Chapter 109: Actually, You’re a Big Jerk
Now that he understood what was going on, Anthony raised his hand and slapped Rihanna hard across the face.
"You're acting like a mad dog, biting whoever gets close. If you want to trash-talk me and Poppy, I'll beat that filthy mouth of yours shut."
"Ah, Anthony, you bastard! How dare you hit me — you're dead today!"
Anthony had always hated this kind of threat.
Always pointing fingers at people and running their mouth — "I won't let you off," "you're dead," all that nonsense.
He slapped her several more times across the face, leaving her nose bloody and her face swollen, until she screamed herself hoarse.
At that moment, the other visitors who had come to view the property cried out in shock, and some began calling Anthony out.
"That guy — how can he be so violent? One wrong word and he just starts hitting people?"
"Exactly. Where are the security guards? Why hasn't anyone stopped this maniac?"
The shouts snapped Rihanna back to her senses, and she started screaming at the top of her lungs.
"Security! Come restrain this violent criminal right now!"
But after all that screaming, no security guard showed up. That caught Rihanna completely off guard.
Then, just at that moment, the sound of rapid footsteps came from the other end of the hallway.
Before anyone appeared, a man's voice rang out — arrogant and cold.
"What's going on? I just gathered all the security staff for a safety meeting, and someone's already causing trouble out here? Bold move."
Hearing that voice, Rihanna couldn't hide her relief.
Seconds later, a heavyset man in his fifties came charging around the corner of the hallway, leading six or seven security guards, all looking ready for a fight.
Some of the visitors recognized the man right away and started whispering.
"That cocky guy is done for now. Ha — that's the sales manager, the one in charge of this whole place — Arman."
"Yeah, I've heard of him. Word is he's not someone to mess with. He's tight with bosses from several gangs."
The two visitors exchanged knowing looks and glanced over at Anthony.
As far as they were concerned, this castoff from the Bruce family was in serious trouble now.
Everyone knew Arman was outrageously arrogant on a normal day, and he had deep ties to the criminal underworld...
Hearing the people around her talk, Rihanna — battered and bruised — lifted her chin with a smug look on her face.
This was the man she had behind her.
After graduating, Rihanna had come to work at this sales office, where Arman had taken notice of her and started keeping her as his mistress.
She had been wondering just moments ago where all the security guards had gone.
She never expected they'd all been pulled into a meeting in the manager's office.
That made her feel even more wronged.
She stepped forward and grabbed Arman's arm. She almost called him "husband" out of habit, but caught herself — they were in public, not in the bedroom.
She quickly said, "Manager."
"This idiot slapped me. I strongly suspect the money they have is stolen, but they refused to cooperate with any verification and just attacked me. Manager, you have to stand up for me here."
"What? Is that so?"
Arman crossed his arms, his expression cold and sharp. Following the direction Rihanna pointed, he fixed his icy stare on Anthony.
He saw a young man in casual clothes.
"Manager, you see him? That's Anthony — he used to be an adopted son of the Bruce family, but they threw him out. He just got out of prison after three years inside. Given all that, where would he get the money to give someone twenty million? But that's exactly what he gave this girl."
As Rihanna said all this, she was seething with resentment, her eyes turning red.
She had become Arman's mistress, but over the years, this stingy man had barely spent a dime on her. Whenever he wanted her, he'd call her over and dismiss her just as easily.
That was exactly why, the moment she heard Anthony had given Poppy twenty million, she felt a sharp sting of jealousy.
She knew Poppy's situation well — the girl had just been quietly crushing on Anthony. And yet somehow she'd ended up with twenty million, just like that.
If she had twenty million herself, why would she be stuck working at this sales office, putting up with everything, letting this man who looked like a fat pig do whatever he wanted with her?
It was pure jealousy that had made Rihanna go after Poppy in the first place.
She hadn't expected Anthony to show up and slap her more than a dozen times.
That made her feel even more bitter and furious.
After hearing his kept woman explain what had happened, and seeing Rihanna's face swollen and bruised, Arman's anger flared.
"Was it you who hit my staff member?"
At the question, Anthony glanced over at the heavyset man who had just arrived.
From the comments of the people nearby, he already knew who this man was.
But right now, Anthony was too angry to care whether the guy was some kind of manager or not.
Anthony narrowed his eyes. "Your staff member has no class. Doesn't she deserve it?"
"What? You dare say my staff member has no class?"
Arman's expression hardened, and he let out a cold snort.
"What — you still won't admit it?"
"I already said it — that twenty million is money I gave to this young woman. Your staff member kept harassing us for no reason, insisting the money was suspicious."
"If you ask me, slapping her was letting her off easy. A woman like that deserves to have her mouth shut for good."
Beside him, Rihanna let out a shriek of rage.
"Anthony, how dare you call me that!"
Anthony smiled. "Oh, sorry — I misspoke. What I meant to say is, you're a massive one."
"Ahhhh!"
The humiliation sent Rihanna into a shaking, convulsing rage.
She hadn't expected Anthony to keep acting this brazen even with the manager standing right there.
Arman was furious too. He stared at Anthony with cold, dead eyes — like he was already looking at a corpse.
"Kid, you've got a lot of nerve. Does your family know you act like this?"
Anthony shrugged, unbothered.
"Are you deaf? Didn't your staff member just tell you who I am?"
The corner of Arman's mouth twitched.
He remembered now — Rihanna had already told him this young man's story. A castoff from the Bruce family. Three years in prison. Just got out.
Arman's tone turned even colder.
"So that's who's been acting so tough. Turns out you're a criminal."
"You hit one of my staff today. This isn't over."
Seeing Rihanna's face swollen and bruised had genuinely upset Arman — after all, this girl was his favorite companion in bed, always willing and eager to please.
And even setting that aside, with his personality, he never let anyone get away with hitting his staff.
But this guy had gone and hit his own personal bed partner.
That made it personal.
