Chapter 349 Open Discussion
Chapter 349 Open Discussion
But even if they didn't believe it, they could only swallow this bitter pill.
Who told them not to give Alexander a heads-up before coming back?
Neil and Robert, who had originally wanted to show off in front of Alexander using Chloe's authority, now both looked rather embarrassed.
It was Chloe who spoke up, "Roy, thanks for your hard work."
Roy replied respectfully, "Just doing my job."
"You said Alex prepared a banquet, so let's head to the hotel first." Chloe made the decision.
Roy bowed slightly, "This way, please."
Just to be safe, he had brought two minivans. Chloe and Robert's family of three rode in the first vehicle, while Roy rode with Neil's family of three in the second one.
In the first vehicle, Robert wanted to test Chloe's views on dividing the family assets, so he deliberately said in a worried tone, "Mother, Neil has a temper and is very straightforward. I wonder if he'll get into it with Alex about dividing the assets once we get to the hotel."
Chloe sat beside him with her eyes slightly closed, saying nothing, as if she hadn't heard anything.
Robert was a bit unhappy. Serena gave him a look, signaling him to stay calm.
After all, Neil was the spearhead. Whether this thrust would be effective or not, they'd know soon enough.
If it worked, their family could benefit too. If it didn't, they'd think of another way.
Annoying Chloe at this moment wouldn't be a smart choice.
Robert understood this well enough. He pressed his lips together and said nothing more.
Iris continued playing her role as the obedient granddaughter, but since Chloe was indifferent to her, she found it boring. She'd show concern occasionally, but mostly kept her head down playing with her phone.
In the second vehicle, as soon as Roy got in, Neil said condescendingly, "Roy, from what you're saying, you arranged all the hotels for our group? What hotel did you book? My son Craven is used to living well abroad - if it's not a presidential suite at a five-star hotel, he won't be comfortable."
Roy smiled politely, "Mr. Neil FitzRoy, we booked regular suites at the Sheraton. Mr. FitzRoy has already considered that you might be used to luxury and might not be comfortable in regular suites, so he spoke with the front desk in advance. You can upgrade your rooms anytime - just pay the difference at the front desk."
Neil's expression changed immediately upon hearing this. He glared at Roy, "What do you mean? We came all this way back to see Alex, and he won't even pay for the hotel? Or are you as his assistant pocketing the money?"
Nason had received Alexander's instructions beforehand - except for Chloe, he didn't need to give face to anyone, so he had some confidence facing Neil now. "Sorry, this is how Mr. FitzRoy arranged it. Company reimbursements have their rules. I hope you understand."
Neil felt like he was about to explode with frustration. Understand what?
An uncle coming to his nephew's territory, and he won't even spring for a presidential suite!
"Hmph!" He snorted coldly, "If word got out, wouldn't that be embarrassing?"
Roy smiled. "Mr. FitzRoy said you all have your own businesses, so he definitely doesn't need to worry about suite upgrades for you."
That one sentence left Neil speechless.
Even if he had complaints, he couldn't make an issue of this anymore.
His wife, Magnolia, glanced at him and shook her head silently.
They hadn't even met the real enemy yet - why waste words with a small fry?
They came for the family assets. A few presidential suites - what was there to care about?
Neil pressed his lips together, too irritated to say another word.
Meanwhile, Craven sat in the back playing with his phone the whole time. He wasn't worried at all. As the former family heir, he still had quite a bit of property that his grandfather had given him before passing. With the foundation his grandfather had built for him, even if Alexander was unwilling, he'd have to give him some of the assets in this division. He wouldn't lose out either way.
The group, in two vehicles, each with their own thoughts, soon arrived at the hotel.
Alexander and Arabella had already arrived.
In the huge private dining room, the round table covered with white tablecloth was enormous - not just enough for their group, but could seat twice as many people.
Alexander, holding Arabella's hand, first walked up to Chloe and said respectfully, "Grandma, was the journey tiring? Sit down and rest."
Arabella also called out, "Grandma."
Seeing Arabella inexplicably lifted Chloe's mood. She held her hand, gently stroking it, and smiled, "I'm not tired. Arabella, you've had it hard. Pregnancy isn't easy, is it?"
Arabella smiled obediently, "It's okay."
Chloe looked at her disapprovingly, "I've told you, as a woman you can't be so understanding. When you should be demanding, be demanding. Pregnancy is never easy for women, especially since you're carrying twins. If you feel uncomfortable, make Alex deal with it. He should. You know? If he doesn't listen to you, tell me and I'll set him straight."
Arabella couldn't help but laugh, feeling sorry for Alexander. She quickly spoke up for him, "Grandma, Alex really treats me well."
Alexander beside her just looked at her with tender eyes and smiled, not defending himself to Chloe at all.
Seeing the undeniable love between them, Chloe's smile deepened.
She knew it - spending every day together, how could feelings not develop?
Alexander helped Chloe sit down in the main seat.
Arabella actually felt a bit uncomfortable. After exchanging pleasantries with Chloe, it should be time to greet Alexander's two uncles.
But Alexander showed no intention of greeting them at all, which left her feeling awkward. She thought that no matter how bad the relationship, they should at least be civil on the surface, right?
Was Alex being too arrogant?
While she was feeling uneasy, she heard Neil speak up unhappily, "Alex, we came all this way back, and you went to the wrong airport and couldn't pick us up yourself - fine, we'll let that go. But now you don't even apologize, and you're acting like Neil and I don't exist. What, do you have some grudge against us?"
As soon as he said this, the atmosphere in the private room immediately turned cold.
Everyone could see Neil was deliberately making things difficult, and Alexander had indeed been rude.
Even Arabella looked nervously at Alexander.
But Alexander calmly helped Arabella sit down first, then looked at Neil and said flatly, "You sent people to harm my wife and tried to destroy the children in her belly. With this grudge of trying to kill my wife and children, the fact that I can still let you sit in this private room is already more than generous."
Neil and Robert's expressions both changed.
Including Chloe, everyone looked at Alexander in shock.
Some things, whatever you do privately, once it's done, it's done. The bigger the family, the more dirty secrets there are, but everyone only cares about surface harmony. As long as no one catches you red-handed, no one will bring these things up openly.
The fact that they had sent people to try to kill the children in Arabella's belly - not only did Arabella not know about it, even Chloe hadn't expected it.
Not to mention Robert and Neil, who thought they had acted secretly without anyone knowing.
And Iris's face suddenly turned deathly pale. The reason was simple - Cherry was the one who had harmed Arabella, and if Cherry had been found, then she should have been exposed too.
She could stab people in the back, but she didn't have the courage to face Alexander's anger head-on.
Not just her - Neil and Robert, the two brothers, had even less courage.
They were like hyenas plotting together in the shadows - they could sneak up and bite a tiger when it wasn't paying attention, but face the tiger head-on? They were scared to death.
Neil, being more hot-tempered, said somewhat unhappily, "Alex, you're putting a huge accusation on Neil and me right off the bat. We would never do such things. You're throwing dirty water on us - do you have evidence? Don't make accusations without proof!"
Alexander's lips curved slightly, his gaze cold as he looked over, "You should be glad I don't have evidence, or you wouldn't be sitting in front of me."
The implication was clear - once he got evidence, neither Neil nor Robert, not even Craven and Iris, would escape.
These words made his position crystal clear.
Whatever these two families wanted, he wouldn't give them an inch.
Robert and Neil's expressions were both ugly. Before coming, they had prepared themselves - this nephew had never been easy to deal with, and they were ready for a long battle.
But they never expected that at the first meeting, Alexander would put their intentions on the table and even reveal his bottom line.
Both families felt heavy-hearted and resentful.
Robert coughed, deliberately trying to ease the tension, "Alex, you must have some misunderstanding about us. We can explain these things later. Alex, we would never do anything harmful to you - I can guarantee that. How about we eat first? Mom has been traveling all day, she should rest."
Chloe, who had been sitting with a stern face saying nothing, now sighed lightly and spoke, "Let's eat first. A family meeting and immediately at each other's throats - what does that look like?"
Since Chloe had spoken, even Alexander had to give her face. So he sat down with Arabella, ignoring his two uncles' families, focusing only on taking care of Arabella.
While eating, he said flatly, "Arabella is my wife, and the children in her belly are my life. Those who dared to touch her before - except for one we haven't caught yet - are either dead or in prison. If you want to try, go ahead, but my people don't know how to hold back. If things get ugly, don't blame me."
The warning and threat were crystal clear.
Neil and Robert's expressions grew even uglier.
Chloe looked up and glared at Alexander, saying irritably, "Eat!"
This boy - loving his wife is good, but does he have to be so impatient?
Can't even wait through one meal!
