Chapter 368 Appointment
Chapter 368 Appointment
In the end, Roy picked up his phone and called Alexander.
After hearing his report, Alexander went silent for a long time.
Just as Roy expected, Alexander said in a low voice, "Ask Flora what she thinks. If she's willing, keep investigating."
Roy could only smile bitterly. Flora had the exact same temper as Mr. FitzRoy - how could she possibly back down now?
But this was Flora's choice. No matter how worried he was, he could only do as Mr. FitzRoy instructed.
After passing Mr. FitzRoy's words to Flora exactly as they were, Roy anxiously continued waiting for news from Flora's end.
That evening, Arabella video called Alexander. Alexander had said from the start that he'd be back the next day, but several days had passed and he still hadn't returned. Arabella instinctively felt uneasy.
She wanted to ask him about it, but was afraid of putting pressure on him. She believed Alexander was doing everything he could to save Philip. He wouldn't brush her off - she trusted him.
The words rolled around on her tongue a few times before she swallowed them back down. Arabella listened as Alexander asked if the baby in her belly was being good, asked if she missed him, and couldn't help but smile.
At the end of the video call, Alexander said, "I'll be home tomorrow night. We'll talk about everything in detail when I get back. Arabella, don't worry. I won't let the worst happen."
Arabella nodded, but her heart grew anxious because of his words. Alexander never said unnecessary things, yet today he deliberately mentioned this... What was the worst that could happen?
She told Alexander about going to Seaside City with Becky this weekend.
The weekend was the day after tomorrow - the second day after Alexander's return.
Alexander didn't try to stop her, just said, "I'll see if I have time. If I do, I'll go with you. If not, I'll have Moris go with you."
He didn't mention his concerns at all. Right now, Anthony's forces were showing signs of rising. Both she and Becky were his weak spots. If the other side wanted to strike at him, they would definitely go after the people closest to him that he cared about most.
He didn't want Arabella to worry along with him, and he wouldn't take away Becky's right to pursue her interests because of this.
He would make complete preparations and give them the freest boundaries possible.
He'd make sure that even if they weren't in Majestic City, they'd be safe and sound.
That's his responsibility as a man.
Putting his phone aside, Alexander asked Moris, "Still no reply from them?"
After receiving the anonymous email threatening to kill Philip if he didn't let Anthony go, he had people continue searching for Philip's whereabouts while having Moris pretend to agree to their terms on the surface and act according to the situation.
The other side later sent another email with a video of Philip beaten bloody, with text that read: [Stop being clever. Your actions have deeply offended me. If you don't stop now, he'll have no way out but death!]
Alexander had no choice but to stop all rescue operations for Philip and focus all his attention on whoever was sending the emails.
At the time, he'd replied agreeing to their conditions.
But twenty-four hours had passed with no response.
Even someone as powerful as Alexander felt like he was sitting on pins and needles.
He didn't even know how he'd explain things to Arabella when he returned home tomorrow.
If Arabella saw the news that Philip had been severely beaten, she would definitely be very upset.
But he'd already been in Finland too long and couldn't stay any longer.
If by the time he left tomorrow the other side still hadn't made a move, he could only leave things here to his subordinates. He'd even have to take Moris back with him.
At that point, Philip's survival rate would drop another ten percent.
Moris had been watching the computer the whole time. He shook his head gently and sighed, "Nothing. I'm worried they might have already killed Philip."
Alexander remained silent.
Just then, the computer dinged - a new email had arrived.
Moris immediately opened it.
"Mr. FitzRoy, it's an anonymous email from them!"
Alexander immediately strode over.
On the screen were just a few short lines.
[Mr. FitzRoy, we're both smart people, so let's not waste each other's time, don't you think? If you're willing to meet with me honestly, please come alone to this location at midnight tonight. Regarding trading Philip for Anthony's freedom, I'd like to discuss it with you in person.]
Moris slammed the laptop shut and looked at Alexander seriously. "Mr. FitzRoy, you can't go to this meeting. They definitely don't have good intentions. What if something dangerous happens if you go alone?"
Alexander frowned. "This is the only chance - whether it's to save Philip or figure out who's behind Anthony, this is the only opportunity."
He wasn't a reckless person. After carefully weighing the pros and cons, he said to Moris, "Get ready. I'm going."
Moris kept shaking his head. "No, Mr. FitzRoy, I can't watch you take this risk. Let me go instead!"
Alexander laughed at this and punched his shoulder. "If you went, that would really be suicide. Don't worry, I won't die. They don't dare kill me. I hold too much in my hands. If they made a move against me, without me lifting a finger, many forces would go after them. My life is much more valuable than you think."
Moris didn't quite understand, but seeing Mr. FitzRoy's calm and confident manner, he asked doubtfully, "Should I at least have people follow at a distance?"
"No need."
Alexander said in a low voice, "Make some preparations in advance, but don't have people follow. The other side values Anthony's life very much. For Anthony's sake, they won't act rashly either."
Moris could only nod and hurried off to make urgent preparations.
It had to be said, Alexander was right on the money.
After all, he was someone who had fought his way through bloody storms. He had Stephen and Anthony's thoughts figured out completely.
At that moment, in a guesthouse in Finland, Stephen was video calling Anthony and Rachel.
Anthony couldn't leave the estate, so this trip, Stephen had to make it himself.
Stephen said, "Tonight I'll meet with Alexander face to face. If he's willing to show mercy, I'll release Philip. Trading Philip's dog life for your safety is worth it."
Anthony frowned and asked, "Father, he's coming to the meeting alone, so why not just..."
He made a throat-slitting gesture.
Stephen looked at him with some dissatisfaction. "You're still too green. Alexander wouldn't even consider something like that. If he did, he wouldn't have agreed to meet with me."
Anthony hated when Stephen said he wasn't as good as Alexander. His face darkened and he said nothing.
But Stephen laughed. "What, you're not convinced? Let me tell you - if Alexander died in Finland, you and Rachel wouldn't survive either. Not just you two, even I might be dragged into danger. Do you really think he got to where he is today just with the FitzRoy Group?
How naive. Behind him, in the underworld, the legitimate world, and everything in between, there are forces even I don't dare openly cross, let alone you. Compared to him, you're like the sun in the sky versus mud on the ground. Honestly, I'm not at all surprised you lost to him."
Anthony's face had turned ugly and dark.
Stephen smiled unconcernedly. "You still have a lot to learn. With the complex network of forces behind Alexander, not provoking him and negotiating peacefully is the best choice."
He just didn't know if Philip as a bargaining chip would be enough.
