hear that. And your family?”
Bitterness spread across Wade’s face, but he conquered it by sipping another glass of wine. “They crossed the Dawsons,” he revealed. Delanie paled. Was this the reason why Roger was against her being with Wade?
“I hope I’m not asking too much, but…”
“No. I just feel comfortable sharing that part of me with you, aside from Chad,” Wade smiled at her, and warmth spread through her heart. The way he looked at her assured her that everything was going to be fine.
“Then I’m honored,” Delanie said, feeling guilty for keeping her identity hidden.
“I found out that my grandparents abused Don Gio’s wife, Donner Molly when she was married to my dad.”
Delanie gulped down a whole glass of wine as the cold room suddenly felt hot. “Molly is your mother?” She couldn’t believe this was going to be another sibling story.
She was beginning to like Wade for real, and yet… “Chill,” Wade smiled. Don Gio and Donner Molly were famous figures, so it never made him suspicious that Delanie knew them.
“Donner Molly would have been my stepmother. My mother was the other woman my dad cheated on Molly with. They had me before he married Molly, and my mother was her sister.”
“Gross,” Delanie frowned, wondering if they were cousins, but Wade explained further.
“My mother was adopted anyway, and all her life, she tried to take everything from Donner Molly. I mean, she succeeded, but then Don Gio came along and helped Molly to take back everything, including her fame. That man destroyed my family.”
His hand holding the glass tightened, and Delanie could see his veins through his skin. “You should see how he battered my grandparents, aunt, and uncle.”
Delanie was finding it hard to breathe, gulping down another glass of wine. No wonder her parents and Roger didn’t want her close to Wade. She had to find a way to escape. “So, do you hate them?”
