Chapter 100 A change of plan
“Will you answer my question, or should I dock your pay?" Roger asked impatiently.
The driver replied, "I heard them talking about going to a club." Roger fumed with anger, knowing exactly what Delanie was up to. The only club she would go to was the one owned by Wade. Fortunately, he didn't have to wait long before Karen arrived.
"I'm going to get a lot of rest this weekend," she said as soon as she entered. But for the first time, Roger's attention wasn't on her.
"Hey, what's going on?" Concern laced her voice as Roger turned to face her, looking anxious.
"It's Lani. She went to Wade’s club with Oriana. I’ve been calling, but none of them are picking up," Roger explained. For a strong man to break down like this only proved how much he loved his sister.
"So, what's the plan?" Karen asked, ready to forgo her plans to rest and help him in any way she could but Roger observed her keenly.
"You look tired, so I'll take you home first, then I'll go to the club to get them home," he replied. Karen knew Roger was being driven by his emotions. This was something he only did when Delanie was involved.
"Won’t your presence ruin her disguise? The last time I checked, Dawson's identity must not be revealed until marriage, and your rescuing her would immediately expose it," Karen pointed out Roger was drowned with emotions.
"Damn, I wasn't thinking," he admitted, grateful to have her by his side. "So what do you suggest?"
"I believe you have some of the bodyguards in the shadows. Why not use them?" Karen suggested. Roger went into deep thought.
The Dawson's bodyguards, just like him, would be connected to them like a thread.
"If their identities are investigated, it would still be linked to the Dawsons," Roger realized. Karen took a deep breath. "Well, let’s not sit here and do nothing. Drive to the club, and let’s disguise ourselves. We should find a way to blend in, right?"
She remembered how Giovanni disguised himself the day he took her to that club and Roger agreed with her plan.
Disguise was easy-peasy, something they did often. "You are right, and damn!" Roger cursed as he reversed the car. What's the matter?" Karen asked worriedly, quickly buckling her seat belt. Roger cursed himself internally for forgetting to do so for her.
"I'm sorry, Lani ruined everything."
A frown appeared on Karen's face as confusion brewed in her mind. "Ruined what?"
"Look at the back seat," Roger said as he sped down the asphalt road. Karen's brows raised when she saw the huge box with the red ribbons.
Unbuckling her seat belt, she ducked and picked up the box before buckling herself again. Her eyes sparkled at first but soon turned moist when she saw the red dress.
"I thought you never liked me wearing these colors."
Roger nodded painfully. "It was meant to be just the two of us, so I figured it was okay. I wanted to take you somewhere special, and we could move from there to your graduation tomorrow," he explained. Karen's eyes turned moist.
She had completely forgotten about the graduation because she hadn't been in school most of the time and lacked friends too. "You remembered it all."
"Everything about you is my priority, but now…" Roger's lips pursed with pain. However, Karen was looking at the bright side.
"Your parents were always there for you, sacrificing everything for you. We are married and will remain together until death do us part, so I don't care how many dates are ruined. We are still together, and that is all that matters."
Her words warmed his heart, and a smile spread across his face. "I love you, Kitten."
"Me too, Stallion, but I'm gonna keep this gorgeous dress and its accessories for another date," she shrugged.
The atmosphere turned warm, and Roger visibly relaxed until they reached the club's car park.
"I think you usually keep some disguise stuff, right?" Karen asked. Roger nodded and began to reach for them when Karen asked again,
"Roger, why can't Delanie date Wade? I mean, he's not a bad person from what I've learned."
Roger froze instantly, and their eyes met, pain evident in his. "It's a long story, but there's no time."
As Roger began to glue a mustache on his face, Karen pulled at the wig for him.
"I can't wait to see you in this, but after everything is over, I want to know everything about you and Wade."
She was beginning to guess that Roger and Wade must have known each other way back. Then she remembered Wade’s reaction when he saw Roger’s profile on the phone that day.
“How do I look?” Roger asked. Karen giggled for thirty seconds before giving him a thumbs up. The Dawsons were so weird, and she loved it. “Now you look like a ruthless mafia don,” she giggled some more. Roger smiled and put on his photochromic eye lens.
“If you accompany me, someone might connect the dots,” he pointed out, Karen nodded in agreement, but just as he was about to step out of his car, an Aston Martin Vantage pulled over right beside his car, and two men stepped out of it.
One of them was extremely familiar, and Karen was the first to speak. “Is that Wade?”
Karen could feel Roger’s anger burning like wildfire and suggested after a little thought, “I think we need a change of plan.” She wasn’t ready to miss out on all the fun.
